The maths between high champs : how can it work ?

Something crossed my mind and I can't seem to figure it out. Maybe some high level clashers here can explain me :).
From what I've heard, in high (or very high) champs (3.6k+ or evern 4k+), it would take two hours; to find a match offering 15 trophies (even at 3.3k I was bored when searching for bases that offers 21+ trophies... :p).
Let's then say you two star it, GoWiWi, as champs does. You get 10 trophies.
Repeat this three times in 6 hours, you get +30 trophies. Yay \o/.

Now, personal break message, you log off.
As you're in high champs, you'll probably get offered to somebody in low champs for something like 50 trophies, right ? Same story, GoWiWi, 2 stars. You lose 33 stars.

Number of trophies earned in 6 hours = 30 - 33 = -3 trophies.
I'm probably not the best at maths, but I'm pretty sure that's not gonna be effective for long :D.

Any thoughts ? Or testimonies from high champs ?

Some can minimize the loss to a one star. Sometimes, when you are that high up you may lose 1 trophy to a way higher person.

Does it still work that high ? I mean, yeah, between 3200 and 3300 I was often attack for 1 cup but people at 3700+. I remember being attacked for one cup by 3 north 44 member in a row :D. But the more you go up, the less people can offer you that 1 cup shield, right?

This is why gemming is required beyond a certain point. I've never passed 330 myself but I've been told once you're around 3600+ you press the next button once and it can take upwards of 45 minutes for CoC to bring a base to your screen. All you see during that time is the hour glass floating. That's why people call it the clouds. You see a cloud for 45 minutes.


so when you get back to your base it's not viable to climb trophies on a daily basis without gemming your heros regen times, spell training times, and troop build time. If you raid 3 times a day you'll lose trophies. You have to go offense more than that.

It really depends on how high you're really talking about. Back in February I made the top 200 (globally) with 3841 cups, which would probably be over 4k if you account for the trophy inflation since then, so that's what I'm working off of here. From my personal experience, I would say that your 2 hours for a 15 cup base estimate is misguided. Depending on the time of day, luck, etc. it can actually be far worse than that. I once spent 8 hours (with a personal break inbetween) without seeing a single base worth more than 10, but I also had days where I could find 3 or 4 very good cup offers in a session. The variability does get frustrating at times.

Anyway, the bigger picture is that you can come out ahead or you can fall behind a little bit depending on how well you do in a session and the subsequent defense. Even above 3800 (again, higher today) I would still get the occasional lucky defense, losing only 1-3 cups, and those times are where you come out positive. However, I also had many sessions where I would make 20-40 cups (I do agree with your 30 per session estimate) only to get hit for 20-30 cups on defense as well. Basically my path to the top 200 was just to be consistent on offense getting around 30 per session and hoping for the best on defense, only really advancing much whenever I got a lucky defense.

It should also be noted that at these high cup levels you can get the occasional super high offer. I've seen a half dozen or so 50+ cup raids in normal matchmaking, and getting one of those would basically be enough to offset even a bad defensive loss, leaving the rest of the session as "profit".

If it sounds like I've painted a pretty bleak picture here, it's also partially because I used balloonion and not GoWiWi (for financial reasons). So since I wasn't 2-starring consistently there is definitely room for improvement, and I could see people in the same situation that I was in making more like 30-45 cups a session assuming they gemmed armies (otherwise the combo's advantages would be offset). Furthermore, my base was... ahem... substandard up there, so 2 star losses were the norm for me on defense.

Well, the Top 10 players dont make constant plus. They often lose more than they get during a session, thats why they all stay at a constant trophy range which slowly increases due to trophy inflation.
