Is It Effective to Use Hog Riders at Town Hall 8?

I want to know if I could use Hog Riders at Town Hall 8 effectively. I can not use them right now, as they are level 1, but I am saving up my DE to upgrade them. I am planning on only using my lab to max them to level 4, so once I achieve this, could I use the hog rider strategy to get 2 or 3 stars on bases in Clan Wars? My heal spell is 4, and my elixir troops are maxed except for healer. (Never Use It)
If I can use it, please suggest an army composition for 200 spaces with the hog rider, and how to use them. I am pretty sure the spells are 3 heals. Even better, a guide on how to use them.

what TH are you planning to attack?
You still can 3 star 99% of TH8 and young TH9 with hogs. 28-30 hogs + archers can work. You can throw in a giant to lure the CC out, depends on base configuration.

I'm a pretty good attacker for my level, so young town hall 9s and maxed 8's.

Im a near maxed TH7 and I have three-starred a couple TH8's in clan war using all hogs and three heal spells and a few archers for the cc troops

Yes, at TH8, hogs are definitely feasible. The main concern, IMO, is against the giant bomb. With a single maxed giant bomb it will insta-kill hogs at level 1&2, but at level 3, the hogs can withstand the initial blast of a single giant bomb at full health.

So getting your hogs to lvl 3 (or the max of 4) for TH8, will allow you to attack TH8's with no obvious 2x4 gaps (where giant bombs may lurk) by using heal spells effectively.

As for army composition, it depends on the target. If you can prepare for it (ie. clan wars), look at CC and figure out what is needed to pull all troops. Add maybe 40 archers to take CC troops down in a corner, and then the rest hogs. I also prefer a CC full of hogs as well. All heal spells. If there's royalty, the hogs are faster so hopefully with minimal loss of hogs, they will outrun them.

Keep in mind, if hogs are currently in a healing ring, getting hit by royalty will not insta-kill them (depending on royalty level of course), so the loss of your bacon shouldn't be as severe.

They are plenty effective at TH8. Problem is with only one drill and the fact you need to save DE for the BK (or saving for the AQ if you are close to upgrading to TH9) plus all of your other dark upgrades.... it's hard to say they're worth using frequently.

And yes, lvl 1-2 hogs are barely worth using if not at all. Lvl 3 minimum and really lvl 4-5 is ideally what you want. Update makes them a little more tricky to use (unlureable royals and extra dmg from giant bombs) but they still do very well on compact bases with very little inside spacing.

I wouldn't make it an every day routine of using hogs, but every once in awhile you'll find some bases you can clean up without costing you too much de. They also are plenty effective for war on most TH8's and some TH9's depending on their base layout.

Hogs are Very Effective against TH 8 , especially with Heal Spell (use heal as opposed to Rage) , use them against villages with tightly clumped defences , so that you can make a good guess on the Giant Bombs being on the outside of the base, or at a funnel which the hogs will ignore . The other reason Hogs are best on tightly packed bases is because. They can then hop quickly between defensive units.

A good combo to use is Hogs>Dragons>Archers . With 200 spaces a good combo would be 18 hogs / 4 dragons / 30 Archers . The Archers and Dragons need to be well levelled but if you have an upgraded heal spell the Hogs are good to go at almost any level against a TH with no xbows.

Release the Hogs aimed at the AD's , or the clump of defences in front of them . Once you have used roughly half your hogs to clear the AD's on one side of the TH , then release the Dragons to roast their way towards the TH ( symmetrical bases are best as its easy to quickly assess the placement of AD's etc . Obviously it's critical that the AD's are down before dragons are released or the entire attack is in jeopardy. . Once the Dragons are busy, the Archers can be spot spawned to pick off any outlying buildings and help raise the total percentage .
You can substitute some or all of the Dragons for Balloons here, but again the Balloons will have to be well upgraded and the AD tactics still apply.
Its pointless having any other troops than the Archers to pick off side buildings as they can keep out of range whilst doing this. Also keep in mind that no walls will be worried about or broken in this attack, so the Archers are extras, but nonetheless crucial extras as they perform a very useful role ...particularly when things havent quite gone to plan!

I use Hogs on mostly TH 9/10 bases , but when i do come across a TH 8 it goes down v.fast! Having said that, my Hogs are maxed out at L5 .

also i should mention that due to the time and cost of these troops its an attack thats only used once or twice a day, unless you are boosting.

Overall good post, but I'm not so sure I agree with this. You use hogs on TH10's with Infernos? Not a very good idea IMO as infernos negate healing and a TH10 has a ton of defenses to pummel your bacon with.

TH8 for sure and TH9 I can understand depending on their layouts....but TH10? Not so much. Gowiwi, Drags, Loonian etc is much more effective than hogs on TH10's from my experience. Unless for some reason they lack infernos or have low lvl defenses.

With the current update hogs pretty much took a bath on high lvl play. Still effective for TH8's and 9's but it isn't the same just spam and win button it used to be. Gowiwi, wipe, etc are becoming much more popular at this stage in terms of higher lvl play.

Yup, the 1.5x damage from Giant Bombs is a problem , there are many ways they could have balanced hogs ( to the benefit of entire villages) rather than this, as all i have to do is look for well packed out bases, and send in hogs.

Having said that most TH 10 bases are much better designed and dont make it easy for hogs, even at L5 the 3 XBows and Inferno Towers do as you rightly say start to make Bacon very quickly! .. But as i only use this attack for, as i said, one attack or so a day, I just need to find that base which has AD's i can hit and Ground facing xBow , then after they are out, the Dragons can get the DE and TH ( hopefully) while the Archers get the building to be sure of Percentage.
So it can still work well, but mostly only 2 stars and approx 60-70% is the outcome.

But it as far as 'popular' attacks go, i have never really read the web, or followed popular tactics since i started playing, in fact i like to keep trying different things ( but to reassure the OP , the attack i mentioned is a well practised one :-)) - experimenting with my own tactics is what i enjoy, also i am doing ok with it - So Far!

I have been playing the game for quite a long time now, but not the forum as you see... So maybe you can help me with a question!? ... I understand most abbreviations of attacks from Global Chat in game, such as Barch etc... But 'Gowiwi' and 'loonian' !!?? .. I am guessing , giants , witches, wizards etc.. But perhaps you could tell me for certain this once!?
