The Problem with Lightning Spelling Dark Elixir

Many people have come to complain about how the Lightning Spell is a very cheap/unfair way to gain dark elixir. Indeed, I have encountered many problems with lightning spells. The supporters of anti lightning spells say that it destroys strategy and creates problems with farming dark elixir, as getting dark elixir is very difficult in TH 7/8.
Opponents say that the lightning spell strategy is a strategy nonetheless, and is part of the game. Another reason is that Lightning Spelling makes getting the Barbarian King/Dark Elixir Troop Upgrades easy. They also state that there is no real solution to the problem; lightning peeps will exist until the day smartphones become archaic.
There is, however, one thing both the prop and opp can agree on: Lightning Spells is a very cheap tactic.
There have been many solutions and complaints in the forums; however I have begun to find out that the people who post ideas or say that Supercell should solve the problem write their posts in sometimes immature ways. These threads end up being a fight of cussing and flaming that really has no reason.
I believe that while lightning spells are part of the game and should remain a tactic, it should be at least discouraged or penalized. Clash of Clans is a game about strategy. Clearly, Lightning Spells can remove some amount of strategy.
My proposal is that lightning spells should only take 50% loot from storages. I have seen many other people post similar ideas as mine, but instead of being detailed, they usually trail off to how much lightning is noobish.
There are two ways Supercell can approach this "50%" proposal.
1. Make storages resist lightning spells. We already have a favorite target, it is my belief we can have the opposite. Storages can resist lightning spells, and make it so lightning spells only do 0.5x damage. This will also make the loot 0.5x, and will virtually make taking the majority of DE impossible while using lightning.
2. While more complicated, we can make it so there is no "least favorite target", however, the loot that is gained from the lightning is halved. For example, destroying a whole dark elixir storage with lightning will only take 50% of the dark elixir. Destroying all the drills and storages with Lightning Spells (although impossible) will make the other 50% impossible to obtain. It'll say there is 500 DE left, but there will be no way to obtain it.
Hopefully this proposal will create a more meaningful debate in this thread. I don't want this thread to turn into one of those "omg you don't understand lightning = part of the game" and "but you n00bs suck and only use this strategy it should be banned" thread.
