Any Suggestions?

So I just upgraded to TH8 from a nearly maxed TH7. This first couple of days have been rough. I have read many posts and am doing all the basics of upgrading splash damage, ad, and teslas. All of the upgrades take gold and with these upgrades happening I can seem to keep my village from getting ransacked anytime I log off for 5 minutes. I am in Gold I currently, and using Orz's "Trapception" base. I have no lvl 5 troops yet (archers upgrading).

Is this something that I will have to deal with and is normal? Or is there something I could be doing differently as far as an upgrade strategy or base design? I know it will be easier to keep my loot after my defenses are upgraded, but I was just wondering if I could ease the pain for now. My base defensive lvls are as follows:

Mortars- lvl 5 and one upgrading to 6
Wiz Towers- new one at lvl 2, one at 4 and one upgrading to 5
AD- 2 at lvl 5 and one upgrading to lvl 3
Teslas- 2 at lvl 3 and one upgrading to lvl 2
Clan Castle- upgrading to lvl 4 (usually filled with lvl 4-5 archers)
Cannons- all at lvl 8
Archer Towers- 4 at lvl 8 and one at lvl 6
Walls- lvl 7 except new walls; 15 lvl 6 and 35 lvl 5
BK- lvl 4

My suggestion is try to be able to upgrade something at the end of a session, or at least keep your held gold below 1 million.

First of all a good TH9 farmer can hit a max TH8 with ease, but you can do few things to stop th9 farmers from 3 starring you.
Upgrade all your mortars to lvl 6 ( a lvl 6 mortar can one shot kill level 6 archers).
Upgrade your Wizard towers to max.
Dump extra gold on walls.
Since most TH9 farmers use giants in their army,fill your CC with Valk's and lvl 5 wizards.
Try to farm at 1520 range.

Thanks for your advice, I am getting attacked by TH9's but TH8's also. I am trying to upgrade defenses as quickly as possible (5 days per motar, etc..). I was trying to keep gold on hand for the next set of upgrades, I am trying to keep all 5 builders busy. But dumping excess gold into walls is a good idea. I was just tying to cut down on farming time by keeping some on hand.

Are you using a farming base? Leaving your TH exposed to snipers will net you valuable shields to keep loot raiders from cleaning you out. My defense logs shows 25 out of my last 30 defenses have been TH snipers only. And 3 of the 5 raiding defenses barely scratched my loot total.

high level walls makes an attacker think twice before attacking,the max level for walls at TH8 is level 8 walls ( skulls). My advice is to put your 4 builders on defence and keep 1 open for walls.With lvl 8 walls, rarely a TH8 and premie TH9 will attack you.

Thank you for all of your input, I am now keeping a builder free for walls and dumping extra gold into them. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I edited my post with a screenshot of my base, is there anything else I can do as far as design or what to do with all these defenses upgrading?

Your base looks nice, just one thing spread the buffer buildings, this make it difficult for attackers to direct his troops and the extra space gives your defence few more seconds to kill incoming troops.

And use BARCH to farm, fill your 3 barracks with archers and 1 with barbs.mass drags is costly and takes a lot of time to train, with BARCH you can hit every 15 mins (without boosting).however if you want to boost while farming with BARCH, boost 2 barracks one with archers and other with barbs,fill the other 2 barracks with archers.this way you can save your gems.

Abhilash94, thanks for the advice! I have moved my buildings out and am going to try BARCHing. I have never really been successful with that strategy. I was going to wait for lvl 5 troops. I had mass drags in the screenshot for a revenge attack on a TH9. I usually use 12 giant 10 wbs 35 arch and the rest gobs.
