Drills don't collect during upgrading

Your clan castle still works while you're upgrading it, you can even add more troops after the upgrade has begun. Your storage can also be added/taken from, even when it's upgrading. This is just a game, there is no reason why collectors still can't collect when they're being upgraded.

Clearly. However there is a balance between what makes money and what is fun. Collectors not working while upgrading isn't fun.

Naturally I don't have any statistics to offer, but I'd be willing to wager that the vast majority of that income comes from players buying builders on the low end and players gemming troop builds and resources on the high end. Of course they also get a nice bump from the leader board whenever they release a new update.

If you simply work the math it should be clear that using gems to speed up a collector is not an effective use and as such, if we assume people aren't completely stupid (a stretch sometimes I know) it should be possible to reason that collectors are not a cash cow for Supercell.

Look at the last level of a gold mine or elixir collector. You lose 5 days of production at the level 10 rate of 2500 when you upgrade. That's a total of 300,000 resources. Now sure I could rush the 5 day production time at a cost of 753 gems. That would be mind numbingly stupid since I can buy 300,000 gold or elixir for 231 gems.

In fact, for 753 gems I can buy over 5 times that amount.

Similarly for the DE drill it takes 8 days to go from level 5->6 at a loss of 15360 DE. Sure I can rush the DE collector for a cost of 1123 gems. However I can buy 15360 DE for 743 gems. 1123 gems will buy me nearly twice that amount.

The one thing about collectors not working while upgrading is that it does create a higher contention for resources because it puts downward pressure on collector levels. People are disinclined to upgrade them even though it would be in everyone's best interest for everyone to do so.

Why people would gem resources baffles me.. Speeding up something so you have a builder free to spend the resources.. That I can see. Getting resources is much easier then waiting doing nothing for a couple days while your storage a sit full.

On topic though.. It works as intended and I do not believe it should change. Main income of de shouldn't be from drill anyways. It only helps

Just so we're clear, I wasn't suggesting that people gem resources. However speeding up a mine for the sole purpose of avoiding the resource loss, as the quoted posters suggested, is a terrible idea for the reasons I outlined.

If this behavior were altered, people would be much more inclined to upgrade collectors I think. That would be a good thing.

Ok we are on the same page, I wasnt sure since the whole math thing to rationalize buying resources was kind of crazy.
But I see now you were trying to prove your point.

Buying resources is probably the least efficient way to use gems in this game (except maybe healing your heroes).

Ie. that 300k take at most an hour to make, and your builder is still down for another 119 hour as, but only 4 times the cost on gems.

To prove your point more, none if my collectors are over 8. My drill is maxed for th8 only because I don't have anything else to spend the elixer on :)
