The Roundhouse: A Unique TH 8 Anti-Hog base with a Practically Unlurable Clan Castle!

I'm a maxed th8 with about 30 skull walls at the core and the rest purple. Was flattened in war today in less than 1 1/2 minutes. They used 17 giants (lvl 6), 15 wizards (lvl 5), 2 healers and the rest archers. 2 rage, 2 healing. BK 10 & AQ 5 came in for cleanup after most of the damage was done. It was heartbreaking. It was the first time using this base and I had such high hopes. I'll probably give it one more shot - hopefully we will get matched up a little better next time and it'll have better results.

I just used it

I held an 813 (lvl 3 dragons lvl 5 loons) and a balloonian (lvl 5 loons lvl 3 minions) to 0 stars

Got completely flattened by 30 lvl 6 loons 3 lvl 3 dragons 1 lvl 4 dragon 10 lvl 4 minions and lvl 10 king/queen. 4 lvl 6 heal spells


Had 1 minion 2 wizards and rest archers in CC

All of my defenses are at maxed th7 lvl. I'll see how it does once I start upgrading defense.

This base is heaven for Giants - Healers.

War #2 trying this base out. 2 starred 80% vs mass lvl 3 dragons.

Ok so I really like the theory behind this base but I think the core needs some work so I'm going to move the four mortars out (b/c at th8 what are they really going to do =p to slow for hogs and to weak for heroes) and move three archer towers and the three teslas in.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

I was just getting smashed by barchers with version 4 as my regular base, and it didn't hold up well against dragons in war, so I had to stop testing it. Version 2 I think is near perfection as far as war bases go. Don't fix what ain't broke and all that.

I did not completely abandon the base. I ended up keeping the core with a slight farming modification, using the outer bits of version 2 and then closing it all off. It has been doing really well for me as my regular base. I'm sure it violates several design principles but the thing works.

I was just attacked in a war again. This time he came with 19 lvl 6 giants, 130 lvl 7 archers, 5 wizards in his CC and a lvl 6 AQ.

He got 75% but only 1 star.

Thank you for your wonderful base! I used your layout in last clan war but i was defeated easily by an TH8 enemy, he used: 5 hog lvl5 in CC, 9 dragon lvl3 and 4 hog lvl4 with 2 heal and 1 rage spell. First he release some dragon to destroy 1 side def, east or west, then release all the hogs go right in the middle and destroy 3 air defence, the dragons left do the rest. Because in the core, there are no giant bomb.

which version is that of the first base on the "Reserved for logs" topic? I seen that one all long time ago also used it but wanted it and can't seem to find it again :(

King and DE storage in western place.

The base is anti hog, so Hog riders would go in a different path then giants. Its even in the title of this post :rolleyes:

I understand that, that's why I'm using this base, but isn't there a way to make it more effective against other troops as well? Like putting the big bombs beside the tesla and the wiz?

My clan wars twice a week. I am very near maxing my th8, so it will probably be a good test for most attackers. I have been using your v2.0 method for quite a while but I found that it was week to giant heal. I am looking for a new base so i thought i may as well try this.

Hey, I just had a couple comments about the V4 beta, I've been using it for about a week now, pretty happy with it, it's much better than what I had before, but it does seem to have some flaws in the unlurable Clan Castle department. I have had several instances where players would throw down a giant to distract the guns, and then send in either wall breakers or goblins to run past and trigger the CC. I can't really think of any way to combat this, other than using smaller troops in the CC, making it less likely the'll been able to pull all of them.

Just wanted to make you aware of this issue, in case you had some ideas!

Hey there! I stumbled upon this, and I've made it my clan war base. The war starts in 12 hours. I'll post any updates here! This base looks super anti-hog, not to mention highly unpredictable, with various trap locations. The unbaitable CC is amazing, I've not seen a good layout with that before(unless you count those spread out bases).

So I've been using a modified version of this 2.1 (i only have one mortar in core along with ADs and three ATs) and the only two times I've been three starred are by th9s (one with mass dragons and 4 rage spells...not much any th8 can do against that...the queen, extra dragon and extra spell are just to much... And the other guy must have really been ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off at me and quad hounded me...again nothing a th8 (or 9 :p) can do against that).

I'll post my mods once i move on to th9. This base is spread enough that it will hold off any th8 from three starring it (try a Witch 2 wiz 1 barb 4 arxher in CC) and keep most th9s from doing it. Best against hogs (I mean like less than 20% good :p)

I'd like to say that I used this as my war base the last 2 months or so of my TH8 experience and it seemed to work pretty dang well.

I think I was 3 starred only a couple times in 30+ attacks. This was usually to lvl 3 dragons but there were also a lot of lvl 3 dragon fails that only managed 1 star.

Currently using a modified version since I am TH9 and still working on getting my X-Bows. Once they get built I will have to say farewell to this great base!

Thanks for the design! It served me well.

Just used Variation 2.0 Version 2 in a war and got 3-starred. Attacker had 10 lvl3 dragons, another lvl3 drag in his cc, 2 llvl3 HS and 1 lvl1 RS. I had 2x lvl4 and 1x lvl5 AD tower, all air mines maxed for a TH8, WT all lvl3, AT all lvl8, 2x lvl1 teslas and 1x lvl2 tesla.

He dropped all dragons on the southeast corner. After destroying a couple perimeter buildings, 8 went right to the WT and 3 went left to the camp and AT. He dropped both HS and the RS on the group to the east, after that tesla popped up. My cc popped with lvl5 wiz and archers. CC troops and AD towers took out 4 before troops and two AD were destroyed. At this point, 1 dragon was off along the southwestern edge engaging the buildings, 2 were engaging the resource storages just west of the TH, 1 was attacking the now empty CC, 1 was working along the northeastern edge, and two were attacking resource storages on the northeast side. AD took out the dragon at the CC with about 50% of CC health left. By this point, the two on the southwest resources were done and turned to the TH. AD destroyed both before TH could be destroyed, but it was close. 3 dragons on the northeast side and one on the southwest corner remaining. Defenses remaining at this point were 1x WT, 1 x tesla, 1x AD, and 1x SAM. AD and tesla took out two more before AD was destroyed and tesla was out of range. Last two destroyed TH and turned toward final buildings. SAM took one out, but tesla didn't quite get the last one.

Overall I'm still happy with this base. If my AD were more upgraded, I really think this would have been a 2-star at best, and maybe a 1-star. Gonna get on those upgrades and we'll see how I do in the next war. We war once a week usually, so I'll be back with an update after the next one.

This base looks awesome! I cannot wait to test it out on war!

I'm too lazy to read all the posts on the tread so I don't know if someone already said this but:
given the fact that every TH8 base can be 3-starred by other TH8s, this base can be easily demolished with a Dragloon strategy (the ADs are too close to each other). I find it better to have ADs more spread out. My advice is, use this base if you think the enemy is not good at attacking (because they're gonna have a hard time getting 2 stars, let alone 3), but don't expect this base to work against expert dragloonioners!!

I agree with Rogue, I tried this base in war just for kicks and the first mass dragon attack was a 3-star. I'll update this post with subsequent attacks for a another war or two, but I think my own anti-dragon base was better. It wasn't too good against high level hogs, but by the time it gets hogged, a few mass dragon attacks have failed to get 3-stars.

1. Mass Dragons - 2 heal, 1 rage, CC: hogs - 3-stars

Ive been using this layout for around 6 months and i can say that this layout is very weak vs mass drags or dragoonian. BUT still uses it because this one is only one of the few decent th8 war bases out there.

Spread out ADs make it way to easy to snipe the ADs with Hogs or Loons


The first version of this base works best (I was only three started twice, both by th9s) using it. Switch the Mortars with ATs to help ahainst hogs and HoLo.

Also I just realized that I totally attacked a forumer :/ so sorry to you :( I wasn't thinkint (I try to avoid hitting forum bases when I can)

On a side note, if you read this switch out the mortars and ATs...trust me :).

Just used this base for the first time in a war. I was attacked by a th9 with lvl 3 drags, I have lvl 5 AD, and it chewed them up. Only 1 star against me. I'm digging it. However, its up to me to revenge, I'm gonna use pewihe, he has only 1 xbow but it may be enough to beat me down. I'm a th8.

Which version works best as far as drags go? I mainly only get hit by drags. Please let me know asap! Thank u in advance

The version of the base on the front page of this thread is BEYOND POOR against an all-drag attack... It lasted precisely 95 seconds against my opposite number in its first use in war... That will therefore be its last use as well.

You have to realise that I made this base when the meta in the game was mass hogs, I just put together the v4 base because of the 4th mortar, idk if the base will work in current wars, and i don't have time to change the base to fit it into the current meta. You have to realize when you act as an elitist people expect superior results. When these results are not achieved you get negative feedback, which you have asked for. 6 month's with multiple clashers testing your base design should of provided an ample amount of time to adjust to the ever changing meta. Thanks.

Dude..... I moved on to TH9 during the summer when hogs were the meta,...... I don't know what will work for TH8s and how to counter it as of right now...

TL;DR: I'm a TH9, not a TH8. So I can't fix the base for the current meta expecting it to work

This base is offically retired, it's been a good time with this. I won't delete anything else in order to preserve my first step into the designing community, but I'n retiring this because
1) This base is SUPER unfit for today's meta in war (GoHo, GoLo, HoLo, etc) and it won't do well
2) Haters crapping on the base not knowing it was designed in the age of OP hog riders.

Dude, the original post was from a year ago....There isn't (nor should there be) a base design that EVER lasts that long. Back in its day this base was completely legit. I only got three starred one time while using it and before switching to my own designs.
