I'm a fully maxed out th 5 and right now my town hall is upgrading to level 6. I'd like to go to town hall 7 but I'm not sure if I should just skip to town hall 7, instead of maxing out townhall 6. Thanks!:)

go for it. maxxing out every town hall doesnt really apply until th7
Town hall rushing is for people who wanna be able to say, "Hey guys, I got town hall 10!" Just so they can impress their friends or feel how it's like to be able to get the most powerful troops/buildings in the game. If you wanna play the game real, I suggest you just max out your base before upgrading town hall. However things don't get real pricey until around town hall 7/8.
I got a friend who bought A LOT of gems and rushed his town hall from lvl6 to lvl8 and when he went to school and told me and my friends we were all like, "Dude, not funny." Though he probably expected us to be like "OMG, that's SO cool!" (He's a jerk sometimes).
If I were u I would just upgrade to TH7 after maxing troops,spells,labatory and army camps.Then start maxing out from there.

Get to TH7 as quickly as possible then max out everything at TH7 and TH8. TH6 is like being 19 years old. There's nothing special about it and you're still a teenager.

This is exactly what I did. Just remember max everything, well except maybe the collectors, but others should be max.
Loot penalty is the main reason people don't level their TH when possible. However, TH6 and below can't get lv11 collectors nor do they have lv10 most of the time so penalty from attacking them isn't that bad
rushing to th7 is good even if th10 but make sure you dont fall apart there somo calculation to doQuote:

TH rushing really depends on what you want and/or how you play. The only REAL importance is the ability to gain resources and keeping yourself in the position to gain resources. That's the bottom line an the whole point of the progress in the game.
If you're an active player you can do this by simply attacking a lot in sessions and your walls/defense (besides clan wars) just doesn't really matter in your ability to collect what you need for that next upgrade. Once you have your offense set at the level needed to attack THs your level you're good to go.
If you're more casual and depend more on your mines/collectors you'll want the protection to help protect your resources and generally maxing before you go up keeps you in better situations to do so because of the loot penalty.
Those are the extremes, anything in between really depends on your prefences or intelligence in building/progressing your base.
Im a rushed TH9 myself..never had a problem...started playing clash 3months back. Farmed more than 350mil gold now.

I'd suggest to max your troops and splash defenses. There's really no need to be impatient, because rushed bases look ugly and struggle with loot.
Fyi, even a rushed TH7 is expectionally well at farming. I presume it has something to do with the fourth army camp you get at TH7, which increases your strength drastically.
