No point at all.
how about making it so when you hold your phone vertically, all it shows is the chat. It's not easy pulling out your phone and holding it with two hands horizontally, bad image. You get called out a lot too for "gaming" even though others spend the same amount of time snapchatting lol

Reading the posts there are a lot or requests for on-line statuses, posting multimedia messages etc. if you had a chat app it could be as simple as a community site (yammer features) we can have all the cool collaboration aspects (posting texts, videos, image, whos online etc.). (each clan would have its own ODATA feed basically to retrieve and post the messages, keeping things insync)
The likelihood of this being developed for the game is unlikely, but as a separate app there would definitely be potential.
