Experienced players, please share your stories about your hard-won progress!

Hi! I'm new to the game and new to the forum, so if this subject has appeared elsewhere, please point me there and pardon my poor search skills. I'm in the process of upgrading to TH6, have two builders, am farming in the Silver 3 league. Defenses/troop buildings are getting to the point of taking quite a while to upgrade, so I find myself in a catch-22 situation. On one hand, I need to be raiding other players to ensure I have resources for the next big upgrade. On the other, I'm too stingy and don't want to risk losing my hard-won resources to some raider while I'm logged out.

So these are the kinds of questions/guidelines that I hope you can share your insights on:
1) How do you balance farming vs. trophy pushing at various stages?
2) At what point do you join a clan? Does war loot count for a large part of the resources that you've used towards upgrading?
3) When's a good time to start getting the 3rd, 4th builders? (because I like farming in the Silver 3 range and don't think I can push for 1250 trophies right now)
4) Other than builders, have you experienced any limits on the growth of your town? (e.g. suddenly the gold mines aren't producing gold fast enough, or the bases that show up in match making rarely have enough resources)

If there's anything I missed please also share! Your insights will be much appreciated by newbs like me.

As soon as I get a TH I farm but towards the end when walls are left I push and see how far I can go.

2) At what point do you join a clan? Does war loot count for a large part of the resources that you've used towards upgrading?
It does, as a TH7 I mass drag and it costs about 180k a piece but I attack mainly TH9s so my war loot is higher than 400k so its basically a profit.

3) When's a good time to start getting the 3rd, 4th builders? (because I like farming in the Silver 3 range and don't think I can push for 1250 trophies right now)
3rd builder is a must at TH5, I did it back then. Just snipe up there. I got the Fourth builder a few days ago at TH7 by clearing obstacles

4) Other than builders, have you experienced any limits on the growth of your town? (e.g. suddenly the gold mines aren't producing gold fast enough, or the bases that show up in match making rarely have enough resources)
No they havent. Just change leagues.

Raid and get enough for the next upgrade and a little more so that if raided you still have enough for the Upgrade. Otherwise at Higher THs you can never upgrade anything at higher THs

I had made a similar thread when I was a TH5

1) Farming is the standard I would say, save pushing for higher town hall levels (Late 8 or higher)
2) Join a clan asap. Find a good one, with a good community of people. Don't be afraid to look around. The war loot doesn't really help too much, its more about the glory.
3) Builders are good to get asap - try to get the 450 gems if it doesn't hinder you too much.
4) No, I am super active, but I did once run out of things to upgrade and ways to spend my money once.. Ended up buying decorations.

With regards to losing your hard earnt loot.. While I was replying to this (on phone) a higher th came and stole 540k + 1.8k dark elixir off me.. It smarts but still have a good 7-8 mil left, and its only one or two raids worth he stole. You win some, you lose some. Its part of the game.

Hey dude!

A few things I would suggest (pretty general and you may already know them) include:

- Raiding bases that have full collectors (you can check whether or not they have full collectors by zooming in to a single elixir collector and observing how much elixir is inside, if it is full than the collector is full and you are in for some great loot!)
- Using balanced troops that are not too expensive
- Minimizing your use of spells, they cost a lot of money
- If you participate in Clan wars, it is vital to find the balance between the cost of your army and the return you get from the war loot. You want to be able to make profit so don't make an overly expensive army. On the other hand, making an army that consists of just tier 1 troops is also risky, because it is harder to win against players!
- Aim to get at least 4 builders. Whether you do it by saving your gems, completing achievements or just buying them. It is REALLY helpful to have 4 builders.
- Try to start on your walls ASAP. You will thank me when you are a higher level as they are an absolute PAIN.
- Don't upgrade town hall until you are pretty well upgraded! You can be at a disadvantage if you upgrade too soon because higher town halls get less loot from raids and they have to pay more gold when searching for suitable bases!

2) At what point do you join a clan? Does war loot count for a large part of the resources that you've used towards upgrading? Join whenever its possible. You need good active players in your clan. War loot? Clan war loot? If its clan war loot it shouldnt be the large part of your gold income. Thats not high enough.
3) When's a good time to start getting the 3rd, 4th builders? (because I like farming in the Silver 3 range and don't think I can push for 1250 trophies right now) As soon as you have the gems.
4) Other than builders, have you experienced any limits on the growth of your town? (e.g. suddenly the gold mines aren't producing gold fast enough, or the bases that show up in match making rarely have enough resources) Everyone experiences this but the more you go on raid and farm resources the better you will improve your town. Some players spare 1 builder idle to build walls because they farm crazy amount of gold each day.

I'm farming mostly at 400 trophies and My loot never EVER gets stollen. I'm in a clan that are constantly doing wars and so. I get some nice bonus without going high in trophies

Thanks for everyone's replies! Definitely gained some insights into how to progress and how not to get mad with raiders who take my moolah.

I am not that experienced, but I will try to answer.
1) I only farm now. Pushing = for higher THs
2) Join a clan ASAP for the CC troops. For me, war loot doesn't give much resources, especially if you're using an army comp which has a loooooooooong cooking time. My resources come from farming(my collectors and pumps are low-level because I'm active at raiding).
3) Get those if you could. More builder's huts = faster progress. I got my 3rd @ TH5, the 4th one @ TH6, then the 5th one @ TH8.
4) The long upgrade times. Lvl 5 -> 6 Hidden Tesla takes 12 days to finish.

1. I basically am always farming with Barch, but when you do it so much you gradually go up in trophies. So I guess I'm always farming and trophy pushing at the same time.

2. I made a clan with some friends literally as soon as I could afford to make the Clan Castle. The war loot isn't very good though, I'd say it makes up only the tiniest portion of my actually loot intake. If I attack the top guys in war I maybe get 500K each bonus and 1200ish dark elixir. That I can easily make in 1-2 barch attacks.

3. I got my third builder immediately. Fourth builder at TH6. Fifth builder today at TH8.

4. The only thing that really limits the growth of my base is the length of time it takes to upgrade everything now. Most upgrades now are 5+ days and I'm usually overflowing with resources by the time any building is done.

I just ate burritos and Let clayton do all my work.

I use a transformer base, which can switch between trophy and farming.

You join a clan as soon as your Clan Castle is built. War loot does in deed count for a large amount of resources especially at TH7, when you have a low town hall with high attacking power (dragon raids), at TH6 and below you should be sitting on full storages most of the time but once you hit TH7 the war loot acts as a mini resource-boost to get expensive upgrades.

I got my 1250 mark at about TH5/6, you should get it as it makes you lower overall upgrading time in the long run. If you want to get to TH8/9/10 you should TH snipe (attack farmers with their TH outside fyi) up to crystal if your dedicated.

If I farm the right trophy range I am usually fine (900-1200) lots of collector raids on premature TH6/7/8 bases. The game is pretty balanced so you shouldn't have to worry about running out of resources.
