TH8 is way too difficult to play already

Yes I know I should upgrade my troops and I wish I can. But the fact is I cannot even get enough Elixir to breakeven my cost of battle.
Here are the breakdown of troop and cost for my typical battle:

wall Breaker L2 @ 2000 x 5 = 10000
Giants L4 @ 2000 x 5 = 32000
Goblin L2 @ 60 x 12 = 720
Archer L3 @ 120 x 16 = 1920
Barbarian L4 @ 80 x 56 = 4480

total cost per battle = 49120

Sometimes might need to spend extra 1 or 2 wall breaker so it's around 50,000 elixirs per battle.

I'm lucky to find even a player with 40k elixirs as loot.

I can't even collect enough elixir to upgrade my barrack, not to even mention to upgrade my troops.

I had no idea about the loot penalty before upgrading the townhall. It wasn't mentioned anywhere in the game.

This is inaccurate. Granted, the lettering isn't large, but it warns you each time you attempt to upgrade your Town Hall with a notification about the loot penalty for Town Halls below you.

If you have barbs and archers to lvl 5, you can easily get loot in Gold III and II. Raise your trophies. Your army shouldn't cost more than 35k to make, and you can find 100k+ elixir raids within a few nexts.

Just use 90 archers and 90 barbarians with 10 wallbreakers. Then go to around 1300 trophies and look for inactive bases, or easy bases. Deploy a few barbarians with archers behind them, and just repeat. Use the wallbreakers when neccessary. I'm almost a maxed out Townhall 8, and I've been using this strategy ever since I began playing CoC. Townhall 8 isn't hard. It's pretty chill.

I'm sorry but are you really ignorant? Tell us your trophy range, LISTEN to all the other suggestions that have been made and post a picture of your base.

Telling him to upgrade his troops is dumb if he can't get enough loot to cover expenses of his troop comp. why suggest that? I don't know how he made it to th7 period.

I suggest you youtube how to get a lot of loot and how to know if the loot is in the collectors/mines rather than the storages. Yu can easily get at least 100k of each resource just going after pumps if you know how to send troops in waves. Obviously if your 100 gobs got taken out in 3 mortar shots you're doig it wrong. You need to be patient and look for bases with their loot specifically in their mines and collectors because it will save you a lot of time and troops. A bunch of gobs can empty a collector in a couple seconds and on to the next one, where a mortar shot will probably be behind them. Gobs to 2x damage to resources, take advantage of that. They're cheap and extremely useful.

I feel like I'm wasting my time with this because he's not even going to pay attention to anything I just said. But it's worth a shot. Google and youtube how peoe get a lot of resources in raids and you'll be successful. That's all I gotta say

The loot penalty is mentioned when you click the upgrade icon of your TH...

Also, when five level four giants cost 2,000 elixir each, then they don't cost 32,000 elixir together.

You can't downgrade your townhall, I think your thropies should be between 1700-1999

The problem obviously is that you upgraded to TH8 too early. Ideally your barbs and archers are both level five. Yours are very low at 4 and 3... So with those troops I suggest you trophy drop all the way back down to silver three (800-1000 trophies) because any higher and your fellow TH8s and maxed TH7s will kill you, you do this by purposely losing a battle, drop a barb and then quit.

Once you're there Just make barbs and archers only, a few wallers if you want to hit storages, but no giants. You need to save elixir for those upgrades. Then just be patient and find an inactive base with enough elixir for you to net positive. Since you rushed your town hall it's going to be tough. Just get your barbs and archers to level five ASAP.

Also when you pressed upgrade on the town hall, there's some small print at the bottom of the box that pops up. It warns you about the loot penalty.

It's OK guys. Looks like there's no turning back and there's no way I can proceed further. My elixir level drops hugely following every battle so there's no way I can develop my village anymore. I'll give up on this game. Thanks guys for your answers.
