I'd always advise to do this only on revenges...
I mean, if it's a TH10... okay, he gets probably not as much as you got off him, but he could steal quite a lot of your other resources - and at least I wouldn't want that to happen. Hehe.

Best thing to combine this with is sniping exposed THs. Works perfect.

Take archers or so to take out the TH, then go for the drills. I wouldn't go for the drills first since you might trigger a CC that could hinder you on taking out the TH and losing the battle.

Zap or use balloonian if you if you have lvl5 loons and lvl3 minions. Look for a raid of 1,000 de (I find many th8 with 1,000 de in crystal 2) then balloonian.

if you are working on de, make sure your gold storages is depleted and used up, having high amounts of de and gold is asking to be raped.

nobody is willing to raid a base just for 500-600 de(unless you are very premmie).

10k is easy, wait till you start having to save for 40k as a th8(if you are maxing ur king).

Just go ahead and lightning spell Dark Elixir storages and spam barbarians and archers on drills. Worked for me, got a lvl 5 barbarian king in no time and every dark elixir troop upgrade done. (TH7)

go to crystals and zap the bases with more than 3k dark elixir loot.
