This is a good answer. I am in the exact same situation. I dont regret maxing, but now thinking back it probably would have been a smarter move to just go to 7. Like others have said th6 is a bit of a joke and th7 and th8 farming are top notch. But also like Zanzibar said to get too far ahead of yourself.

Max Town Hall lvl 6, it'll benefit you a lot.
Especially get those walls up to lvl 6

I max these things so as to optimise farming. Once those are max ( no need for anything else ), head to TH7. Why? Because you get the 4th barracks/army camp, adding to a total of 200 troop space!

Then max TH7. Everything at TH7.

This is what I did actually. Except the camps and ran but instead I threw in splash

Maxing it out will go a long way. A couple of 1 or 2 day upgrades at town hall 6 saves a HUGE chunk of time at town hall 7. I didn't max my town hall 6, and I am now not very far into th7 due to it.

I went straight to th7 because i wanted the barb king. I found the loot just as good.

So im thinking yup I will go to th6 and max it then go to th7. Whats a few more weeks or months??? Lol😈
