apathy for events?

Second try at posting today after my wifi went AWOL this morning!

Tiggerr - I live the other side of the pond so to speak and hadn't heard about events in your city but do hope you are ok - it sounds terrifying and I hope all will be calm soon and are thinking of you.

Hello Shealie! I did pop by your farm earlier today too. The break has been good and I am back playing slowing and posting too. Lots seems to have gone on today on the forum (not aware of what the DD prob was and won't ask just in case ;)) I thought it was just me going AWOL but it's reassuring (perhaps not quite the right word) that I am not the only one and for the same/similar reasons too. I did feel awful for leaving my neighbours without lovely things to buy but will get back there gradually.

I totally agree with comments about squeezing money out of players- my thoughts after a week or so of the town was that the only way I can keep up with my townies was to buy diamonds to hire Tom - to me, it was the only way I could feed my demanding fish and sugar hungry townies. My barn was no where big enough and there were some items gathering dust on them. I'm happy to buy them occasionally but all the time just to progress - no way! I could afford it, but I would have to sacrifice something else I enjoy. Looking at my neighbours farms and shops, I'm not the only one who has gone away.

I do hope SC do take note- we are happy to play a game which does need some money to expand production slots but all the time, no. I would rather buy a book, tootle down to a coffee shop and read. Please sort out the bot farms (the ones with no machines, sequentially numbered), the ones who progress very fast and seem to have a bottomless diamond pit and please get this game back to the lovely one it was.

Shealie, I'm with you I hope they are up to something, but it could be too late for me too.

That's because it isn't about what it is supposed to be about, Tigg. It morphed into something else. The shooting was an excuse to be angry of course -- but the looting is not about the shooting or about anger. It's about the worst in us when the rules don't apply to our behavior anymore. It's not rational, but it is very human :( When the flames die down I think you will see people from many races and from other distant towns fueling some of the disruption there. We saw it in LA, and called them Riot Tourists. They came just to destroy, then go home to their "safe" and unscarred communities.

In LA the rioting started among once race after the cops were all exonerated over the Rodney King beating. But once the looting started, people of ALL RACES joined in, and it even took on some aspects of race warfare, as black- white- or hispanic-owned shops were spared and Korean-owned shops were torched. There were signs in shop windows all over LA County in, near, or easily accessible from the unruly areas that said "[color] or [ethnicity] owned -- NOT KOREAN." It was ugly.

No one knows the race of the freeway snipers, so add that layer on the unrest in LA and the whole LA Basin was shut down.

I remember a woman standing in the street with a baby on her hip in tears. (Paraphrasing) "Why are you doing this to your own people? You are destroying your own homes! Where am I supposed to get food to feed your babies now? Where your grandmother go to get her medications now that you have burned up the stores? How do I get to my job when the buses wont run because of you? Where do I go to live now that it's all ruined here?"

Heartbreaking.

Away from the crazies for awhile. You know I think my forced break because of my shoulder, gave me some perspective. It helped me realize that I really didn't need to feed the beast all day long. Let's face it I started playing palm pilot games to deal with the long waits at my shrinks office. These games are supposed to be a distraction or something to do while we let real life take a break. My problem is I didn't have a life.

Anyway now that I play just a little less, sometimes only working on one iPad (wink wink because I don't have a second farm on the other,wink wink), and I realize that my farm will wait for me when ever I can get back to it, I feel a bit less pressured. I am enjoying my books, or my sewing projects and I am sure I will enjoy cooking tomorrow for my husbands birthday. I might come to the forum more than the farm, because I really enjoy interacting with you all. That's the best think about HayDay for me. Meeting you all and being a part of your day. Thanks. All of you.

Once a voracious reader, upon discovering Hay Day, my reading habits went the way of the dinosaur! Yet in the last few weeks or so since trying to keep up with everything had become so frustrating & pushed me beyond the saturation point with virtual farming, the tablet is less often in my hand & my beloved books have returned.

Thanks HD for re-igniting my passion. Far less stressful to turn a real page & have thoughts & words command my attention rather than greedy townies & unrewarding boats!

I thought it was just me that was suddenly having trouble getting saws and axes. i used to be flooded in them and get them more than other things especially when wheating. I have spent diamonds on Tom 3 times now to get them when I had dead trees everywhere and no where enough saws to get rid of them.

returning to the topic. Is it me or is there a huge amount of boats asking for Dairy, Sugar mill and jams?

I haven been looking at the DD for over 1 hour. I haven't seen anyone asking for a different kind of request... which is crazy... I saw one or maybe 2 odd boats asking for something different, but, the majority was that... and I received one awful boat order I just sent away... and I have have been sending 3 in a row now.

first one asked for: Fish burger, Bacon and Eggs and Baked potato. All of them from the BBQ grill. Uh... I only have one BBQ grill, how am I supposed to fill in that order?!

second one: cream, cream cake, blackberry jam. Seriously? cream and cream cake... cream alone is a no. Away it went.

Third one (currently waiting): Feta pie, white sugar and cotton shirt. Not as ludicrous as the past two, but, white sugar is a no. Also, I have the sewing machine full of violet dresses. And goat cheese is currently being used for the salad bar, so no.

first boat made me ask myself: wasn't this tweaked a long time ago? boats aren't supposed to ask 3 things from one machine, correct?

So, the low count for the boat orders isn't entirely because of lack of motivation. I say it's because of stupid boat orders. At least, that's what I think. For example, the current boat event, the goal won't be met, even with 4 days and 17 hours (as of now), all because people continue to get stupid boat orders and they are just sent away.

edit in: fourth boat I will send away is asking for:
cotton shirt (really? I just sent one boat like this away!)
Violet dress (maybe... I have plenty but...)
Cream cake (again?)

sigh... give me a break already. Event is no fun like this...

Seems like they are trying to squeeze more money by creating sort of a bottleneck of dairy products. I bet they don't have plan to add a second dairy/sugar mill too

Cesar81, sounds as if you're in the same bad boat as the rest of us, dear fellow! (Sorry for the pun, but the occasion was ripe for it!:o)

Seriously tho, if you've read even a small portion of this thread, you know you're not alone. Your string of repetitive orders are more evidence of why players are apathetic & disillusioned with events, & harkens back to the question I asked earlier. With the possibility of over a quarter million potential combinations, why are players getting boat after boat of the same darned things?

It's increasingly obvious duplicated items are not a rare phenomenon, & if there is a random generator spitting out the combos, then someone at SC needs to go in & give it a good swift kick, much like one had to do with old washing machines because theirs seems to be stuck on rinse & repeat!

As for the help requests in the DD, I can sympathize with you there too. Flipping through my copy, the majority is for sugar/dairy/jam/seafood/juice/bread & as much as I dislike not lending a hand, my answer is inevitably no, no, no, no, no, & no. I'm thrilled whenever I see one for raw crops, cakes, pies, roasted tomatoes, or clothing. I'd be happy to help with bread & popcorn orders, but don't have the room to keep 40 or 50 in the barn all at once, so I make & sell it every day & it usually gets snapped up before I have a chance to put an ad on it.

The reasons I believe we keep seeing the same sort of requests in the DD are (1) the players who've spoken out in this thread aren't the only ones getting repetitive orders & (2) those players may not be aware they can send a lousy boat away without filling it. I know I didn't discover that fact until I joined the forum.

Actually, I think this was "tweaked" so that you wouldn't get double or triple orders on the same product in one boat. So before, your upcoming boat could ask for vanilla cones, vanilla cones, and carrot juice. Now, all three items asked for will always be different, even though they could still come from the same machine. It could be vanilla cones, chocolate cones, and carrot juice. I think they changed this during the soy sauce debacle when people were getting boat orders for soy sauce, soy sauce and soy sauce.
