Thank you Moonsabre for the original design and Zonics for his update with a larger and more powerful core. I took it one step forward (which someone might point out is a step backwards).
- Moved heros and DE drills out of the center. Heros often act as a magnet for troops and by putting them on the sides, might draw troops away from the center. DE drills were replaced with the archer tower and cannon that were outside the walls for additional core strength.
- Moved DE storage and CC one tile back from wall so if the AQ sneaks into the second level she will have to kill cannon and x-bow before attacking the DE storage.
- Moved the tesla one tile towards AD on the sides that did not have GBs. This will hopefully help steer balloons better and also give a few more hits on giants or hogs heading to the wizard towers.

I like the small changes that you've made there. One thing I neglected to spot on the last edit was the position of the mortars (bottom two). Since they are right at the funnels, I think the dead zone is right at the funnel and wizard tower which could present a problem. In some ways, I'd prefer to switch it with the archer tower as then it would also be protected by a high HP army camp. I'm not able to test this but with the spring trap one tile in, does it get triggered prior to giants attacking the wizard tower or when it destroys the wizard tower and targets the tesla? Nice to see you guys still having some fun and improving this old design.
In regards to the original design. There's a glaring weakness in the center region of the base, so I basically swapped the farthest left Archer Tower and the farthest right Archer Tower with the two Cannons adjacent to them and then swapped the Archer Towers with the two DE drills. No point in centralizing the drills next to the storage if you empty it before you log off and having it too close to your storage means zappers will be able to hit both your storage and drill. There's no point in having your Cannons outside in the edges to prevent players from luring your CC because if a player were to lure your CC with a Giant or Hog, they can already do so from the bottom or top of the base. Also, since the Archer Tower is more centralized now, it will last longer against air troops that will prioritize with outside defenses/buildings first.
By replacing the drills with archer towers, you no longer have a ring allowing the loons/hogs to go directly into the core rather than taking a path around the ring of defences. This allows the "spammer" of loons/hogs to travel directly through the base rather than pathing around it being hit by traps. The drills are not really there to protect them but as a higher HP non-defensive structure that is not targeted by hogs/loons.
True, it does kill the ring. I usually have problems in the center against big attacks, especially because my King and Queen are always unavailable during defense due to non-stop upgrading. What would you recommend doing about the sleeping heroes? (as they serve as no benefit to me in defense)
I throw them out and replace them with gold mines as it's high HP non-defensive structure (or move traps in between to deal with wizards between the storages). To be honest, I really moved away from a 2x2 core as I found it very weak vs freeze while I was farming higher in trophies as well as a giant/wiz army to have at least either 2 xbows, (2 mortars or 2 air defences) and 1 point defence at the very least along with a centralized cc. This was just my preference farming below C2.
However, I think ring bases have become a bit too common now that most know how to attack it leading to them being much less effective.
