Barch is mainly used for collector raids and attacking storages towards the outskirts of a base (inside the outermost layer of walls for example). The main pros of it are
-It's very cheap
-Quick to train
-Technically speaking, a high dps. 10 level 5 barbarians will do 230 dps, that's more than a level 3 dragon! And that's excluding the fact that you will have archers also attacking as well.
I've used it at TH8 for a while, and I love it. Saves a TONNE of elixir and time like you won't believe.
The barbs simply overwhelm and then the archers clean up the mess
I prefer Barchlins (1B:2A:1G) with 10 wbs. I'm TH9 with 220 comp. You can be a lot more versatile in this set up as goblins target resources and they out DPS barbs.
Most experienced Barchers can take out storages..... but half is luck and with wall level and hoping your troops go where you want them to. Biggest factor for me iis the enemies mortars and wiz towers....the higher level and more centered they are....the harder it is to hit the storages.
Usually: Spells.
For example, 1-2 heal spells can negate enough splash damage and allow your barbs to tanks and get towards the core, archers behind clean everything up. A rage spell can make it even more deadly. Your BK might help tank too, but is not essential. It's actually easier now, as barbs chew through the same piece of wall, so get through faster.
Alternatively, some people use 2 lightning to take out a mortar. But that usually requires targeting specific layouts, where taking out a single splash defense makes a big difference.
If you are really lucky, you can find a terrible layout where the splash is all lop-sided, and you don't even need spells, just use barbs and archers to take out the outskirts, then drill in with archers. Most often, somewhere in Crystal. But those bases are pretty rare now.
I've done lots of b-arch with TH7-TH8, both farming and clan wars, and it's certainly possible to get into the core, you just have to pick your targets wisely. Also, don't just dump all your troops down and expect it all to work out, you need to plan what side(s) to attack, how to deal with CC and hero(s), what forces to hold in reserve for a second wave, etc etc... Practice makes perfect.
This strategy is mostly used for farmers, if you are trophy pushing then use something else.
Here is a complete guide.
Batch is great for grabbing collectors if you use heal spells and rages. Also, the AQ is a big help if she is shielded by barbs
