Just curious what everyone does in the mean time? Chat with clan mates, screw with ppl in global, mess around with base, check out past defense battles etc... Or maybe you just log..
Also, sometimes I have a sheild that I don't want to get rid of since I can't be on for too long, but I really want to play! Do you just play anyways and take the chance of losing resources on a defensive battle since your logging off anyways after one or two attacks? Sorry if that dosn't make any sense.

If you want to keep the shield, yet continue playing, work on the single player campaign.
The work that they're actually paying me to do while I sit at my desk... :)
I close down the app, go on YouTube or the CoC forums to waste some time.
Also, I always break my shield when I want to play. Most people can't even take 1 storage or only go for my TH, so I'm not afraid of people raiding me.
Personally i dont care even if i waste the shield for a single raid, cause i am confident that my base wont lose much even if attacked. Might even get some nice defensive replays for me to improve my base and a vid for my youtube chnl.

As for shields, I ignore them and raid when I'm on.
I always break shield too, I'm just too impatient for waiting. If I log in to play, then I'm playing whether I've been attacked or not.
But I can see why some keep the shield. Say you have 3 mortars upgrading at once? Might be a good idea to wait it out if you want to keep that gold you're storing.
But ... you can raid as much in the mean time.
I play this game while i get a spare 5-10 mins or while i am waiting for people/queues/flightpaths on warcraft. i tend to do a couple of upgrades, a raid and set my troops building again then put it back down for an hour/day/whatever and let my troops wait for me :) .
My 10 year old son manages to play this game for hours in one sitting, he half plays on his DS while he waits for the army to build.
I dont worry about breaking the shield, I pick up the game when i want to play it, worst case i get raided again lose some gold and elixer (most get <20k) which is well worth the 10 mins of enjoyment i had from the game that sitting. My son looks at how many resources he has, what builders he has free, if it doesnt look like he will get more than a couple of raids in before capping resources and he has no builders to spend it with he will leave the shield up and stop playing.

He takes it very seriously, i came home from work yesterday to 20 pieces of my wall upgraded to level 6, 2 gold mines upgraded, my healing spell being researched (i dont use it but oh well), 400k gold and 800k elixer, when i left i had 50k of each. his builders were busy so he played on mine, he said he didnt want to take down my defences by setting them to upgrade in case someone stole my stuff while i was out XDQuote:

YouTube and preparing piano videos for uploading, managing a Harry Potter Twitter account (with 274 followers!), working outside, running a mile a day, and working a part-time job.
To be honest, I don't play the game much any more and the forums are getting a bit dull for my liking...
When i'm waiting for my troops to train, i build up my muscles by lifting weights and start asking questions regarding whether other people are capable of lifting heavy stuffs, ending each question with the word "brah".
Then i join random clans, ask for elder, and kick everyone from their clans.

I do a variety of things, might watch a tv/series/anime show on my computer. Also usually play a different game, usually on my computer. Of course I do other things, but when I do anything besides the things stated above I am usually not very serious about attacking everytime my army finishes.

I just go onto youtube to watch any videos my subscriptions have put up. For shields however, if someone stole a good chunk of my resources, gave me a losing shield and all of this happened pretty recently(about 1-2 hours), I'll quickly check if I can revenge the guy and get some of my stuff back if his loot is good and drop my shield just for that no matter what.
