The age old question

Greetings and yes, I must ask this question. Should I upgrade my townhall?
Now before everyone tells me to max everything and anything and leave no stone unturned, consider my circumstances. I have no intention of upgrading now anyway, but I am considering not maxing every single thing. I know the advantages and disadvantages etc etc but I would like some players who have already gone through this process (th9+) to share their experience.

It appears to me that at th9 you get a great many more things to use - the famous level 6 balloons and giants, xbows, queen etc. I currently BAM for money, and I'll be able to max my barch and add another level to my minions.

The question is - is the loot that much worse to make maxing entirely worth it? Especially since I've come to a decision that its almost impossible as a th8 to not get stomped by a th9 who knows his stuff. Is this the case with th10 vs th9, even with farming armies?

I must say loot is better in TH9. I am currently using Barch rather than BAM as I have maxed my Gold waiting for the next free builder saving up for Valk 3 and AQ 10. On 75k DE. 220 troops Witch2 with Hog5 combo is my new adjusted Hogs strategy. If you are patient skipping you should find 200k gold/elixir per raid or 1k DE per raid depending on what you are saving on. I am at around ~1800 trophies.

Definitely dont upgrade yet. You say that one reason to upgrade is to get lvl 6 giants and loons but yours are only lvl 4. You cant even get them to 6 yet! Also saving up enough lix for early th9 upgrades with defenses not even at th8 level is really difficult. Cannons and archer towers arent that hard to upgrade anyways. I would definitely stay at th8 for a bit longer.

If you want to be under developed and destroyed by th10s, yes. Your builders will be busy getting new buildings and no time for current upgrades. You will be overwelmed with so many upgrades to do. Get all skulls and max def before upgrading, won't take much longer at your current position with 5 builders.

Additional question - how do th10's bully th9s? For me, th8 vs th9 is quite obvious, since those giants are boosted by an incredible amount, and barch lv5 boost seems to be the difference for me between th7 vs th8 but I cant figure out how th10s bully th9s with just 20 more space..?

well first off th9s dont have inferno towers (best defensive unit) and so large armies designed to get 1-2 stars against high level xbows, heroes, and inferno towers absolutely destroy th9s. Add in the fact that they have lvl 5 pekkas unlike lvl 3 at th9, and 5 spells avaiable instead of 4 makes it hard to defend against things like gowiwi and gowipe.

But if you're in a th9 farming range (1800-2000 for example) isn't it quite unlikely that you will get gowiped or gowiwi'd? I see you point, of course a th10 can steamroll you if they wanted, but the chance is quite low isn't it if you're not pushing? Or do th10's tend to just storage raid th9s?

Max everything out

get your archer towers up at least 1 lvl and your air defense maxed since your splash damage is maxed you seem good enough to move up now if your really want to

Any higher TH can destroy a lower TH with the kitchen sink. The reality is at your farming trophy range expending those troops is not a profitable raid... The whole idea of farming is that you farm a long streak for profit. Even if I get 3* 100% losing 350k 350k 2.5k to a TH10, I am really only 2 Barch raids away from breaking even. If you farm less than twice in a row a day then there is no helping you really...

I would upgrade - I moved up much, much more premmie than you. In fact, many aspects of your TH8 base are better than my TH9. There are a few key advantages of a TH9 that make it a much bigger jump than 8 is from 7

1. You get the AQ
2. You hit eng-game positioning on #/qty of many key defenses (walls, WT, AD, teslas)
3. all troops are unlocked so you can run any mix/strategy you want
4. xbows

I find TH8 boring and much too similar to TH7 to stay there. Going to 9 exposes you to 10's, but honestly as a weak-ish TH9, I can wreck any TH8 out there with a gowipe. The only think you'll miss is farming off of good 7's, but depending on your league those may not even exist

When you upgrade you're town hall you can lose more in defence. If you upgrade premature then you are going to lose max resources more often than if you didn't. In my opinion you should always max out

How do you guys manage to lose more in defense? What is your farming pattern? Do you only raid once and log off? I really am puzzled...

I am at this same position. Only things that aren't maxed for me are my walls, a few cannons and my BK. It sucks

This is my farming log of the last 3h33. I have maxed my gold and elixir so I am only going for DE. I am by no means a great farmer. I simply fail to see how you can lose that much loot if you farm moderately well...

Yeah I'm a TH8 and I just boosted my barracks and got 4 mil of each resource in 3 hours.

U r good to go. I honestly think the pain at early th9 is to wait your barb n archer upgrade. Total of 24 days upgrade. Dem archers

As well as camps and spell factory... PAIN.

At least finish your lab and splash defenses, the rest i suppose could wait.

thanks for the responses guys, pretty interesting points. I do know I'm going to be at least researching my giants+balloons before I up to take advantage.

I think you should at least do all of your defensive upgrades and all of you troop upgrades. If you are patient enough do your walls and BK too. I maxed everything but walls, barracks, and BK and that worked out pretty well. But I still wish I would have done all my walls and more king upgrades.

When I upgraded to th9 I had about half level 7 and half level 8 walls. I didn't do another wall upgrade until everything else at th9 the was maxed.

I am a pretty active player. I average around 75 attacks per season and it has taken me about 5 months to max th9. About a month or so was wasted pushing though. So if you know you will be at th9 for quite awhile anyway why rush into it? Think long term. Its likely you will still be playing the game months from now, so eventually you will get to everything.

The level 6 troops are the biggest benefit of upgrading but if you are not prepared to pay for the lab upgrade and then save 7.5 mil for the archer upgrade and 5 for the giants, what's the point?

Now I am in the same situation again because I am almost done with th9 and about to go to th10. Walls and heroes are pretty much the only things not maxed. My walls are all level 8 and I'm not about to farm another 200mil to take them up a level.

I have been farming DE hard though to get my heros to 15(which still isn't really good enough) before upgrading. The more work you can do on heroes the better because they take forever.

Anyway thats my 2 cents. Definitely do those lab upgrades and all defenses. Hope this helps.
