I'm assuming you're TH7?
If, by using minions, you would lose DE and not gain it back, stick with barch. If using minions would allow you to gain more DE than you'd spend on minions, go for it. Just keep in mind that Barch has a much lower training time than balloons + minions.
I would wait until lv 5 loon at least. Except if you're only hunting TH 7 or lower guys, then probably lv 4 is enough
I disagree. I think if you are looking to get gold from storages and don't really care about DE, that you should ignore bases that offer 1000 DE and go for bases that offer 300k in storages. In the end, it's up to you OP. Keep in mind that low level balloons (lvl 4 and lower) will get torn up by air defenses, so try to have about 16 balloons, rest minions (more less depending on range) and have the balloons tank a little damage for the minions to keep the DPS at its highest. Rage minions near storages/TH to keep them moving.
I would stick to b-arch, simply because while it's possible to find some success with low level balloons and minions, I don't believe it's going to give you any better results than if you just stick to b-arch. My daughter and I tried it a bit, just for fun, and while we could get some 2-star wins, it was only against weak bases which b-arch could have easily done the same if not better against (especially if you are using spells).
In fact, I believe b-arch is about the best overall farming army up to at least somewhere in TH8, at which point you can afford to include minions i.e. BAM. It's also a great 2-star army for clan wars, if you want to keep it simple and affordable.
