Archers overrated?

Whenever someone asked what troop to upgrade first or something to that nature, everyone automatically says archer. Why? I am in Town hall 7 and still have lvl 1 archers. Havent bothered to upgrade them. When i started playing, like 2 months ago, i searched youtube for some attack strategies. Again, i saw everyone using archers. So i gave it a go. The amount of disappointment was huge. No matter how many archers i put into the battlefield, they would die instant. Now im no noob and i know where to put them its just they are simply too weak, even en-masse.I have tried lvl 4 archers from my friend's account and that effect still applies. Probably fits archer since she IS the weakest troop (per troop basis, not per housing space) and the troop with the lowest health. Heck, even a suicide-type troop like the wallbreaker has more health than the archer. I find trophy hunting/farming raiding hybrid attack with barbs and goblins to be MUCH better. Goblins take, at least all the collectors/mines, and do about 20-30 percent to the base. Then, i send the barbarians to destroy buildings around the perimeter of the base to get that 50 percent. Also, the double elixir price tag than the other tier 1 troops/much costlier upgrades are a real turn-off. But heck, that is just my opinion. What is your experience with the archer? Good or bad? What do archers do for you guys that always finds room in your attack composition?

Archers are good because of their range, low cost, and low training time. This is why they are used so often in farming army comps

If archers are shielded by troops like barbarians and giants they pick off buildings in the back. They are also great to donate and get 50%.

You have no idea to use the most simple archer strategy or barch, and you are only th7, yes you are still a noob

a few giants for shields + over 45 lvl 6 archers = destroyed inferno tower set on single mode + loot (specifically DE)

Um, well obiously if you don't upgrade them, they will be weak. Uograde them to lvl 5 and use tanks (and destroy mortars first), then deploy them in mass but spread apart.

And if you see yt strategies with them a lt, obviously they are useful with them.

Best things in the game are range troops. Ones that shoot. They can clear walls and strike at a distance.

Arches are decent, only down side is the low health and they will stand in the very same spot and just wait for the mortar shell to come in.

not sure if this is a troll but archers are defo not overrated...

Archers are good with a tank in front. Either barb or giants.

In defense. They can shoot behind the walls and kill a lot of enemies before they can breach the walls

Find me an other troop that can kill a dragon?

If it wasn't for the air bombs, I would say minions is your kind of troop.

It's not that Archers suck, you just don't know how to use them properly..... you say you are but you're not.

Archers give me 4 million gold a day.

Archers keep my elixer keep my elixer storages overflowing.

Archers are under rated.

25% Barbs 75% Archers will change your world.

What do you mean overrated? There are people in my clan that use all archers as their permanent farming strategy and it works just as well.
There are moments when a mine is behind a lvl 7 wall. If you use just barbs and gobs and if there is a wiz tower near then its basically impossible to break the wall with that wiz tower 3 shooting your lovely goblins...

What do you even raid with then? And farm! Specially at th7...

they suck because theyre level 1 and your friends archers even though they are level 4 that was only once

Hp isnt the worse thing only. Their damage as well. 22 damage is garbage at lvl 6 no matter how you look at it. Mass of them or not. On the flip side, goblins are my favorite troop. They are the 2nd strongest troop in the game (per housing space basis). Only wizards beat them with 45 dps/housing vs 42 dps/housing of that of the goblin. To top it off, goblins have more health also per housing space with 60 vs 41 of wizards. If you guys have ever used pure goblins with a few wallbreakers, they will ruin bases with some well placed heal spells since it is obvious what is their next target. Another thing that goblins do much better than archers is surviving. I have lvl 4 goblins right now and they do not get OHKO'd by same max level mortars of th7, which is 5. I think you need lvl 6 archers to do that. And their speed is much to be complimented on. They dodge everything, bombs, giant bombs, spring traps, mortar shells which is one of their best counters. While archers supposably work better spread apart, I think goblins work better in a pack. Their dps goes through the roof even when they attack non-resources. That is why ive had more success with goblins than with archers.

With silly level 1 archers what did you expect? And you might want to upgrade them if you want to join a decent clan..

I will repeat again, i dont use my lvl 1 archers lol. I get to raid a couple of times with my friends account with lvl 4 archers. he too is in th 7. Hope this clears up the misconception.

goblins are good but not ranged

even though you raided with your friends lv 4 archers, you might have gotten unlucky a few times or bad positioning. and i know the post says that you had good positioning, but how would u know that you had good archer positioning if you hardly even use archers. also, have you ever heard of barch?

Barch starts to really shine with level 5 troops. Use your goblins all you want, archers are simply more efficient and versatile.

Yea, i probably positioned them badly but the stats and experience with the other tier 1 troops have been great. I dont think archers could change that. Im not trying to burst anybody's archer lover's bubble instead, i am asking what do you guys find extraordinary about them. I already saw about range. It is a pretty unique ability since only 2 ground troops can shoot over walls and thats about it. Oh and hit air troops. thats is all i think.

So do you have to throw in wb just to get collectors over one wall? Or do you just spam barbs there and let em all be useless once the wiz tower gets em.

Archers are fantastic, I only attack with all archers, that's how much I like them.

I think everyone has different strategies and different ways of thinking that will cause everyone to have troops they like or dislike. For example, I love goblins (once they hit level 5) but my fried can't stand them. I am not a fan of barbarians but I don't think they're overrated. I know I am not particularly good with them so I don't use them. I don't think there are too many troops in this game that are particularly underrated. I think Valks used to be that way but it seems the new AI has made them a little more usable.

I like archers because they're able to shoot above a wall, they don't need to get through them first. Mine are level three atm, I shield them with some giants and that works perfectly fine.

I don't think you can over- or underrate troops. I personally don't get what everybody seems to like about balloons, but I'm pretty sure that's a) because I have only lvl 2 balloons and b) because I don't know how to properly use them. I don't have minions yet, so I can't use balloonion. That makes them useless for me, but not for everyone else.

Archers are good for many strategies, like:

• Barch
• BAM
• BAG
• BAGi
• BAGiG
• Giant-Healer + BAW

They are also good for defense.

This is the only post from you that suggests to me that you might no be trolling. So here goes. One of the big benefits of archers are the build time. Yes Wizards have more HP and damage than an individual archer, but in 8 minutes you can build 19 Archers. An army of Barbs and Archers has a much quicker build time than any other army (obviously not BAM or other dark troop strategies).

For lowish THs the main defensive weapon is the mortar and WT. All melee troops will tend to clump and then your tier one guys will be massacred quickly. As a rule, when deployed correctly, Archers don't clump. (Except, for example, when you deploy them from a clan castle, when they clump and will get massacred too.) Mortars are still a danger to Archers--in fact in some sense more so, since a comparably leveled mortar will one-shot an archer, so a level 4 mortar will one-shot a level 4 archer. However, if you have a cheap Barb meat shield that takes the hits, your archers can relatively quickly take it down. Giants also work as a meat shield, but they are more expensive and their AI means that they can wander off after a defensive turret is taken down, and then your archers are toast. Barbs are cheap and target everything like Archers so are a better meat shield.

The main strategy with BARCH is to run a line of barbs down one side of a base and then run a line right behind of your archers. You are trying to deploy troops quickly so there is enough DPS to overwhelm all the defenses quickly, so it makes sense in most cases to two- or three-finger deploy your lines of troops. It also often works well to take out two adjacent sides of a base simultaneously in this way. By doing this the archers don't get one shotted and will take out the first line of buildings relatively quickly. Then they break through the first layer of walls and keep going. The difficulties lie when 1) your meat shield dies, so don't let it; and 2) when they clump up to go through a layer of walls. In this case save some reserve troops to deploy later. This is a particularly great strategy at TH7 and TH8 because by choosing the right kind of base you can predictably get a 50% one-star victory, and because you don't excessively next and your troops are relatively cheap, you can actually see your loot increase quite predictably.

This strategy shines is when you are doing the rare collector raid, or when there are storages in the outer one or two layers of a base. If you take a few WBs you can even break into quite well protected storages with some practice. The key is to learn how many troops to deploy. You need enough Archers to get a sufficient DPS to take down all the turrets before your meat shield dies. This takes experience.

There is a reason that many who know what they are doing use these strategies. Your posts imply that you are convinced that everybody else is wrong, you have discovered what they all missed, and that you are thus smarter than everyone else. Sorry to be the one to point this out, but sometimes when everybody disagrees with you, it is because they are right and you are not. If you were genuinely asking for advice, then perhaps your request could do with a re-working.

Having said that, the BARCH army on my alternate just finished cooking, so it's time to go save up a little more for that 7.5M elixir level 6 archer upgrade.

lets see... TH7 here... I love my archers.

Archer lvl4:

• 1 troop space.
• Distance attacker puts it out of range of some defenses while still hitting targets.
• DPS: 16
• HP: 33
• moves at 24... kind of like a fast walk or slow jog.
• not expensive, not the cheapest, but way less than a wizard.

Wizard lvl 4:

• 4 troop space. more expensive than archers.
• Shorter distance so it is usually in range of defenses, however, it has splash damage.
• DPS: 125
• HP: 130
• moves at 16... so a quick walk, but not fast.

Barbs lvl 4:

• 1 troops space, and cheaper than archers.
• must contact target, so these little dudes are like cannon fodder.
• DPS: 18 so more than archerS.
• HP: 78... the cannon fodder has on armor plating apparently.
• Moves at 16. so same speed as wizards, they cant dodge a mortar shell.

Honestly, the reason people like archers so much is because they are versatile. They augment any army combo well, they move decently fast, and they can do damage from father away, and over a wall.


Besides, TH sniping is sooo fun when the person thinks their TH is in range of the towers and cannons but archers hit it from the corner without triggering defenses. mooooowaaaaaaa.

Sadly, I do agree with this guy, chuy is too much in his ways/not open to new ideas. Just leave it.

I understand that shooting over walls and hitting air troops are big pluses. But I always carry a ton of wallbreakers (just to be safe/paranoia from my part) and they can always clear a path for my barbs, gobs or any troop. If there were no wallbreakers in the game, then yes, i would use archers 100% of my raids. I find the ability to shoot over walls like a small niche-nothing required imo. I rather carry tons of wallbreakers that would grantee my WHOLE army to advance rather than practically 2 troops. Oh man, and once the archers are ready to move forward, they all hit random walls. Just imagine, the troop with lowest dps hitting walls practically individually, its gonna take a while..... This still happens even after the recent update with my barbarians that i put relatively close and still go for different walls. Now i can imagine archers trying to push through a wall since the general consensus on how to use archers is to spread them apart. Eventually the archers need to move up deeper into the base.

is there anybody out there who is like me? That absolutely do not use archers whatsoever?

Large masses of Archer attacks is very good for pushing trophies and even getting loot occasionally if they are in range.

Archers are pretty powerful despite their lack of HP which is about the only down side to using them.

Did you read all of the OP, or at least all of the first half of the OP?

OP. I use level 6 archers with all my combos, but they are slightly overrated. In masses they're great, but individually they are not so good. Right now I do BAM and it's great.

Also you are not alone, one of the mods here used to use mass gobs for quite a while. I've never tried mass gobs myself, but I do use a giant/BAG army and I love the power of gobs on resource buildings.

Upgrade them ASAP, they are a big help. I had a few archers and was at 49%. The loss was a -30. I dropped it on an army camp and won.

Archers=Win Archers=Life

Raiding collectors will only get you so far - a good barch/bam strategy gives you the ability to open up some walled areas and get to stores.

its pretty easy to work through most of th7 on collectors (or at least it used to be) - that changed at th8 though.

What do you do if the base you're attacking has some balloons in the CC? From what I read you use melee ground troops only, those are screwed when air troops are defending

I'm just imagining him training a massive level 1 archer army, using them all on some random base, getting wrecked, and sincerely thinking that archers must be a bad troop because of this experience. At TH7 with level 1 archers... wouldn't you have enough time to upgrade all your troops evenly each town hall up to that point if you aren't rushing even if you don't really use them? I can't stand leaving my lab inactive :<

I can't think of any other cost and time effective troops that you can use if you are grind farming.

It's the only farming elixir troop that gives you range over walls, wizards are simply not time effective when it comes to farming.

I would like to know what army comp you use when farming that could do without archer. Only one i can think of is balloonion.

Never have I said that I used spells. If I did in one of my posts, then it was a mistake. All I was saying there that placing heal spells for goblins is extremely easy and effective.

Yeah archers are definitly OP.

No if anything a archer is a cheap mans wizard. And god wizards are one of the best troops in the game ( NO DEBATE THERE). Archers are only better due to less time and less cost. I love them <3

They die because they are lvl 1s. Ever troop is worth upgrading.

If you're archers are only level 1 you definitely need to upgrade them they are really good.

I thought wizards were terrible until I started using them properly. Now they're my favourite troop! Learn to use archers properly and you'll see how good they are

Are we suppose to believe this guy who just said to use heal spells but he said he never built a spell factory?

The simple point is goblins can work in TH7/8, I use them myself. But once you start attacking TH9s, your goblins will die so fast you won't even get 25% on a base, worse if collector and storages are further into the base. DE is usually smacked in the middle.
I'm close to maxing TH8, about 10+ days away. Try attacking me with full goblin and wallbreakers. I dare you.

it's because you don't know how to use archers hence you think they're weak. It's like something you don't understand means it's useless to you. That's called ignorance

They aren't. Even with the daunting cost from lv 5 to lv 6 archers.

U just have to know how to use them effectively. :D

They can be used for:

1) Sniping townhalls
2) Clearing buildings to make way for your deployment
3) Defending your base against attackers. I've had my CC full of archers take down an entire hog army! (refers to Hypnotica replay :rolleyes)
4) As troop reinforcements during attacks.
5) Used extensively for BARCH.

There are so many ways to use them! Just be careful not to send them to the mortar mash land. :rolleyes:

Another thing that goblins do much better than archers is surviving. I have lvl 4 goblins right now and they do not get OHKO'd by same max level mortars of th7, which is 5. I think you need lvl 6 archers to do that. And their speed is much to be complimented on. They dodge everything, bombs, giant bombs, spring traps, mortar shells which is one of their best counters. While archers supposably work better spread apart, I think goblins work better in a pack. Their dps goes through the roof even when they attack non-resources. That is why ive had more success with goblins than with archers.

Problem of gobs: they move in troops, so they're an easy target for wizard & mortar towers! Archers get spreaded in a line, so 1 mortar / wizardtower shot dont kills many of them. They also stay behind meatshields, goblins will just run in front of them...

The thing is for archers, they usually have to be shielded with giants and are more of a damage dealer than a tank. Also, how are you using them? Do you put them right next to a wizard or mortar tower, just to see them obliterated by splash damage? Spread them out. Archers are used highly because of their range, how they can snipe buildings with out some defenses shooting at them, and shoot over walls.

I always use tem they are just so nice

Mass Archers are powerful. And they are lost cost.

Every type of troop in this game can do wonders if used correctly and in the appropriate situation. Archers are (in most clans) commonly accepted as a donation, that's why you usually see a lot of descriptions stating a specific required level of Archers to join. As for attacking, if you are doing an all Archer raid, it's important to look at the splash damage defense levels. Whether or not the WT or Mortar will kill them off after a single hit plays a huge role in the outcome of the attack. For example, level 4 Archers can survive a hit from a level 3 Mortar before being killed off by a second hit. Knowing this information and learning how to use them properly is the key to having more successful raids. I farmed my base with just Archers well into mid-TH9. Good luck and hope this helps :)

This is either a troll post or you have no idea what you are doing.

I absolutely loved raiding with almost all goblins and a few wall breakers when I was at TH7, so much so that goblins were the first troop I upgraded when I hit TH8. Goblins are great, but archers are clearly not overrated, for all of the reasons others have stated above. I rarely use goblins at this point, though they're vicious little creatures at L5. Pure archers and barch have kept my storages overflowing.

Like a lot of these threads, can't tell if trolling or a complete idiot...

You are ignorant because it is almost surely the most used troop in the game and you can't understand why it is so strong. With four bullet points you should understand why they are so versatile and in practically every farming army.

-Cheap
-Fast training
-Ranged
-Decent dps/housing

Now think for a minute why these combined points make them so useful. If you still find them underwhelming, I can't help you. You also consider yourself not a noob as a th 7. Yes, you are a noob.

Noob for not using the same strategy as the rest of the people aka archers? Anyways,

-They are cheap considering the other troops but EXTREMELY expensive for a tier 1 troop. They costs double to train than the Barb and Goblin. Not to mention her lvl 6 research cost.....

-Fast training, yeah Ill give you that one.

-Ranged, yea also can give you that one since range troops are not that common in Clash of Clans.

-Decent dps/housing? I can say she has "good" or "fair" dps/housing, definitely not decent. She is right in the middle with a rank of 7 out of the 14 troops with 22 dps/housing. The other tier 1 troops are a bit higher, barbarians being rank 5 with 26 dps/housing and Goblins being at a whopping rank of number 2 with 42 dps/housing-almost double that of the archer and almost quadruple the damage if we are talking about resources. Goblins have 3 less dps/housing than rank no. 1 wizards!

I just dont get people recommending the BARCH when raiding for loot. Shouldnt it be gobs+barbs? I understand you can "snipe" buildings with archers but thats about it. Since storages have an insane amount of hp, i would think it would take archers ages to destroy-since it takes barbarians already long enough. And if you have seen goblins after they have taken down all the resources? They literally become a wrecking ball. They move extremely fast and will destroy anything in their path in a matter of seconds. Their damage is still insane even if it is not resources. Also, if a wall in the way of the goblins, they simply destroy it extremely fast. My lvl 4 goblins destroy lvl 6 walls in a matter of seconds if they are in a decent group.
