Hoarding? Good or Bad? Joshokitty explains.
Hoarding is a common mistake made by newer Clash of Clans members.
For a little background about myself, I never achieved too much in defending or attacking until I became a strategist. I wasn't either defender or attacker. I had to think of ways that would support each other. I moved on to be a good attacker with the main strategy: Ring around the rosie. That's almost always a win... but that's for another thread.
Hoarding is a great strategy for TH 1-2 but after TH 3-10, there is nearly guaranteed a mortar waiting to kill your hoard.
Example: You have 20 Barbarians and your army camps are full. You are ready to go attack. Your opponent is a Town Hall Level 4 with a lot of loot and a mortar in front of the Town Hall. His cannons are side by side the Town Hall as well. No Archer Tower and the walls he had were to the side, mainly used for decoration.
As you can see, we have a pretty stupid TH 4 opponent with us.
But what the Chief did in this case, was stupid-ER.
He tapped his finger right next to the gold storage: all barbarians unleashed. He got a little loot but in less than 2 seconds the mortar throws its shell, collapsing on all your barbarians and you lose.
Hoarding is a common strategy with newer players, as it works significantly. Cannons and Archer Towers (beginner defenses) have to take out one at a time which makes hoards hard for them if they are overcome.
Around TH 3, beginners have to break out of this habit to face the challenger: mortars. Hoards are extremely vulnerable against mortars of any level because they have splash damage and are really strong.
In this case, or in any case, "ring around the rosie" (a very popular strategy that combines archers and barbarians with goblins or any other troop) strategy works best. It confuses all mortars. Every troop is separated from each other with other defenses coming down at it. The mortar doesn't know where to shoot because everyone is separated. The mortar fails to recognize hoards and is forced to shoot one by one like a cannon or Archer Tower.
How "ring around the rosie" works: You see a base. You hold your finger down, deploying troops all around the base. Slowly, your troops will destroy the outskirts of a base and start homing in as it destroys anything it sees. This is a habit to get into around TH 3+.
Hope this helped,
