You just resurrected my 2 week old thread. <_<
I don't understand this comment. Hogs are still very effective.
All the update did was make it so you actually have to use your brain to use them. They are still just as powerful, just require attacking the right bases and testing for traps.
Compact bases with not many spaces inside still get absolutely decimated, even with centralized royals. Pull that CC and let the bacon rip....especially if you can sniff spaces for double giant bombs.
Last war all our enemy did was use hogs....and they were VERY good at it.
And all I heard based on your OP and posts so far was, "I gave up using hogs after I spammed my lvl 1-2's and they failed miserably" and, "Lol hogs are useless now because my obvious DGB's on my inside protects me from idiot hog spammers."
Jokes aside, bottom line is proper anti-hog bases require more than just placing DGB in the center. If you don't have a proper anti-hog setup with an outer defense ring and they get to the core you are done. It's also pretty easy to pull central CC's with just one hog and testing for traps even with DGB's inside isn't too hard, especially if you have a wide open space where it's easily recognizable. At TH8 3 Giant bombs isn't really enough to stop a full on lvl 4/5 hog assault anyway which usually have backup giants, wiz and CC as well in addition to 27+ hogs.
Also, If you actually read my comment you would see that it was not my clan that used them at all....it was theirs. We have several maxed TH8's which are far from "crappy." I've also attacked maxed TH8s/9s with hogs and decimated them post update...so not entirely attacking crappy bases either. Again having the right setup is key (and yes that requires more than just placing a couple obvious DGB's on the inside).
Seems like you haven't faced an experienced hogger at all...just idiots who send a train of them in (on the wrong base I might add) and get decimated by bombs. It's also important to note that at TH8 you truly can't anti-hog well anyway due to less giant bombs and defenses, so it's a perfectly viable strat against most TH8's unless they have a very specific setup (and then that usually leaves them open to being demolished by other strats, Gowipe's, etc).
So as I originally said, using your brain and attacking the right bases is now required post update. You can't just spam them like a moron on every base and expect to win. If I see a base with a proper outer defense ring, lots of inside spacing, central royals and CC...yeah I probably won't use hogs. But if it's compact, uncentral royals, easy to lure CC, etc it's a prime target for a 3*.
The boost to giant bombs and unlureable royals definitely hurt hogs, no doubt about it....but they are still plenty effective in war or otherwise if used correctly. That is why it's good to be efficient at multiple strategies (GoWipe, bacon, Drags, GoWiWi, Loonian, etc.) You can adjust accordingly and hopefully 2-3* your opponent regardless of setup.
But honestly I don't even use them all that much. When I was a TH8 mass drag and GoWipe's were usually your best bet for war with hogs being useful (only if lvl 4+) mostly on compact bases with little inside spacing.
And if you do use hogs, if you're using anything less than lvl 4's in war please stop. They are trash and should pretty much never be used.
GoWiPe ftw! I've been using it for months and have only gotten less than 2 stars once. Its a guaranteed two star strategy against th8s. I found th9s to be trickier. Only problem I have with it is it is a bit difficult to three star but I think I may have found a way to make it easier.
Hogs hogs hogs
so many bad players using dragon spam, gowipe, or some random crud that barely gets 2 stars. anyone who isnt horrible at the game knows hogs or goho can beat any base. (other notable strats include: zapquake dragloon, govalo, govaho, holo, gohowipe/golowipe)
