I just got TH8. Grabbed a1 week shield to accumulate some gold to get a head start on upgrades so its not maxed, or even close, but just wanted some experienced ideas. I love symmetry, so some of this stuff just kills me..... lol

Get a better base and start working on your troops and those walls..
Yeah... i get that. I'm working on grabbing resources to do the upgrades. I'm talking about from a design point of view. And I'm trying to do it with a minimum of gem purchases.

Mortars and Wizard Towers at the sides, storages all at one compartment.
Mmmmmhhh........perfect base for me to steal all the loot :)
Don't clump all your storages together in one compartment , and try to get your splash defense on the inside more.
If you are looking for a base, try the tesaract base design, worked great for
me
