Barb-Archer attack - need you advice

I am trying out the Barb-Archer attack (110 Lvl 4 Barbs + 90 Lvl 4 Archers) and I would like to hear from those experienced in how you deploy the troops.

In general, the attack works well, but sometimes, it would fail miserably, and I am trying to find out why.

Do you deploy troops in L shape or 360 degree all around the base? Or does it depend on the base design?
Are there bases that you would avoid (apart from those obviously very strong TH8 or TH9 bases, for my Lvl 4 troops anyways)?
Do you deploy a whole bunch of barbs at a single point on the wall to break it or just let them work through the walls by themselves?

I generally deploy approx half barbs, then half archers in L shape, and then 2 to 3 waves of barbs-archers. Not sure if this is the best way or not.

I am curious to know how as well cause one of our clanmates used all level 4 barbs and archers with 10 breakers and made it all the way to 2200 trophies! He's a level 55 and i'm at 89 using all my tier 1 level 6 troops and still had a tough time keeping up.

I use a variant of this army.. (but my personal taste is more troop variety. I use a Healer, 6-8 WBs and Giants and a mix of Barb/Arch more Barbs as they are cheaper/faster to build, take more damage and hit harder. I dont always use the Giants or Healer or WBs.)

But I would reccomend you use at least a few WBs to make the segmented bases a bit easier. *note, Clear the segments to work the WB AI effectively* you have been warned.

more to the point. wen I expieremented with the only Barb/Arch...

I send a few Barbs to take out outer collectors. *in a line or 'swipe' if you will* parallell to the collector line. back with Archys (less then the barbs) repeat as necessary. then they will attack the walls

to get inside the base send a swarm (hold in one spot) of 15-25 to attack to target one point on the base wall. they tunnel much faster in this fashion. again back with archers, when the defensive turrets target the barbs, place the Archys to assist with cleanup of those turrets. semi-circles/ "L-Shapes" work great. repeat as necessary. if you are going for three star, send a few troops to the loose corner huts/barracks w/e..

If you get a CC full of troops, dump a bunch (Swarm) of the Barbs (against non flying uints) or Archers in a "L" or Semi-or-Full-Circle (like if a Dragon pops out) this will obviously eat into your profits (farming) or Progress % (trophs) but it is to be expected you will face adversity when the CC full. ( I have sucked it up and left when faced with CC build to counter this troop combo.)

What is nice is this group builds Fast! and you can raid often, so the learning curve is low as you can raid enough to form a Solid strategy to test out which bases are prime for this combo; like everyones favorite "BOX" build.. you know EVERYTHING stuffed into four walls (for those I use a healer and a bunch of Barbs..makes short work of those simple bases)

If you are farming, use a few WBs and some Gobs (15-25) to clear out stores in the final min or so..or send them in when the splash Defenses are down..which ever is more effective.

Edit to add, if you clan mates can offer you Giants or Tier Two troops, it helps greatly on the large loot bases!

Barbs and archers are part of my staple raiding army. They are cheap and quick to make! The only difference is that I usually like to throw in a few gobs and about 6 wallbreakers.

I used to just let my barbs and archers loose all around the base in like the 360 degree thing you mentioned. I found that ineffective and just lazy. You might get a star or some resources but it didn't give the best results.


Like you said, it does depend on the base design of the person you're going for. Try to figure out the most vulnerable side as quickly as you can and start there and break your way in. Draw out the cc troops and eliminate those with a lightning spell. What I like to do is send in a wave of about 10-15 barbs to destroy any outlying structures and also to draw the attention of their defense weapons and set them loose in a small C-shape. Then I send a wave of archers behind the barbs so while the weapons are busy killing the barbs, the archers are firing at the weapons. Then open up the base with a couple of wallbreakers while the defense weapons are distracted. Send in another wave of barbs and archers and repeat as desired. When the resources are exposed, I then spam gobs. It works well for me but not always successful. Some bases are harder to get into than others. Hope this helped you in some way. Best of luck :)

Same here. I use 90 barbs and 100 archers, all lv 4. I will typically sprinkle barbs until trash buildings that will distract the attack are destroyed, then release groups of 20 barbs and lines of archers.

My army is 10 WB, 100 archer, 40 barbs, 40 goblins. I attack from weak side. Ill drop some barbs and archers to take out outside buildings on that one side. As the barbs approach the wall, I'll follow with some WBs. IF Its a segmented base and I want to meteor center, I'll deploy more archers to take out buildings in segmented spots so WB don't aim somewhere I don't want them going. Then I'll keep dropping 5 or so barbs and 10 or15 archers. Works every time.. I hang around 1250-1600 trophies.

Using only 2 units that doesn't have priority targets doesn't open up a whole lot of strategies. You can only beat weak bases with weak walls. I would say farming wise just pick your targets, trophy wise just target undefended areas.

nice cheap troop setup quick to build i've got a lot of time for those....you might want to consider carrying a small number (4 isn) of wall breakers so they don't bunch up outside mortars...

I'm using that exact army on nate's account right now...he wanted to get to 1250 cups for the achievement ...

Anyway i've found that using the range of the archer to take any splash weapons you can pop the wall with the wb and then rush basically with barbs...be a little careful you don't bunch them near splash defences...short bursts

Anyway that seems to be working for me ... interesting to see different opinions on this though :)
