Gripe about SOMETHING ELSE

By my count, 9 of the 15 most recent threads in the ideas and feature requests forum are about a second dairy. Do people not know how a forum works, or what? Annoying.

It's not necessary to quote an entire 5000 word post when replying to one point or just me-too'ing. My poor thumb is cramping from all the scrolling.

Any fresh complaints?

Nor is it particularly helpful to start a new thread just to complain about something happening in another part of the forum. If you think the complaint is worth making, it would be better placed in the actual thread of the the thing you are complaining about.

There is also report icon (!) at the bottom of each post that users are encouraged to make use of. If you feel a thread is redundant, offensive, or unnecessary then you should report it and a moderator will take a look and take action if they deem it necessary.

Thanks, Cheddar. More just wanting to vent than seeking solutions. Been on message boards of one sort or another for over 20 years. It is what it is.

I'm not compulsive enough about it to post in each of those threads. I think it's important enough to post in, at most, one thread.

If the mods would like my help in reporting everything I deem a duplicate thread, they have but to ask.

Well my gripe of the day is about people letting their dogs do their "business" on the sidewalk. Just got back from my morning dog walk and had to do some fancy footwork in a particular place. Thank goodness I was paying attention to the sidewalk, which I don't usually do.

Oh wait, that's not farm-related. OK, my pooches have better manners than to "go" on the farm paths while they're out keeping the animals in line and while I'm trying to harvest my crops and stack my machine products.

1) Most people must not be aware that you can use the quote BB Codes to put any text inside a quote box, like so:

will look (after replacing the 'k's with 'q's):

When you use the "Reply with quote" button, you can delete part of the original post. The remaining text will appear inside a quote box as long as it's surrounded by [kuote] and [/kuote]

Finally, if you want to include the name of the original poster and the link to the original post, you can put the user name and the post number like so:

2) Maybe the forum, when showing quotes, could use some javascript or CSS that would only show the first few characters, and a link or another element that would allow to expand the whole quote if desired. This would remove some clutter when reading threads, especially considering that many people could be reading this forum in mobile devices.
