They do indeed cost dark elixir, you can find all the info on them here -> http://clashofclans.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Elixir_Troops
They are called as such because they consume DE's both for training and for upgrading.

Better to max out the other barracks before even bothering. DE is hard come by.
If you want to know if they are worth getting, I wouldn't get them first thing. They are not worth it. However in the future we might see useful dark troops.
NO DE troops don't cost DE
To buy and upgrade the barracks is with elixir, to buy troops and upgrade them is with DE.Quote:
