It can be an advantage, depends on how you handle it.
If you upgrade them all at the same time, you're done. You don't have three periods with 2 mortars in which also a lot of clashers will take advantage of you. And if you keep your resources low after you log out, you won't lose that much and if you take into account a couple of heavy attacks the period of upgrading has flown past by before you even know it.
That depends on a lot of things, if you are planning on raiding a lot and want to end your shield early then you might get attacked a lot in between, if on the other hand you are going to take a bit of a break and are going to wait out your shields then it's not the end of the world if you get beat up a little along the way, it's the shortest time you will be with missing mortar fire.
I did 3 mortars at the same time and also did all 3 wizard towers at once. If you have your other defences decently leveled and stay at a low trophy count it isn't that bad. And it sure helps because you only have your splash upgrading for 6-8 days and then you're done for your entire time at that Town Hall.
I rather get taken 200k every day for 6 days than 150k for 2 weeks..
Just sit out the shields.... It will be worth it...
but i'd avoid doing this personally in the first place
I agree with the previous comments. I upgrade mortars and wiz towers asap, regardless of how it plays out (all my wiz towers are upgrading simultaneously right now, with the earliest being done the day after tomorrow). It just leads me to not attempt to save up large amounts of resources, which encourages me to build wall (don't care much about elixir anyway) which I need to do regardless.
Getting it over with counterbalances the short-term disadvantages entirely, at least for me.
When I was at TH 7 had 4 of my Archer Tower upgrading to level 8 at the same time and to be honest I didn't have any regrets and if I where to repeat that i would do it again without even thinking. :D

raid as much as you need to keep builders busy while the updates are running and it's a non-issue (no resources... rarely attacked/ th shield)

My Jr. account is currently upgrading 3 Mortars and 1 Wizard Tower at TH8. The reason why i did this is:
- Get it out of the way and worry about other things
- Whatever you lose, you will get back from a raid or two.
- It really tests our base layout. (So far mine's holding up quite nicely. There's the rare TH9ers that will come and lay down the hammer though but they are few and far between)
I rather upgrade 3x once at same time and my village is weak for a week than upgrade 1 by one and my village is weak over 2 weeks :) that is same for wizard tower! Go ahead if you can upgrade 3x at same time :)Quote:

I'm TH8 and did 3x mortar at the same time and would certainly do it again. I got attacked a lot, but was worth it to get them out of the way. As others have said, better to be weak for 5-7 days than for 15 days.
I'm currently doing all my Wizard Towers at the same time. I have them staggered about 2 days apart from each other. Teslas will be my next big push; I don't like saving them for last because I don't like the glut of long build times at the end of a TH.
It's a great strategy. Might as well take the beating now when you're poor and still beginning at TH8.
I did it. I am Th8 and needed to upgrade all 3 mortars to 6. So I was away for a long weekend, started researching a troop to empty my eilixir then spend all my gold on the mortars. Got attacked but they only got what was in the mines/collectors and the mortars were upgraded by the time i got back :)
Would do it again if I was in a similar position.
Its depend on your style, when you dont have much time to raid, yeah you can upgrade it but if you raid so much, dont do it because you will be attackk by many player and you will lost your resource..
for me, right now im upgrading all of my three mortar because i dont have much time to raid because of the business in real life..
Everyone could use a break from raiding every now and then especially if all your builders have week long projects. Just collect from mines and donate to troops while laughing at the noobs trying to raid you when there's nothing to steal from.
I love upgrading 3 mortars and the wizard towers at the same time. If I have a lot of resources left over, I would probably buy a week shield and focus on school more. Just allow myself to take a break from Clash of Clans. :P
If your other defenses are strong and your base layout is good, you should be ok.
If not, you're in for some defeats. However, I agree with the others here. Getting them all done at once, quicker, is better.
I've done two mortars and one xbow at the same time. Survived with minimal damage.
I think you should take into consideration how many hours you play, base design and of course how strong your other defenses are. Either way you will get raided, with of w/o mortars IMO
I would however suggest not to keep gold storages full while upgrading. But than again, if you play all day and make at least 1-2 mil a day, would you give 200k for a 12-16 hour shield? I would.
also, dont forget to put your TH outside the reaches of your defense so low level trophy hunters would give you an instant shield,
I upgraded 2 mortars and an xbow at the same time, yeah painful at times, but it was worthit
I'm a TH8 and I'm currently upgrading my 2nd and 3rd mortar to lvl 6 while also upgrading my 1st wiz tower to lvl 5. My base hasn't had many serious attacks because I spend most of my extra gold into walls. In 4 days I'll be ready to take on serious attacks! :cool:
Along the same lines of this thread, I am thinking about leveling both of my air defenses at the same time. I would obviously be susceptible to an all air attack, but that would mostly effect revenge attacks. Nobody farms with an air army.
I am currently TH8 with most defensive structures maxed or close to maxed. My anti air upgrades will be going to level 5 so that will take 7 days.
I plan on leaving 1 builder free to use for wall upgrades to try and keep my gold down. The OP could do the same thing if he has a free builder.
How many builders do you have? When I was maxing my splash towers I always upgraded them all at same time. It was a grind to collect enough gold late, but I did it. I have 4 builders. Always left one free and used excess gold to upgrade a few walls. Not once did I get attacked except for the free shield from outside town hall. Wouldn't have done it any other way
You'll be fine if you keep your trophies sub 1400 or so. I always keep free builder when I do major upgrades like splash or air to burn gold on wallsQuote:

I upgraded all 3 mortars at once and then 2 wizard towers at once when the mortars finished. I kept 1 builder free and upgraded all my walls to double purple so if people really wanted to attack me for elixir I didn't need oh well. They didn't get any decent gold though.
i'm currently a TH8 and upgrading all three mortars and a wizard tower right now. when i was TH7, i did one mortar at a time (and one wizard tower upgrade at a time).
there's such much variance in who happens to find your base and attack it, that i can't really say whether one strategy (all mortars at once) is better than the other (staggering mortar upgrades). for me, it came down to the fact that there are two wizard tower upgrades to do, and stringing 3 mortar upgrades with 6 wizard tower upgrades meant that i'd be weaker for almost two months.
it's just a gut reaction, but i think i'm happier being SUPER vulnerable for a short period, over having a weak spot for months.
pros and cons. It's something I'd only do if I was under shield for a day, or was heading away and couldn't play. You won't care so much then. When you're back, you'll have 3 juicier mortars and revenge will be sweet.
You will get destroyed while yet are upgrading but when there done you won't have to worry about them. So do it all at once.

You can only get attacked so many times between shields, and it's easy gather up any res you lose in that time. The days will pass.
