New Heroes make jumping to th10 a no-brainer?

Wanted to pose a quick question (which may have been asked/discussed in length elsewhere).

I play when I can. That generally means a few raids a day, the past few months approx. 1.5-3m gold per day and a few hundred to a few thousand DE. When I am tired and want to veg out or if it's a weekend, I can put in more time and raid 4m-8m per day along with a good helping of DE.

I am a maxed defense TH9 as of the christmas boost. During busy times, this strategy has allowed me to wrap up research, finish Lego walls, and get my heroes to 15 BK / 17 AQ. My thought a few weeks ago was, jump up to Masters and raid the ♥♥♥♥ out of DE, bringing heroes to as far as I could stomach it before I got bored and doing lavas every 3m.

With the new Hero update, and just finishing 17 on my AQ, I feel like SuperCell is continuing to force us to move higher and higher with these last few updates. My BK/AQ blows. Seriously. Sure, the AQ's ability pumps out some serious damage, and I historically used them well - pick off a few mines/buildings at the end of a raid, or use them full force to get a juicy target while BArching. The BK now mows through a fraction of what he used to.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no reason/incentive for me to continue to stay at 9. Bringing them each to 20? Who cares. What will I gain except an arbitrary number by their heads. The damage gain is minimal and the ability gain is the same. Plus I can save/loot DE much easier at 10 since its all from 9's and 10's anyway. Lava walls? I'm not getting hit by anything but hogs, dragons and loonian anyway so what's the point? I will upgrade them as I can at 10.


Yes this is a bit of a rant, but I am curious if there are others on this forum who had the same plans as me and have altered their decisions after the last update. It's a shame that they have changed the hard work and end goal of heroes so drastically. I, for one, am not a huge fan.

I'm still gonna stick with my plan. Both lvl 20 heros and all lvl 9/10 walls. The update doesn't bother me :rolleyes:

I am a much newer th9 on both accounts, but I feel you. I no longer care about maxing heroes. I see no reason to stay at Th9 once my lab is dry. I might go up once my last pink upgrades are done. I want full legoes but I am not sticking around for them when th10 has so much to offer.

My defenses will be maxed in a month or so. I hate having idle builders, at least more than one.

I hear that now, but you have quite a ways to go on those Legos.
Wait 'til you're finished with them and then let me know what you plan on doing.

I found it somewhat difficult to raid DE/upgrade heroes in conjunction with walls. Maybe it's my farming style, maybe I'm just a terrible farmer. When the gold was available, I took it. When the DE was 1k+ I took it if it was close. When the DE was 2K+ i typically raided for it.

I think the higher your Heroes go, the more you will realize that the update does in fact bother you. Level 0-10 you don't notice much of a difference. I was just starting to see the power of my AQ and BK when they changed the entire formula.

I can't imagine sitting on a max TH9 for 7 months doing heroes and walls. I upgraded with mainly legos and level 15/15 heroes. No regrets.

I would upgrade. Walls are mainly aesthetic and your heroes can be upgraded anytime. If you like to clan war or trophy push you'll have more fun as a th10

I too have maxed def, 12 BK, 15 AQ, a mix of 7/8/9 walls.
When I saw sneak peak, I decided to upgrade to TH10 immediately. Because there is not much reason to continue grinding those walls and heros any more.

I do however love this update. I respect a game company that is interested in doing balance update and is not afraid of making unpopular decision. Sure the heros might be over-nerfed but that is another topic to discuss on. I think we can all agree that heros are overpowered... It's so dumb when you see videos from Chief Pat playing using his nose and feet and still able to pull off a win simply because he got level 40 heros.

It seems to be the popular decision, and one that I will likely pursue this week.

I 100% agree on your second point. It has changed the game for sure and appears to be unpopular at best. I think what makes me a bit tired of SuperCell's update history is what Facescraper brought up in the General forum: they have only boosted hero abilities over the last 1.5 years. Why nerf them now? Why continue to increase their strength only to nerf them in the future.

The conclusion that I have come to is that I really don't see the payoff for specifically raiding for DE anymore. Upgrade and get the extra drill, prey on 9's with 20 extra troops and further research upgrades.

Yeah. About 2 months ago I'd say To stay TH 9 forever and finish heroes and level 10 walls. But now it seems simply doesn't worth it. Once the level 9 walls finished, I'm not going to do anymore farming for heroes. I'll flip a coin to go either TH 10 (with whatever hero level I got at the time) or just quit.

Wait, your heroes can only go to lvl 20 at TH 9?

This. how can you sit on idler builders for 7 months and farm 1.5-3m a day and not have close to full lavas and max heroes?

I'm not sure if the update makes a huge difference either way, but yeah, sticking at TH9 just to max walls and heroes is not my idea of fun... jump to TH10 asap, you will find a lot more fun things to work on and you can certainly fit hero upgrades into the mix all the way.

All you'll be delaying, is maxed walls, as while you can do some walls early on at TH10 after a while you'll settle into a rhythm where your ad-hoc raids get you enough gold to keep your builders busy but not much left over.

But it's a heck of a lot more rewarding saving for defense upgrades, than walls, IMO (e.g. would you rather have a level 3 inferno, or 8 pieces of level 9 wall....?) And you've got loads of good lab upgrades to get done at TH10, more army camp spaces, a bigger CC,...

Personally I upgraded to TH10 a few months ago, with nearly all the lab work done, walls level 8 and level 9, heroes around level 15, and all defenses (incl. traps) maxed. It's been a good ride, my defenses are now nearly maxed (about 6 8m gold upgrades left, and a couple of traps), most of my lab work is done (a few still to go), and my heroes are level 20/22.

At TH10, especially once you are a month or so in and have your army camps maxed, your new DE drill getting there, and infernos up and running, it is just so much easier making loads of DE. Sure, a TH9 can go to Masters / upper Crystal and farm loads of DE. But they get wrecked on defense, so it's a chore for those with extreme dedication. As a TH10, you can sit in M3 for ages before getting attacked, until your DE gets to as much as 100k. Even sitting on over 4m gold, I can still sit for hours before getting attacked, if my DE isn't really high. I hardly ever farm for DE, my regular gold farming gives me enough DE to keep at least 1 hero on upgrade 24/7, and enough elixer to keep my lab busy (sometimes I just chuck the elixer stores out, to get more trophies and for a laugh). Farming at TH10, at higher trophies, is just so much easier, because defense is so much easier with infernos.

And yeah, level 20+ heroes are still quite weak now, at least for farming purposes - not so bad if you send them in to die as part of a huge ground army with full spells...

I probably average 1.5m a day based on the math. I think I wrapped up defenses mid January. 6 months later * 1.5m gold = Maxed walls, traps and nexting. Heroes went from 10BK and 5AQ to where they are now.

This was the best post I have read re: this question to date, and I have read a lot of "Upgrade my TH" threads and even commented on them myself in the past. Very great insight and well thought out. I will certainly be heading your advice.

Honestly if I was you, I would go to Th 10. When I first got to TH 9, my goal was to have at least level 20+ Heros. But right now, if I max my def and have at least 80% lego walls.. I will go to TH 10.

Pretty much the same dilemma as me. Almost maxed TH9 defenses with 15/15 heroes and all legos.

It's splendid, then. Up to TH10 ;)
