Clan war whitelist option (Opt In/Out of War)

So I see a lot of suggestions about adjusting the way clan wars work, with people leaving, or not attacking.


well how about this, create a clan war whitelist (war list?), that members in the clan have to, signup/agree to join the next available war, or let the clan leader/co-leaders, put members into the war list (this could simple by a check box beside their name visable to co-leaders+ only on the clan member tab).

This would allow clans to have their attacking members join, and farming members do their own thing.

Not every clan member wants to do a war, not every clan member is AVAILABLE to do the war.

Give them the choice to join it, dont cause a clan to lose in a war simple because not everyone is available/wants to join it.

This is an excellent idea. Prior to every war I have to kick and re-invite about 5-10 minis and low level friends. It's a hassle and I really don't like kicking but it has to be done. With a white list this would allow leaders to exempt ppl from war without kicking or having people leave just to declare war.

Every clan war in my clan is like, half is attacking, they attack all, we lose. Also the people that don't want to play the clanwar or can't play it have to be kicked and come back later when the war has started, this is an excellent idea!!

Yes please. We have people leave/come back so they don't get in the war (or to bump it down to a smaller war). It would be nice for an opt in/out for clan wars.

2 people voted NO... please explain why this would not fit your clan? It's the difference between a win and a lose.

This just seems like a no brainer decision for Supercell.

Supercell Should Consider Adding This Because My Clan Has Some People I Have Never Seen Participate In Wars , This SOMETIMES Cost Us Our Battle

The benefits and drawbacks of this have been discussed many times in many threads. Most of the supporters and decenters are sick of the new threads. All of the information you seek is here. Just have to search for it. No need to retype it all again.

Learn to search. It is all over the place. Many different threads with probably 100 pages worth of information. Many of those pages have links back to previous threads too. Nobody should have to do it again because later today, and tomorrow several times it will all be requested again, and again, and again. I understand the pro's and con's of allowing people to opt-out of war. I happen to be against it but I will continue to play within the rules of the game regardless of which way SC decides take it.

Not upset or trying to come across as impatient. Unfortunately on the interwebz there is no way to display tone in a conversation so any dissenting opinion ends up sounding grouchy or worse. The simple unfortunate reality is that the request, and the request for details, and the request for links to previous conversations have all been made dozens of times. Activity on the forums is good but there is no good argument for indulging the exact same request several times each day. I understand that searching the threads before you post your own is difficult. Trying to answer them is the exact same frustration on the other side of the coin.

Only reason i voted no is because not everyone like me is hungry for war which gives me something to do while i wait 7days for my dragons to upgrade. im busy in and out of the game donating or farming or just chatting but many people ignore all that and do no more than just request troops. they ignore clan mail they fight in a war when it suits them, some send out pointless attacks. the fact is i see just more frustration for leaders as they wait for people to make an effort and say yes or no. maybe add an option that if they say yes to war then dont use attacks they get fined a % of their coins/elixor

You actually meant to vote YES since in your first sentence you said "not everyone like me is hungry for war", which means if you want to keep your trophy count and not be in the war for your clan your leader should be able to opt you out of the upcoming war. This is what we are trying to get Supercell to do for us leader is opt out those who are "not everyone like me is hungry for war"/do not want to be in the upcoming war. :p

That would make sense because say we don't have enough people for a war, then Leaders can just add enough members to make the cut.

There is no downside to this being added, great idea. :D

As a fellow opponent to this idea I don't see this argument as one of the problems. It would be fairly easy using the current match making system to balance that part out. However, a clan picking it's 10 weakest players, then pumping them full of max level troops to attack with will make it impossible to create even match-ups.

Currently If the leader doesn't want you in the war he will/could just kick you before hand, this is not an issue with this system.

I don't know if I like this idea or not. What if the person wants to attack in the war but don't get on during prep day to say "yes I want to" and click the little box. I think that all the boxes should be checked saying everybody will then they can uncheck it if they don't want to. That way people don't miss out on the war that they wanted to fight in. Another thing I am wondering is, when would this take place. Would people check yes or no before the war search starts? Because you can't have a prep day for 40v40 war then 20 people say no. They'd have to be able to click the box saying they don't want to before clan war search even starts. Make since? I like the idea but it needs a little more explaining.

This has to happen before the Leader/Co-Leader even starts the war.

Basically they should implement a check list where the members will check a box if they would like in the next war. Then the leader can go in and see who wants in and who doesn't, and then he can choose the members that will be active in the war based on who checked the box. He will then choose the correct amount of members needed to start a war (10, 15, etc). He obviously can choose members that didn't check the box if he needs to fill in a gap to make a war team.

Okay. That would make since. So preventing the leader to choose whoever he/she wants, do all the people with checked boxes attack automatically or can to the leader say to somebody that wants to go to war that they can't? Because if the leader or co leader choses who attacks. I feel like that would lead to conflict.

I don't like it if the leader and/or co leader choses to attack. I would like it better if everybody that said yes goes to war and if u need to fill more spots then you can pick some of the ppl who wanted out knowing that they may not attack.

Me and my clan have been experiencing this a lot. Just the last war we were in we had a guy on a cruise and had no cell service.

We wound up losing because he was unable to attack and others just were not attacking.

Bad thing is some clans have people within them that people are friends and know each other in real life. It is not fair to them because they do not want to attack in a war for what ever the reason to be forced to just because they want to be with a friend in a clan.

It seems that they could implement an opt in or out of war option for people and then the war would be based on how many people opted in. So for example if a clan of 50 people on have 35 of the 50 opt in for the war then the clan would be placed in a 35 vs 35 person war. I was thinking it could simply be a setting in the settings side that u could click that says opt in for war and unless you manually change it, then you will never go to war.

The rewards would not be as great as the higher of course, but now we are not being forced to kick friends out for not wanting to attack in wars. This is a great game and some just like the regular multiplayer aspect of gaming with no wars. However clans are being punished and usually losing because people refuse to attack.

I hope this option can be implemented into the game, because it will definitely make the game more fun for the ones who wish to war all the time and also for those who do not want to be forced into the war.

Another issue is some of the lower people don't feel that there ready for the war bc of lack of practice or they just want to build up their base more by farming before going and getting involved in a war.

Just to clarify, how do you pump players full of max level troops?

Are you talking about pumping their defending war Clan Castle? Because you can't donate unless you are in the war... so it can't be that to which you are talking about.

Are you talking about pumping their attacking Clan Castle full of max level troops? Well they might have a chance to win the war, but their towns are gonna be weak and might even lose the war.
Also what does this benefit those stronger players who are not even in the war? It doesn't.

It works like this . . .

Since we don't know the equation that SC uses for calculating troop/defense strength the numbers I am using here are simply to represent how the clans are matched.

Clan A has 20 members with a combined strength score of say 2000 and all 20 of them opt-in for the war.

Clan B has 30 members, but their top 10 opt-out of the war leaving their bottom 20 members who also have a strength score of 2000.

As a result of the 20-vs-20 matchup and even score, Clan A and Clan B are selected by the system to be matched up and the war prep begins. Only people in the war can fill defense castles so the troops inside can be considered even. Bases in Clan B will probably be stronger designs since hey have more powerful/experienced players helping them design their bases. Huge advantage to Clan B. War day starts and the attacking troops are evenly matched except that Clan B has clan castles full of maximum level witches/vals/hogs/dragons to attack with that allow them to steamroll their "evenly matched" opponents, particularly with the help of their more experience clan mates helping them strategize their attacks.

In the end Clan B steamrolls the competition and earns themselves another win, more loot for their developing members, and the recruiting boost that comes with a solid war record. This is why you would rather send your WEAKEST members into a war instead of the strongest.

Clan A feels dejected and starts to complain on the forums about how unfair clan wars are. And they are right.

Well this is already happening because only the best people are in wars.. Others are asked to lower trophies in my clan to stay out of wars if they are not ready.. So making it an option won't affect war results.. It will help those not in wars to keep decent trophies and farm..

Well that is a possibility but I see it a very distant and remote possibility.. All top players in a clan help design bases for low level players... But they can't attack for them anyway.attacking has to be done by the low level players...

Even if u pump in high level troops, one (or more) lightning or if it's a heavy troop like dragon, few rangers n wizards can kill them..

I dont think it will make a big difference..

I have read many threads and points about this. I agree it is being asked a lot, over and over, but feel this should continue to be the case as this is a forum for discussing people's wishes, the best way to get across how important / unimportant a requested issue may be is to keep seeing how many people it affects and how much of a reaction it causes.

To give my own opinion on the matter, I have yet to read a single argument for or against this issue that cannot be "worked around" using various methods.

The balance and tactics that could be employed to cause unfair clan wars are all readily available right now. Any clan that feels the need to win a war like this can do so simply by manipulating trophy counts and having people join / leave the clan during war search. If you are that way inclined then you will work the system anyway. Your exact example would just require the top 10 players to leave the clan. Then start the clan war search, once found, they come back to the clan and donate their max level troops.

The same goes for those that want the opt out feature. If they just leave the clan before a war search then they won't be in it. Simple.

However, the one factor that is different between these two is that the opt out is for people who do not want to participate in clan wars. If some people in the clan wish to go to war, why should the ones that don't have to go to the effort of leaving the clan and coming back later. It's the wrong people that need to do the manipulating.

I personally have a family/friend clan. There are just 14 of us and it is a closed clan, it has parents and children and friends. We have pretty much every town hall from 3 to 10 and a range of leagues from bronze to masters. Some of us farm, some of us get trophies, some of us just use it to chat. Some of us would like to war, some of us would not. Some of us can war, some of us can't. We are in the situation that we struggle in many wars due to people being on holiday, at school, in bed, etc. We have to choose to "game" the system by asking friends, family, children to leave / rejoin the clan, or we just feel dejected in clan wars because we often do not stand a chance.

Don't penalize those that want to enjoy playing the game because you're worried about those that want to manipulate the system. The ones that manipulate will do so anyway.

I'm agree with all your points, and I'm gathering you are all for this with a YES.

From what I gather it would just make your family/friend clan easier to go to war if you didn't have to "manipulate trophies" or "asking friends/family to leave and rejoin the clan".

I like the opting in and out bit but what if you and the leader/co didnt get along and they decided to bully you by not letting you join the war?

I think you should be able to choose if you are in the war or not but not le the leaders choose

why would you still be in the clan then?

also its YOU who hits the check box.

the leaders can only fill in extra spaces with people who never opted in.

meaning its the players who opt in, and leaders who just fill the remaining slots for war.

We are really facing a problem. Some people in our clan want to do wars every few days and some only want to do them a time or two per month. But it has become apparent that wars are very difficult to win if participation is low. If even 15% don't participate it can cost the win even if the participating players did quite well with their attacks. Wars are already enough of an expensive proposition for the donators and a gamble for the participants anyway. Give us a fighting chance.

We don't want our friends to go elsewhere because we don't go to war enough, but without an opt-in button we can't hope to win regardless of how lame our opponent's attacks are. We had a war this last weekend where our opponent was crushed statistically but had 10 more attacks completed than we did so they won. Most of us spent more than 4 times what we earned for participating. You can't be mad at clan members that had to work on war day or were otherwise indisposed but it makes all of us want to abstain from the wars altogether if we are just going to spend a ton of resources and time planning for nothing.

We're all really good friends and so the answer isn't going to be 'split up into factions'. But, we shouldn't be penalized for having friends that aren't ALWAYS as enthusiastic about the game as we are. And they shouldn't have to feel like they're holding us back because they can't always spend 2 or 3 hours on a given day playing the game. We were toying with the idea of spinning up a 'War Clan' and just letting the individuals that WANT to participate in a given war join the war clan for it, but our main clan is invite-only which poses an annoying problem, not to mention, then the main clan leader can't participate without losing his chair as leader. And of course there's the whole 'stats' problem with that too.

I have a level 9 and a level 10 base and nearly all my troops are maxed. I play this game a LOT. I have never felt the need to request a feature until now. But I had to for this one. I specifically joined the forums to respond to this post.

Best idea I have read since Clan Wars came out.

Since leaders are often the most active and manage clan affairs, I think it would be best if the leader selects who is in war and who is not, or at least has a higher authority to change the opt in and outs to suite the desired war size.

As it is 24 hours before we declare war, all members comment in clan chat their availability. We also make new member spectate first wars and we also have a few members who just do not want to war. 10 minutes before war is declared we then have to kick, declare and invite everyone back.

The problem with this method is: 1. Its requires considerable effort and 2. it resets members donations for the season.

This idea of opt in/out (perhaps with clean leader having a higher selection authority) is a must!

We are a clan that has been around since December 2012. We have a solid core of members, 30 of which have been here for over 6 months. We are adults only, and most of our members are middle-age, with jobs and spouses and kids. We have members from all over the world: USA, UK, Middle East, Europe, China, etc.

Because of all these factors, the workarounds I have seen proposed in other threads just aren't viable for us. People say that to opt out of war, people should leave before it starts. Many of our members are asleep when we start a war, and that would be true no matter when we started it. Kicking people won't work either.

We have two kinds of members: A) People that loved wars and wanted to war all the time, and B) People that just wanted to farm and donate troops.

Our clan was almost torn apart by clan wars and the differing opinions of what to do about it. We finally decided to make a separate clan just for war, that people could join freely when they wanted to war, and keep our main clan for farming/opting out of wars.

It is not a perfect solution. Our clan is now split 60% of the time, and donation totals are 10x harder to keep track of. If people could just opt out of the wars whenever they would rather not participate, all our problems would be fixed.

To address other people's concerns, sending in your bottom 20 to face other clans and steamroll them, doesn't make any sense. So what if they have max dark troops in their barracks. If they're your bottom 20, they'll be TH9 at the highest, and 30 spots are not going to turn the tide of a war. I don't see any disadvantages to people opting out. It would make this game so much more fun for everyone involved. The warmongers could get near 100% participation, and the farmers could relax and not feel pressured to do hugely expensive war attacks.

well how about this, create a clan war whitelist (war list?), that members in the clan have to, signup/agree to join the next available war, or let the clan leader/co-leaders, put members into the war list (this could simple by a check box beside their name visable to co-leaders+ only on the clan member tab).

This would allow clans to have their attacking members join, and farming members do their own thing.

Not every clan member wants to do a war, not every clan member is AVAILABLE to do the war.

Give them the choice to join it, dont cause a clan to lose in a war simple because not everyone is available/wants to join it.

My friend, this is just an outstanding idea. Simple, effective, and what every clan needs to succeed. It has a striking resemblance to a thread I know all too well also. ;) What I would be curious to see, are a couple pictures depicting this idea. I mean I get the general vision of it, but it would be cool to add into your thread :)

Definitely need to add my support to this.

When clan wars came out as a new feature my oldest running clan split up due to differing opinions on war at all let alone frequency. Had we been able to war as often as those who wanted to wanted, and then keep other clan mates out who are just casually playing the game farming away, we could have kept the clan as it was growing to become.

Would have been a fantastic option.

Darwyn your point is understandable.. I would like to suggest a separate "empty" clan castle like u suggested with donations only possible by members at "war" just like u said.

Just like we have a separate "war base", let's have a "war clan castle"... Let normal clan castle be used for pvp that everyone can donate but cannot be used for war..

Instead of complaining about how people don't search the forums, like I have been told, I've just been posting a link to here on those new threads that I search everyday about the opting in/out of war... it has brought the numbers up but still no sightings of the Supercell staff in this thread.

I really don't ubderstand that this is not in the game. Its not that hard ablnd it makes clanwarring for people alot easier. My clan even has 2 clans, one for clanwar and the other one for the people who don't l. Its really anoying and the clan is kind of split up at the moment. I really hope SC is going to add this coming update, i really really hope so...

I voted yes a long time ago on this poll and im glad to see that its getting bigger. I really want this to be added into the game but i just thought of something that might stop SC from adding this into the game. All clans have a few lower level guys are great and donate a lot. My clan has like 6 of them and the only reason theyre still in our clan is because theyre ALWAYS ON and they donate like crazy. The thing is they arent the best when it comes to clan war raiding. In other clans a leader might take advantage of this and only allow the best players to join in wars. Also, if a clan has 40-50 people, the clan leader can choose his top 20 and face clans that only have 20 people in them. I think that this would be the biggest problem.
