You shouldn't really be hogging as a TH7 anyway as you don't have the drill, or an ample supply of DE really. Hogs also really aren't even that great till lvl 4.
Update hurts them a bit (although much needed). Hogs still viable but you need to be more strategic and only use them on certain bases (compact, not wide open ones). Lvl 1-2 hogs are pretty much useless in war and should pretty much never be used.
Mass drag is the way to go for war, hands down….I agree with others.
Drags also take some degree of skill IMO, as it's pretty hard to 3* well upgraded air bases, or bases designed around splitting the drags around the base while the central AD's pummel them. 1 star is pretty much guaranteed when dragging, but not always 2 or 3 depending on the base.

My clan and I have been having some luck with using hogs to compliment dragon raid.
The way I use hogs are to gain access to an easy to get to air defense (put a test hog out to trip any giant bombs). Then use lightning for the other air defense, then let the dragons wreck the base. This strategy will 100% any TH 7 and most TH8 with an "exposed" air defense.
If you are using this strategy on a TH8, you will want to ensure you use three lvl 4 lightnings on the most powerful air defense or the one most centralized/protected. One air defense will not take out all your dragons.
Like all strategies, this will need practice. Don't use any less than 8 hogs.
