2 questions:
Thanks to you guys, my coins are increasing, and I've leveled I think to 18.
1. Tom now wants diamonds. Is it worth paying paying Tom to work for you? There's been a couple of times today when I am tempted to do it I have no qualms about extra diamonds.
2. Does anyone buy the extra spaces in the machines, like the third in the dairy farm?

1. Yes tom requires diamonds after his free use. But don't hire him now. Now spending diamonds on slots is more preferred.
2. Yes everyone buys slots. They are really useful. Things can be made overnight or while at work.
Oh max out your spaces/slots first always in your machines, especially dairy and sugar first. Then work out how long you are going to be away from your game overnight and expand other machines up to the time you are away. then you can go back to those machines later after you do your new machines and expand fully then your slots.
saying that my jam maker isn't fully expanded as I am never away that long.
others will tell you to max your feed mill immediately, I didn't as I was on all day and had no problem making, feeding animals but it should be one of the early ones you max out on.
Dairy needs the most slots first, then sugar. But, if you have another device, just make a second farm and feed its products to your main farm.
I work from home, 95% of the time. That's why I'm on my Ipad often, and can check it. Another farm? How do you make a second farm? What account do you use?
<some other game> isn't that fun any more..."Buy this pile f crystals" when I know other people who played it before me have a thing that makes crystals daily, and the game won't bring it back. I'm bored with <some other game>. I kept seeing Hay Day commercials, where the guy looked at the pig and said, "The pig gave me bacon" So I thought, "meh, <yet another game>." But I downloaded it, and it's nothing like <yet another game>. I love this game, and the support from this forum is beyond what I expected.
So when Hay Day stopped giving me diamonds per level, I bought them. Atleast I don't think it gives me diamonds per level.
Early on in the game, by far the best use of your diamonds is to lengthen your production queues. Give priority to the bottleneck queues (the ones on which other production machines depend: sugar, dairy, animal feed), then expand the others.

The OP has already used the free trial for Tom, and now that he is asking for diamonds OP is asking if it's a good idea, or if it would be better spent on opening production slots.Quote:

As you level up you will never have enough dairy and sugar products, trust us on this. So, filling up the queue with as many as you can is so helpful. This way your farm is still working for you while you are away.
I also suggest maxing out the production slots on the feed mill because you can sell off the excess for coins. Feed sells very well on the RSS. But, to be cost effective, it's best to just make extra cow feed. The price for cow, pig and sheep feed is the same but the production times are very different.
I make extra cow cow feed all day and I make goat feed at night.
I eventually maxed out the production slots on my bakery and popcorn maker. Bread and regular popcorn is also a good thing to sell on your RSS.
IMO, those machines are the only ones you should max out. That's assuming you are not away from your farm for more than 8 hours at a time. If you only play once a day, then max them all out.
Tom is such a great tool. I'm addicted to him.
Maxed out the feed mill, dairy and sugar. Started making more cow feed. Got enough planks through maxing out corn, I made my barn 175. Still needing wood for my silo to get it to 175, I think.
Bought the machines. Made enough in a day to buy the boat.
Sometimes I see question marks on friends profiles, but can't find trees or boat orders..hmm...I might hire Tom, I need saws and wood. And leveled to 21.
My ipad is next to me during my work, so I'm constantly checking my farm...frankly, I have no idea how I'll manage on vacation next week.
After a while, level 30 let's say, maxing the slots in machines are sort of necessary. When you are working and have a brown sugar boat that day you'll end up with the need of 27 brown sugar to get prepared. Even though I try to keep a stock of 10 for each sugar product (I'm lvl47 now) it's still a nuisance to prepare the rest. And I really really don't like to flag all three brown sugar crates, I'd like to fill at least two by myself. It's like saying "ha-ha I don't care about my boat at all so why don't you do all the hard work?" It's okay to do it every once in a while in events etc. but I have some friends who constantly flag dairy and sugar items, all three of them. And I'm sorry although I love helping and i care about that more than leveling up I am not going to help this time.. So if you want to be sufficient for your dairy and sugar boats you should open up slots. Actually your entire farm depends on them because as you level up there will be many products based on these raw sugars and dairy products.
About Tom:
Hiring Tom is one of the cheapest and most efficient ways to spend diamonds on. Besides after a certain level it's almost like a necessity. You really don't need to purchase axes or tnt etc if you don't exaggerate the use of smelters or, number of trees.. He will be enough to help you. What I do with him is let's say, there are four types of jam, I'll produce just three of them and wait till the other one runs out and use Tom to get me that one. Since I have less types of goods to prepare, it gets easier to keep up with my stock this way. Also you can use him to buy expensive goods and by selling them at maximum price you'll make coins :)

My boat unlocked last night (1 a.m.). I happened to be up. 76 wheat...about 4 times. I filled 2 orders, but went to bed. Got up this morning, and the others were filled.
I paid Tom for 10 days, before my vacation. Not sure about wifi in some areas. I agree, alot of boat orders I can and will do myself. I will do that cause I can, and there's points. I like to help other people too, cause there's thankyou notes to be received.
When I come home, I'm buying $20 worth of diamonds, and hiring Tom for 100 diamonds. I used him, like I needed a cake for a high paying orders and I don't have my cake baker machine just yet.
If you don't mind me asking, why are you waiting to buy the cake oven? I'd just buy the cake oven, instead of using Tom.
Difficult to understand why such a low level farmer should want to hire Tom's services for such a long term. I find it hard to accomodate even one day's loot from Tom in my barn, and I probably have a much bigger barn, and a mine. But it is your money, of course.
There are some useful advice threads for young farmers. About topics like focussing on making coins intead of trying to level up fast.
If you expect a midnight boat with wheat and some items which need to be produced overnight, you could make a lot more boat points if you'd close your game just BEFORE the boat docks and produce the rest of your wheat in the morning.

I just want to enjoy the game. I don't have coins for my bakery just yet I think I'm at 9,000 today.I'll get the bakery the moment I get the coins. The machines are my priority. I like utilizing Tom. I'm grateful for him.

The cow feed really sells. Every time I put it in my shop, boom, gone. I utilize Tom for boat orders.
The commercial, which wasn't very good, got my curiosity,and I downloaded the game,and ended up loving it. I don't get the second commercial at all, but I like the song.
