Some ideas to keep resources balanced
So after just over a year of playing this game on and off, I have seen things come and go, controversial nerfs, and buffs that see Danny the Defender hopelessly stomped on by new troops and well I decided that maybe it was time to put through some of my own ideas that I have for this game.

So the first thing that I find myself noticing pretty much all the time is the fact that the resources stuck at our bases is pretty much always out of balance, we will spend far too much elixir on upgrading units, creating spells, and building units, but none of these ever come out of our gold stash. This is because while we are upgrading things like our defences, town halls, bombs etc etc we have nothing to spend our gold on, and when youre waiting between 5 and 7 days on average for a builder to become available, you are pretty much gaining gold that just sits in your coffers, and is then stolen from you by the inevitable attacker who sees a couple hundred thousand gold sitting there, but what does this do? It adds to his gold coffers and so the cycle continues. Not to mention that gold mines are upgraded by elixir, which means youre spending elixir, which is already at a low, to make more gold, that we have too much of.
What I propose today is a new type of unit, not just a single archer, or barbarian, but a whole new class of unit if you will, consider that we have Elixir Troops and Dark Elixir troops, and that keeps us spending those resources, which keeps them getting used, so we never have too much so that its wasted. But I propose a type of unit, a form of mercenary that costs gold to train, slightly overpriced they could keep gold in balance, and help us spend some of that couple hundred thousand or millions that just lays there for many times over a week if you arent planning your upgrades.
So basically this unit type could warrant a new kind of base, like a tavern or something. It would essentially be another Barracks that hires/trains units for gold instead of either of the elixirs. These units could instead of being upgraded by elixir, use gold because as mercenaries or something along those lines, you could buy them the new gear that they need, albeit at an inflated price.
What this brings to the game:
- In the last 4 updates we have seen no real troop additions, this would add some new troops to the game, which would keep everyone happy because not everyone currently gets to see how cool the level 8 tesla is, or the new buffs to the Heroes, because well how many of the active CofC player base currently has all of those things that are getting updated.
- The ability to spend more gold, and spend it while your builders are all currently busy, I have 4 builders and theyre pretty much hammering away 24/7.
- A new territory to explore, with new troops come new tactics, and with new tactics come new defences, yes this will stomp on Danny the Defender a bit, but that then opens doors for the game to develop new additions to towers, or new towers that can handle these new tactics.
- This is not a small development task, it would require modelling, animation, design, balancing, and actual development at the minimum. So this would give the game an avenue to expand into, and the players something to look forward to.
Problems with this idea:
- So I have read through some of the other threads with this idea or something similar and alot of people say "Mercenaries arent in the style of the game, that belongs in something like boom beach". Fair point, however this is in no way a thread saying that these units have to wield guns or utilise armour etc etc...This is a concept that I am proposing, the units, the prices, the models, the animations all of these things are not thing that I am bringing forward and saying these must be the units because I thought of it and its MY IDEA! Nope, this is a place to put those cool new ideas that we find on this forum, and say, hey we have too many Elixir troops and too many DE troops for right now, and if I add one the other will look off, well this is something to think of should the new idea fall into something that can be bought. What I mean by that is the fact that, well you cant buy a ghost or a spirit or something, but a two handed axe wielding, ground stomping warmonger...Thats something you could buy.
- This is alot of development to integrate, its alot of balancing, its alot of modelling, its alot of animating. Why is this a problem? This requires alot of development time, so it could draw away from other things like the balancing or bug fixing in a way.
So now just to recap (FOR THE TL;DR):
This is a new unit that costs another currency, it is not stored in a tavern used to defend your base like your CC does, these are units that will stand in your Army Camps, that take up Army Camp space and fight alongside your archers and barbs.
I have a couple other ideas for the scalability of the game, but when I have the energy one morning, ill make those in another thread.
