First of all, a pack of wizards won't get smashed by splash defenses(wiz tower and mortar), and wizard's dps are far superior to archer's. Only downside to wizards is long traning time and high cost, but if you are training for a push or clan war attack, wizards are worth it. Generally, I use archers for farming, and wizards for clan war and trophy pushing.
At TH6 you only have limited army camp space available, and stat wise 1 Wizard barely beats 4 Archers. And while 1 Wizard has slightly greater net HP - they will always die faster to point defense than 4 archers as each archer required to be targetted separately.
Also, archers attack range is slightly greater than that of a Wizard. 3.5 tiles vs 3 tiles - you would be surprised how much that helps.
If you are keen to try Wizards you absolutely must protect them, they will need Giants to help keep them alive. With archers as long as you avoid splash you can use them more recklessly.
Some disadvantages of wizards are their slow movement speed, noticeable lag in shooting out their first shot, and shorter range than archers. This puts them in front of their archer allies when attacking, effectively turning them into meatshields.
But their damage and HP is superior to archers, of course.
Don't worry about wizards, if you want to farm, just do barbarians + archers. Nothing beats it at any level
You can heal wizards. Archers are one shot kill in many instances. For clan war wizards are superior, with the exception of a handful of archers to pick off outlying unprotected buildings.
1 wizard has better stats than 4 archers (of about +1 equal level), but they cost more elixir and time to train. I personally think that archers are easier to use because there is more room for error. Also, I find it very wasteful to lure cc troops with wizards because they cost so much and take up more housing space. Giant bombs also 1 shot wizards, so you need to use them carefully or they will die very quickly.
I have an alt account that is town hall 6, and I only ever use wizards in clan wars. If you are not used to using wizards, or do not have wizards level 3, I'd say stick with archers at town hall 6. It's always better to use something you're comfortable with in a clan war.
I can't believe anyone would use wizards to lure cc troops ... archers are not appropriate either as they don't run right up to a building. Giants, barbs, loons, hogs for luring duty please.
