Just how far will I go?

What can I realistically expect? I'm a town hall 7, not a premature one either, as I come close to being fully upgraded before I advance my town hall. I work full time, but I put in serious home-time hours. Although I spent some real money so that I could have 5 builders, I have no plans on buying gems in the future. I plan on completing the single player game in the near future, and I plan on continuing as I have in the multi-player game, climbing through the ranks. At some point, I'll outgrow both town hall 7 and eventually town hall 8, so how far do you guys believe I can realistically go on the track I'm on?

I don't see why I couldn't one day hit 2,500 trophies without gemming, but I keep hearing about this seemingly impenetrable "wall". I'm intentionally keeping my trophies low right now because I believe it's needlessly difficult to forge forward when there's still so much to upgrade, as strong trophy hunting can only serve to inhibit the speed of my success.

Also, in addition to being curious about your guys thoughts on how many trophies I can one day likely get, I'm curious as to how far up the leaderboard my clan would go if others in my clan put in the kind of dedication I have put in.

There are no limitations in terms of developing your village- it'll just take a helluva long time without gems. I started before Halloween last year and I just reached TH9 from a fully upgraded TH8.

There is a certain point where you are better off defending to gain trophies rather than attacking (although you can still attack, it's just faster if your design/defense works). By the time you hit the 2,500 mark, you will have a tough time holding your position/going any higher.

My clan made it into Top 300 with non-gemmers and the bottom half of the clan farming :) We have another run April 8th

I don't think it will be possible to max out not using gems unless you started the really early. It won't be possible for me either. I am half maxed TH8. This is because supercell has to release updates and new stuff all the time or their revenue stream will die. Expect to see TH10, TH11 and so on in the future just like with similar games like backyard monsters.

Well it sounds like youre doing all the right things. If you keep it up, a maxed out th8 and th9 are possible of course :).

You can play as long as you are having fun, the moment it becomes a chore, a money gobbler : that is when you should think about quitting

From what you have mentioned, there is still a long way to go before that happens so stop worrying n start raiding :D

There are times when it's a bit frustrating, and I can't rightly say that having fun has been much of a motivation for my staying, but the progress I make in climbing the levels does keep my drive alive.

Development-wise, you're gonna be fine with 5 huts. Idle workers are a waste but having full storages and no free builders for days is just plain boring. As you progress, longer upgrade times will be offset by longer periods needed to farm resources. So take your time and enjoy the ride.

As for cups, I got as high as 2400 using only first and second tier units. No gems, just patience (though this was pre-level 6 unit days). Just got tired of operating at a loss of elixir. Have no idea how my defense would fare up there now that it's stronger.
