Yes! Pick mature Coleaders.
I recently left a clan not because I disliked the clan nor the leader. But he chose immature Coleaders who didn't donate much. They didn't even give me troops for war. Even though I was an Elder. They would get online and complain about losing a war even when they themselves weren't being a great team leader.
Also, if your clan does wars be clear about expectations. Let the clan know if there will be farming time before the next war starts. Making a weekly schedule might be a good idea. Members make a clan... so treat them well. Keep them in the know so you avoid confusion. :)
DO
-donate
- spend that elixir you're saving up on war
-let you cos, elders, and members have some freedom
-act like you know what's going on
-keep a regular schedule for war
-welcome new members
-know when to stop recruiting
-advertise your clan on global & forums
-keep your clan posted with clan messages
-friend your cos
-be PART of the clan
-show your clan how much you care
-thank your clan
-give tips
DONT
-let your brand new co-leader decide who is worthy of elder
-bribe people when you recruit
-donate to new members until they have been in clan for at least 1 hr
-just say "join" or "welcome" in the description
-DO NOT LET YOUR CLAN GET TOO BIG; my first clan I absolutely loved! Then, we got too big, and we didn't have the family aspect anymore. Our cos and elders left after our leader, myself among them, and I have been trying to find him ever since
-be afraid to ask for tips
OPTIONAL
-let your co-leaders kick
-have trophy dropping/farming, trophy pushing, and hybrid seasons
-kick the inactive members
-have a necessary amount of troops donated per season
-be "elite"
-have 2+ connected clans
-get a feeder
- make a network, based on trophies (eg. A clan for champions, one for masters and crystal, one for gold and silver, one for bronze and league-less)
- make a network based on town hall
-BE AWESOME
Good luck with your clan!

Thanks that was really helpful. But now I have another problem. My clan has almost TRIPLED in size in less than 2 weeks. I don't have a problem with this but half off them are bronze players and now high level players refuse to join. I don't want to kick them because they have done nothing wrong and they are loyal and donate. I put a limit on the trophies but it isn't helping. How do I make my clan STRONGER without kicking all the bronze members?
Option #1: Make a feeder! A separate clan wher the bronzes go. Stay as leader of your main clan or become their leader. When these bronzes get to a certain level, give them elder in the feeder or send them off to the main clan.
Option #2: forget higher level members! Be content with what you have and help these bronzes get better!eventually they'll be better than you are now!
Option #3: divide your clan into two mini clans! Some high levels and low levels in each clan. Station two trustworthy co-leaders as the leaders and alternate between the two, becoming leader where you go.
These are the options I could come up with. Good luck!

Oh. Didn't read the stronger part.
Id say dump the bronze if you want to succeed
"You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs"
Also,
"Rome wasn't built in a day"
Took 1 month for my clan to go to 22K trophies.....maybe good maybe bad?
Hope it helps
DON'T promote anyone to Co-Leader unless you trust them completely. They can do everything you can do except kick/demote you. Co-Leader can be a loaded gun in the wrong hands.
DON'T have a set list of requirements that guarantees elder/co-leader. There are some people you just never want in a position of authority, no matter how good they are at raiding, or how many wizards they donate.
DON'T be afraid to grow a pair when you need to. There will be plenty of times that people beg for elder or complain about the way you run things. Don't be afraid to assert your authority and be a leader. I always ask for input from my co-leaders and elders, but all final decisions are mine. (This doesn't mean I always get my way. If I like a certain clan shield and no one else does, I go with what most people can agree on. But it's still my choice.)
DO be FAIR. Don't play favorites, no matter how much you would like to. Give everyone a fair chance, and treat everyone with kindness, patience, and respect until they've proved they don't deserve it. You should be leader because everyone wants you to be, not because no one can do anything about it.
DO be active. Running a clan is a big responsibility. Take it seriously. If you have a strict donation quota, make sure you take the time out of your week to write down everyone's donations on reset day and kick people accordingly. Take screenshots if you have to. Be willing to put in the work, or give Leader to someone who will.
DO be patient. I inherited leadership of cellblock about 14 months ago, and the clan was in sad shape. I didn't expect things to change overnight, I just stuck with it. Now we have 45 members, a solid 30 or so of which have been with us for over 5 months or more (some are still here from the beginning). It feels like a family, and we're all growing as a clan together. It takes a lot of work, and some parts aren't all that fun, but the payoff is worth it. Some of my clanmates, I consider better friends than the people I know in real life.
DO have a focus for the clan, and make sure everyone knows it. In our case, we're a farming and social clan first, but we still like to war. We don't trophy push, and wars aren't taken THAT seriously. If you're up front about what you want the clan to become, you'll recruit like-minded people that reinforce that vision. In our case, hardcore warmongers usually find another clan to join. It's a snowball effect.
DO cultivate relationships with your clanmates. Get to know them. Sit in chat and just talk, even if you have a shield and aren't raiding. A good 50% of our loyal members are family members or close friends of other members. One guy even invited his boss. It becomes a community with time.
DON'T be too bummed when people leave. There will be times when your favorite people either stop playing or just leave. It happens. There are plenty of great potential clanmates out there. People leave, it can't be avoided. Don't worry too much about it, and move on.
DO be the kind of leader you would like to serve under. Imagine yourself as a new member of a clan. What would you like the leader to be like? When you have your answer, be that person. (This can apply to a ton of situations in life, too.) Be respectful, understanding, firm, kind, and smart. Everything else hinges on this.
