Farming troops are quite simply.. troops you farm with. This usually refers to cheap, fast army compositions such as BAG, Barch, BAM or WAGG. On the flipside are the "pushing" armies - the ones that take ages to cook and cost a lot more such as GoWiWi, GoWiPe, hogs. [Note almost all armies can be used to farm, depending on what range you're at]
Also, farming armies usually shouldn't need spells to support them, which will greatly increase their efficiency. A full barch army [240] takes only around 20 minutes to produce, whereas 5 spells would take at least 2.5 hours.
