Upgrading to TH8 - Have some questions.

I usually strive for maxing out my base before even upgrading my town hall but sometimes the game starts to get stale and in those instances I make an exception. 8 days. A rather painful wait. But I got some time to get some last minutes upgrading done. The question is: What should I be ready to do once I am actually TH8? I got well over 2,000 leftover gems that I purchased some time before. I was planning on speeding up some troop upgrades with some of those, and saving up some gems for future boosting. At TH8, how should I prioritize my upgrades if I want to make my life easier as I go? I know the order of defensive buildings; splash before single-target. I am looking more at buildings in general, or even troop upgrades that I should consider doing ASAP...

Probably prioritize Lv 5. barbarians and archers if that's your style. They are quick to build and great for farming. The lv 5 archers are acceptable as donations from most mid level clans.

It all depends on what you use. If you use Barch for farming, then upgrade those first. If you use mass drag in war, then upgrade those first also. Always upgrade what you use or are planning on using. Thats rule number one.

As far as buildings go, things on the top of your list should be the clan castle and laboratory.

If you plan on using dark troops, then upgrade dark barracks, dark storage.

Something to keep in mind: Maybe but your third gold storage and third elixir storage and upgrade them asap. Reason is because lets say you have 4 million in elixir saved up with just two storages. Then somebody can come raid you and steal 280k from each storage = 560k elixir lost.
However, if you have 3 elixir storages, then when you get raided and lose two storages, you only lose 373k instead.

The best thing to focus on first is getting your de drill and upgrading it to lvl 3. after that focusing on upgrading all your troops( barbs and healers first). Get cannons to lvl 10 too because they are awesome. With defensive buildings i usually just upgrade the cheapest thing:)

The drill isn't as important as it is preconceived. I would get the drill, but only upgrade it whenever you have some spare elixir hanging around. Number one use of elixir should always be upgrading the laboratory and upgrading your troops, saving any elixir in between troop upgrades so you can upgrade another troop right away. The lab should never be running empty.

As far as dark elixir goes, you can easily accidentally farm way more dark elixir than a drill will ever give you. That is why you focus your time on troops with your elixir.

This is what I did, and I have never looked back on it and thought it was a bad decision.
Laboratory
Build new defenses and walls
Upgrade farming troops
Max drill with spare elixir I have when I upgrade a troop
At the same time as drill, get new walls and defenses equal level to rest of my old buildings
Max out splash defense.

#1. Lab (as stated above)
#2. keep Lab running constantly
#3. all walls to purple that are new (other walls should already be purple)
#4. Wizard towars, Teslas and Mortars, Air Def.
#5. Archer towers
#6. Cannons.
#7. Skull Walls, DE upgrades for BK, DE Lab troops.

I like to do #7 last because you can protect your DE better if you dont care about regular elixir. Also all your defenses will already be upgraded so also will protect DE better. Do your DE and black walls together. Agree with other posters on max upgrading your drill at some point but not at cost of lab. I also did my bombs at random intervals because they are pretty quick.
