New TH9 journal. Need help maxing ASAP!

Hey everyone,
My TH9 has stood shakily since the start of the 12th of July. It's been a whole day and I feel completely lost in regards to what to do next... This thread has been created in an attempt to be criticized, advised and monitor my progress.

I consider myself to have done well on my first day as I've been busy with work. Just to be safe I maxed my Town Hall 8 except for 55 purple walls. Now that I finally have more time to Clash, I aim to buy that final Tesla, reorganise my base layout, then grind upgrades hard!

As of this moment 01:53H 13/07/14 this is how my base looks:

Xbow's 1 & 2
Dark Elixer Drill
Laboratory Upgrade
Archer Queen
Wizard Tower
Archer Tower Level 4
Air Defence
25 Level 6 (Pink) Walls
Traps
Gold & Elixir Storage

Any tips on layout, what to do when and what to be wary of in the coming future will certainly be greatly appreciated!

So glad you started this thread. I have a maxed out TH8 and just clicked the upgrade button today. Please let me know your progress.

My plan is to step into TH9 with fully storages and go:

1. Archer Queen
2. Upgrade Lab
3. Upgrade all new walls to pink
4. One x-bow
5. Dark Elixir Drill

and of course chip away at getting the storages, archer tower, air defense, wizard tower, tesla, and extra traps.

Max out your new elixir and gold storages, keep your army camps upgrading constantly and try to do the spell factory when you will not be playing clash for a few days.

Prioritise on offense; you need your money making tools sharp to build defense.

Do you guys advise camps before x-bows?

I'm glad to have been of some assistance bro! Fortunately for myself I went into TH9 with a shield and pretty much max storages, so AQ, Drill, Xbow1 and Lab was my initial priority, followed by smaller upgrades, walls in between etc... I just want to build everything so that I can restructure my base layout. Personally, I went for both Xbows rather than camps as I like to have some intimidation factor, however once they finish, I'll allow a camp or two to develop.

I play every day, so spell factory won't be a priority from my perspective. xD

I agree, focus on my offence to be able to afford defences.
However, I will get the basics done now for my defence as I can afford it, then camps etc...

Currently builders working on Tesla, 2 Xbow's, Lab and in between chipping at small upgrades.

Now all 5 builders are occupied on longer term upgrades for a few days... I already did some, but now I have a camp upgrading - as was suggested before.

Tesla was completed, so I decided to randomly spend 4 mill on walls again. I'll have them all purple by tonight, then I can redo my base. With the spare builder, next I'm going to upgrade my Air Defense as I hate healers with a passion...

There was a thread about maxing town hall 9 a while ago. It was by a Unity alliance member who maxed town hall 9 and he said that elixir upgrades (camps, lab upgrades) and decent heroes (lvl 10-20 ish post update?) should be prioritised to maximise offensive power so maxing the rest of your base would be easier. I can't seem to dig it up though...

Prioritize offense and new buildings like everyone has said. However, let your available loot dictate some of your upgrades. Don't let a builder stay idle for days if you have 5mil gold but only 1mil elix and you are waiting to upgrade a camp. Use that builder on something else.

My priorities were:

Lab
Spell factory
Drills
Camps
AQ
New buildings
Troops (did giants first)
New walls
CC

Yes, I'm taking all tips on board as I agree. I have made all new wals purple, finished Tesla and kept all builders busy.

Currently I have 2 Xbows from Day1, Lab and two army camps upgrading. Once lab is done I'll spend everything on giants hopefully, then upgrade new buildings.

My builders are not getting breaks.

If you are a descent farmer you will have a lot of elixir spieling out. I'm constantly running 2 elixir upgrades + lab research.
So my priority was:
Gold:
2 xbows (my clan started a war and it was nice to use those freshly started xbows on war map :cool: )
new WT , tesla , AT , AD and later some upgrades on those.
After I finished Xbows started to upgrade mortars (one at a time) and CC
In parallel finish the new storages - especially elixir. Archers cost 7.5M :(

Elixir + DE:
AQ -> lab -> AQ -> army camps and some more AQ as soon as you have DE.

I'm currently using farming ringus base and it is working like a charm.

dark elixir drills both upgrade try to keep them same level
archer queen to 5
level 5 dark barracks
level 6 archers
clan castle

i forgot laboratory also of course

I've changed my layout now, but will probably change it again in a few days time.

I've got college this morning in 3 hours... I'm not so well atm, so haven't been clashing, but I have all 5 builders busy still with both XB's, 2 Camps and Lab for 19hours. When I have a builder free tonight, Barbs for me will be upgraded first as I use them frequently to cheaply farm. The longer term 4 upgrades all finish around the 7th day. Alongside them I'll upgrade my AQ, then the WizT and AirD to level 2.

Next, on day 7/8 I'll have 5 builders eventually free so shall upgrade all new defensive buildings again and a drill. If I do manage to feel better and farm harder, I may consider purchasing comparatively expensive larger upgrades - Such as the remaining two camps or yet another drill. If I have the funds, I'd rather prioritize spending to improve my attacking capabilities.

I think my full resource start and not rushed town hall has really aided my progress. Even for someone currently spread thinly and lowering activity temporarily, I consider myself to be doing very well over all.

Things came up worth my time more than Clash, however I do have the WizT upgrading and Barbs in my lab. In the future, I will either upgrade Archers or Giants next.

Anybody have any tips on what to upgrade next?

I'm really surprised when so few people fail to mention your clan castle. Upgrade that next for sure. Besides heroes, it's the ONLY building that helps on offense and defense.

As far as what troop to upgrade, giants get a huge boost, but now they kind of suck with heroes being unlurable. The king just w♥♥♥♥s the ♥♥♥♥ out of them once they get to the middle.

Also, make sure you get your queen to lvl 5 as soon as possible. She really helps in every aspect of the game and it's imperative to have her ability.

Also: find a base design that has your CC unlurable. It's the best defense you have.

I have been a th9 for a solid week now and the change is pretty dramatic! Later on tonight I'll post a large update including new base design, what I'll do next and some awesome battle log screenshots. :)

I enjoyed reading this and have gained some knowledge as I will be a TH9 in 3 days.

TH9 is a blast man. Looks like you are on the right track and been given some good advice. I have been TH9 for a little over a month and am loving it.

Lvl 6 Giants/Bloons are two best TH9 upgrades for me so far. Doing lvl 2 witches currently.

Day 9 TH9 - Defense like a beast!
Defending is a challenge to say the least... Especially when you have 6 million gold, yet 5 builders busy... Deciding what plan to use was horribly difficult for numerous reasons - such as buildings being created, timing upgrades and adjusting storages. I'm not too sure where I stumbled across my base design, but twas love at first site. Yes, I've been battered by major attacks stealing 500,000 at a time, but every now and then I'm seeing great improvements and massive mistakes! <3

Here's a beautiful log of defense from today; displaying 3 consecutive times that I've been proud to share how my initially shaky TH9 is maturing like a fine whiskey. :D

To be perfectly honest, as expected, to begin with I didn't focus enough on upgrading my camps, troops and spell factory for maximal offensive potential. However now with the aid of my AQ and 10 more camp space, the difference is obvious!

Yes, as from ^above^ you can tell that the loot hasn't been as impressive as TH8 due to the loot penalty. Currently I'm farming dark elixir mainly, but may have to move slightly higher up that 1630 trophies for it. Either way, I'll keep upgrading offence in between and it'll only improve. :)

Shall I keep my base layout as a secret?
Or shall I type it out later?

Day 9 TH9 - Base Layout & Upgrades

Alrighty, where to begin with this one...

Base layout: For myself structure came with minimal effort or research. I was very fortunate to find something I wish to stick with on my first major swap around. Depending on many variables, positioning of some defenses and storages alter accordingly, below is the first real screenshot of my current work in progress. I am a huge fan of the solid funnelling, intimidation factor, results and spread of my village.

I listened to @smiles about the Clan Castle upgrade. Although it does cost 5 million gold, I firmly believe I won't regret waiting a week for that in the background. Alongside that from an earlier suggestion I have my spell factory upgrading. To be perfectly honest the idea of wasting elixir on mastering a Jump+Rage+Heal combo seems wasteful, but too tempting to resist! The shorter upgrades currently are the new AD, AT and WT. Once I have a builder next up is most likely the AQ.

Hey, I joined you at TH9 today. My base is a mess right now. Kind of a pain in the butt having to deal with a base design and a war base design (where the xbows and everything are already operational).

I did decide to out of the gate go:

Lab upgrade
BOTH Xbows
Archer Queen
DE Drill

and of course working on the Archer Tower, Air Defense, and Wizard Tower.

Don't even have a builder free to upgrade my walls yet... :(

Trust me, focus on gold upgrades. When you are in the late stages of th9 you will be sitting on full elixir storages all the time. Hero upgrades should be constantly going so when you finish maxing defences and lego walls they will be combined level 40+

For DE farming, 2300+ is an easy farming range and awesome for dark elixir.

You're correct to a significant extent and it's taken me this long to even realise...
Just like TH8, further on I will constantly be sitting on a load of useless elixir...

For the time being I shall continue purchasing mainly gold upgrades, however I do wish to finish the remaining two camps and drills with time.

How many builders do you have? If you have 3-4 you could do your lab queen and save 1 for your new faster upgrades. That was the same plan that I had at th9 just had xbows building at once

I'm glad I have 5 builders.
If I had 3 I'd begin with instant and very fast builds like AQ, walls, AT. Then I'd start two big such as lab and Xbow and continue proceeding with the third builder.

Just my two cents.

Quick question for y'all.

In what trophy range should a TH9 farm?
What if it's for dark elixir?
What if it's wall grinding?

What if in my scenario and considering eventually pushing to masters for them gems?

th9 farming range really depends on your xbow , AD and WT .walls do help ,1600-2200 range are easy for every th9.1600 being for the weakest and 2200 strongest(you can go higher up but you will encounter more th10 thus making you the weakest one especially 2500+ range)
dark elixir I find it easy in crystal 3
wall grinding is farming for level 10 walls because they are cost 3 million a piece. I wouldn't call level9 walls a grind because 1 million isn't that hard once you get used to th9 upgrades .my wall advice is that start them early on after your elixir upgrades you do 10 level 9 walls per week, this will help you alot as you won't need to farm them aggressively later on.if you plan to have high level heroes as a th9 then level 9 are a must

I have 5. I forgot you instantly get the archer queen when you first get her, so I went ahead and upgraded her to level 2 since my dark elixir with pretty full when I went to TH9.

My wife was out tonight so I sat down with boosted barracks and barched like crazy and nearly refilled my storages (gold and elixir), so I got the walls pretty close to all level 7 and went ahead and got 2 camps upgrading.

So right now I'm 3 days before a builder opens up, so I'll just have to hoard.

Deciding whether or not it's smart to get the lab going on Balloon6 or go ahead and be patient use that elixir on the last 2 camps.

(Don't mean to hijack OP's thread, hopefully he's OK with me letting me pace with him).

I would have upgraded Archers today, but well... I haven't really focused much on upgrading my new elixir storages, so simply couldn't hold that much elixir.

Either way, Barbs done, Giants pending, Archers next!

Yesterday my Elixir storage was full before the Giants upgrade so I spam donated in a REQ N ♥♥♥♥ clan. Today, my Gold storage is full until I have a builder free... I know I need to upgrade my storages to be able to afford archers, but I'm in love with my base design and have bigger upgrades to consider...

Idk what to do...
Soon I have a builder.
I have 6 million Gold.
Help?

Camps upgraded!

One dark barrack upgrading to witches.

2 days until Balloon6

Clan Castle done in 6h

AQ currently level 4

4th Elixir collector almost done do I can do archers and barbs next.
