I'll try this in the future. I wouldn't mind saving the extra 25000 elixir if this works out to be just as effective as 10.

Take out the sides and send the rest up the middle, or some combination of that. At th8 (with only 3 spells) use zaps. If you have th9's or 10's in your clan request lv6 loons or lv5 hogs and make sure you have 25 spaces, sick them on an AD if you can or deploy loons with 1 or 2 drags on one side. As suggested run 8 or 9 drags and supplement with your best troops.
CW's lets you plan an attack, so plan and attack, if you fail adjust.
Good luck.
Thanks for all the advice. I guess the 3 lightening vs 3 rage is the great debate. But I did get some good tips on placement. I like the idea of putting one at each edge first to clear building, then more in a line, getting denser toward middle , perhaps following up with a single dragon headed to TH. Sounds like its not necessary to lure clan castle.
I am upgrading my dragons from lvl 1 to 3, its just such a drag that it takes 17 days...
Well, you can't farm with dragons.
So until I got into clan wars, I saw no need to upgrade them. I focused on Archers, Barbs, Giants, and wall breakers.
And in TH7 without a dark drill hogs didn't seem to useful.
But now that I am warring a lot and at TH8 I have upgraded the dark drill to lvl 3 I have some catching up to do.
First of all, just use all dragons. Mixing air and ground is silly because you then allow your enemy to use their entire set of defenses against you instead of just their air power.
1. All rage. Heal is useless against air defenses as they do damage faster than the heal spell can replace it. Use rage spells when dragons get close to ADs.
2 & 3. Placement and timing : The first thing you need to realize is dragons are stupid. They will go on a merry-go-round ride around the base if you don't make sure you make a path to the middle for them. So what you need to do is pick a side where you can get at least 2 ADs down and drop 2 dragons to take out the building that are on the outer edge of your attacking zone. Once those buildings are close to being destroyed drop all of the rest of your dragons in a line between the first 2 dragons. This will ensure they go to the core instead of on the merry-go round.
4. There is no need to lure CC troops. The CC troops actually help dragon raids by pulling your dragons to the core.
Good luck.
