Upgrade them ASAP, they are a big help. I had a few archers and was at 49%. The loss was a -30. I dropped it on an army camp and won.

Raiding collectors will only get you so far - a good barch/bam strategy gives you the ability to open up some walled areas and get to stores.
its pretty easy to work through most of th7 on collectors (or at least it used to be) - that changed at th8 though.
I'm just imagining him training a massive level 1 archer army, using them all on some random base, getting wrecked, and sincerely thinking that archers must be a bad troop because of this experience. At TH7 with level 1 archers... wouldn't you have enough time to upgrade all your troops evenly each town hall up to that point if you aren't rushing even if you don't really use them? I can't stand leaving my lab inactive :<
I can't think of any other cost and time effective troops that you can use if you are grind farming.
It's the only farming elixir troop that gives you range over walls, wizards are simply not time effective when it comes to farming.
I would like to know what army comp you use when farming that could do without archer. Only one i can think of is balloonion.
