The very fact that's its a "free" game makes it necessary for the game to be intentionally flawed (unfair) in design
examples:
matchmaking system that was never intended to be fair
single player farming allowed for 2 months in beta then taken away
Barracks Elixir "glitch" taken away
tournament system that gives prizes to less than 1/10 of 1% of players , and those that win them don't need them
excessive build times and costs for upgrades

I am sure there's a lot more you can come up with . But the point is , arguing about fairness is a waste of effort as it never has been, and never will be "fair"
and It can't be , as the Freemium Business Model requires that it can't be.
