How to fix trading, without adding trading in game

I am guessing the price limit on items is an attempt to prevent lower to mid range level players from being gated from content. The problem with that is that those same people are hindered by these price limits in their advancement. Sometimes a player will facilitate this by spending diamonds on tom and selling rings on the market for coins. I doubt however this was an intended purpose.

This is however why we rarely see anything beyond wheat, corn, wool, shirts, hats, bacon, eggs, and the crafted eggs and bacon in the paper. If there were no price limits, we would see mid level players putting more cheese up. We would see more bems and sems as well. The simple fact is the max price limits do not accurately reflect the relative worth or demand. It is because of this that people look to trade items to get what they want. The high level players, having gone months with no new content, want to cap that bnb and want to do it now. Instead of sitting on that million coins thathigh level player can buy that high demand tem (paint or map).

there is no risk of pricing mid level players out of the tem market on the paper because, quick frankly, there is no tem market on the paper now. All the expansion items shouldn't be limited to getting on the paper by people that dont know any better.

i like this game because it is for the most part an economic sandbox game. There are ways to get around the limitations that make hay day not have a free market but they aren't supported by sc. Removing or adjusting price caps periodically would do it.

I really like this idea. Maybe they could do an event every so often where you can charge what you like at your rss or an event where the max prices are doubled. I bet a lot of people would be selling hard to get items as no one would buy things like bacon and eggs. People will buy these hard to find items no matter what the price. It would be a great way to spice up the rss a bit and help people generate some coins. You should post this in the ideas section.

There is an issue here - Greg and Tom will buy any items that are unsold after a day or two. If there was no max price, I could put up an egg for $1000000 and know I would be a guaranteed millionaire in two days time.

There are modifications to get around this, for example Greg & Tom only paying current max. But I haven't been able to come up with an elegant way around it and one of the great things about Hay Day is how intuitive it is.

Eliminate Greg and tom from buying off of the stand. All that creates is an artificial demand for useless items like a stack of 10 blue sweaters. When people could be spending time churning out milk for cheese, they are spending a pass in the feeders on sheep food in an attempt to keep all production running 24/7, when in reality people should be made to have to make choices. No one would be churning out wool and sweaters, paper would be cleaned up from them, etc...

Maybe Supercell could add an auction house to our farms/towns. Auctions are a big part of farming. Everything from mercantile exchanges to local livestock auctions. There could be a limit on number of items allowed to be auctioned off per day so that auctions don't completely replace the roadside shop. Players would set a minimum price, and other players would bid until the auction expires.

Seeing how price ceilings work in the context of the game is pretty interesting to me too. Just like in real life, there emerges a grey market (trading) and a black market (players selling expansion materials for real life currency).

I like the price cap. The price cap allows Lower level players to purchase expansion items and other goodies from the paper. I played this game for the first 50 levels by myself. I relied completely on the paper for everything I couldn't make for myself. If We were allowed to sell BEMs for any amount, you would have person A selling them for 1000 points, person b, would come in and buy all of them, and price them for 5000 points.. And this would continue on and on.. Lower level players couldn't afford to buy those last 10 bolts they need for upgrade

and there are great items like jewelry, cheeses, jams, candies in the paper, you have to look a lot in the paper, and look often, but I find good stuff all the time.

A little off topic, but I have noticed some farms that only sell wheat, no production buildings, and their farm name along with their nh is very systematically named. I don't support them and i will not buy their wheat

Every so often someone comes along and want to "fix the paper" to get rid of all those eggs. But what they don't understand is that not only is there good stuff hidden behind those eggs but as you level up and max out your machine slots, those eggs at whatever price are sought after. I regularly have to go to the paper and buy 30-40 eggs several times a day. In order to load up my cake, pie, sauce, sushi, sandwich and salad machines I need many more eggs than my chickens can produce. Also what you don't understand is that your version of the paper is different from my version of the paper. You only see items in your version that can be bought at your level. Until you get all the machines, you won't see what I see. My paper isn't filled with just eggs or bacon and I see lots of good stuff in mine. I just got three jars of cherry jam, some tape, a few paint buckets and some egg sushi. I just missed out on some bolts, cheese, cheesecake, lots of soy sauce and mayonnaise. That really bummed me out!

Removing the price cap on items would ruin the game for lower level players as was mentioned. They have enough trouble getting coins and pricing them out of the market would be bad on so many fronts. The people who can afford to buy these high priced items already have more money than they need. Increasing the prices would not encourage lower and mid level players to sell more cheese, because no one can keep enough dairy products to produce what the townies want and what the boats want. Not needing money doesn't encourage me to put items in the market. I only sell stuff to make room in my barn and trust me, cheese is never for sale at my shop, no matter what it costs.

The main reason lower level farmers have trouble with cash is because they attempt to level up too fast. Many of these are younger players who play the types of games that encourage you to level up fast to progress in the game. Hay day isn't that type of game. That's probably why it appeals to those of us who got their start playing solitaire and mine sweeper so many years ago. If you level up slower you always have enough money to buy each machine and it not because you can sell your stuff at an exorbitant price

Plus SC regularly doubles the cash we get from boat, truck and visitors with those weekly events. But the regular prices don't stop people from filling boats and running trucks. I really think your idea will make no change in the paper. The only thing that will do that is time. When you unlock all products you will see more items in the paper and when the current group of players finish expanding their town, more and more town expansion materials will be in the paper. I already see a lot of it in mine.

Great post Tigger...completely agree with you. I'm level 82 ...and gets lots of different produce from the Dirt. ..and often buy eggs, wheat, and anything else I run short on!

Agreed as well. Remember when free ads were 30 minutes long and the paper didn't refresh as often. I preferred the paper back then. Lots of great items hidden behind those bacon and eggs. Also you knew right away when you got a hot paper with fresh ads. :)

Perhaps it has been awhile since you have been a low level to mid level player to actually recognize the mostly uselessness of the paper. Thank you for attempting to educate me on the mechanics of the paper, but I can read, I know how it works. While it may be useful for you at level 80 something, it doesn't make sense for the player base to have to wait 80 levels for the paper to be useful. It isn't really useful now. My intent is to not even fix the paper, that is just a side effect. Yes we all get lucky and come across someone in the paper selling a bunch of long time to craft items. What do we do when we see it? Buy their entire stall out.

to those that say this would price new players out of that last expansion item, how can you also say new players run into coin problems because they want to level too fast? If they cannot afford that last bolt to upgrade, then maybe they should play a little longer. Alternatively if the price caps were adjusted, they could sell another item in higher demand and buy that last bolt.

there are certainly drawbacks to the issue of price caps vs not, however no one can possibly argue that the current price caps reflect relative demand. That is what needs to be addressed and that is what is prompting all of the 'trading'.

I tend to agree with you here, but Greg and Tom do mean that you won't be stuck with a product you're unable to sell if you set the price too high. So if they did this, they would need to let you change the price after you put something up for sale.

I think these changes would overall be in the favour of low level players. Up until level 20, I was selling all my expansion items and my first post on the forum was to request that the max price be raised so I could make more money from doing this. I think the people who would be lose out most would be the mid level players who want to start expanding, but still have limited cash. But as they can then join a neighbourhood, it may not be such an issue.

Removing the cap would make the game harder, not because it would be harder to find/afford particular items, but because you would need to think about how much to charge. Do you price it lower so it sells fast or higher for more money? I really like this idea, but that's because the complexity of the economy is what drew me into Hay Day initially. I found the forum because I was looking for advise on how to price items and it was actually really disappointing to find out the answer was 'sell everything at max'.

I also really like that this creates the possibility of different ways of playing the game. For example, I could become a premium dairy retailer. I would buy up all the dairy I could find and then sell it at super high prices in small quantities. People would know to come to my shop when they need a cream right now for their boat that's about to leave and I'm charging them for the convenience.

I guess what I'm saying is that this would be a really big change to the game and while I think I'd overall like the changes, I can see that others wouldn't. Would be really cool if they tried it out in a 'free market' event though.

Max, my two teenagers play hayday. My daughter is in the forties and my son is below level 29 because he can't do the neighborhood thing, so I know what lower level players go through. I also started a new farm after my main farm was in the seventies. My daughter only has a few friends from my group of friends and she regularly scours the paper for people to help. It is not useless to her. She is constantly finding cheese, fish and expansion materials in the paper. I keep trying to suggest more friends for her that I trust but she'd rather dig in the dirt as she calls it.

There are not many items more valuable than bolts. But it's not the price of them that makes them hard to come by. They are just rare and valuable and like any BEM, people hold on to them. So even if lower level players could sell their cheese or sugar at higher prices, they wouldn't necessarily be able to buy the BEM because it too would be more expensive. Consider this. When I started driving, gas was 34¢ a gallon. Wow huh? But the minimum wage was also low at $1.65 an hour. It cost me six dollars to drive home from college, but I still had to get that money from my folks because my pay was lower than it would be now. Changing the prices of goods or taking off the cap as you suggest would cause all things to get expensive and could get quite chaotic. The prices of goods are based on the time it takes to produce them not their relative demand as that demand changes as the game changes both for each player and for all players. Right now my daughter can make soy sauce but not sushi so soy sauce to her has no value other than to make her mom really happy. When she gets the sushi machine and unlocks mayonnaise, she will wish she still had all that soy sauce.

But hey, if it makes you happy to lobby for changing the price structure, have at it. You might be right. Feel free to say I told you so, if and when it happens. I never thought we'd get that crazy train. But I don't think anything will stop people from trading. I never use the trading threads but I trade with several friends and of course the kids and my neighbors. SC can't stop individual players from arranging sales, even if they stop the trade threads. Changing the price structures won't stop it either. People want, what they need , when they need it and money is not usually the problem.

Yes low lvls and mid lvls do have a hard time with getting enough cash! But thats kinda off the whole challenge! If i would be able to set any price at a thing it would be as a guy said before sell a bunch of eggs for a million and know i would be a guarantied millionaire!

Wheres the fun with that?! i know it would make me quit after a week if not sooner!

But guys there are ways to get around the cap BUT u gotta be patient and see it throu and dont give up! The problem is most dont have enough patience to only produce-sell for more than a day.... But it does take longer or more often...
i do it quite often to get enough cash to buy what i need and maschines! And yes it does work!!

I don't think removing price limits would really fix anything. Coins just don't matter for higher level players.

But I'm still waiting for eggs to become sought after. I have all the machines, and they are all fully expanded. But I still have so many cluckin' eggs I can't get rid of them fast enough. :p

Janilee, what? I don't have all the slots on all the machines and all 18 chickens, but I'm always short on eggs. I dunno...also, I won't buy any eggs. Has to be 10 for 50 coins (base price). I'm cheap. It is a principle thing lol since I do not have to worry about coins anymore either :D

People keep saying this, but so far, it's not my experience at all. Still have way too many eggs, which I mostly wait for the little people to buy, since I don't want to inflict them on my customers.

I never have to actually buy eggs.

I could do what some people do and stop feeding the chickens, but I always feel mean not feeding my animals. Even if they're virtual critters. Plus, I like the occasional gifts they give when you gather the eggs, wool, etc.

Its been noticeable how expensive eggs have got these past few months, there are more selling for max price than there was. I'm the same and will go for the ten for fifty but with only six chickens it's been difficult and I don't have the time to scour the DD.

i think even without a price cap there will be different limitations and issues players will have to deal with, patience is required... Just wait when you start working on the achievements and the masteries!

Wow, amazing post and I totally agree with this

The game, as set up, is essentially a socialist construct. Limited supply, huge demand, price caps and limits on production. This is meant to supply you with the challenges to fill the orders to gain the bonuses like vouchers and EMS. The only way out of this is spending diamonds, and they are one-and-done - once spent, gone forever.

I, being a supporter of capitalism, wish there were no price caps. I like the idea of a free market Hay Day. Let's see what the real value of everything is when there is no price cap and no guaranteed sale within 24 hours.

If I were Supreme Ruler of the Hay Day Universe, Greg and Tom would stop buying from everyone's RSS, price caps would not exist, and you could take things back out from your RSS and adjust the price to reflect the market.

But I am a wealthy capitalist in HD, with around 4M coins at my disposal. I remember being poor, but also remember I worked my way out of it.

Actually that isn't entirely true. There is no linear relationship between production time and coins, at max price. Take cookies and carrot cake for instance. If you want to look purely at final stage build time and max payout, cookies yield 2.03 coins/minute and carrot cake 2.17 c/m. This is with three stars on production machines and only looking at final component not sub components. If we take the 25 mins of production needed for the butter of the carrot cake the number is even lower.

at some point when the game began i have no doubt everything fell within a balanced range of price/time produced. As more items were added however that relationship is bound to have been marred. It is difficult for game programmers to truly have a global view of the game when you consider it is not always the same coding team, different managers, etc.

removing price caps will take care of the low to mid level players' need for coins for buildings and expansions. It would also eliminated the bulk of trading which, as it functions now, has a high chance of shenanigans by the unsavory.

However as as some have said, the game would change. It would be chaotic. However the game has already changed. It is to the point now where there is little to no use of even having the option of posting anything at sub max price. The paper, no matter what level of player you are, is dominated by a few items only.

I think at some pint sc needs to at the very least consider taking another pass at the pricing structure of everything. With the addition of new items demand of component items increases. Certain component items therefore have an increased opportunity cost and their price is not reflective of that.

I dont know if you have read some of my posts or not but I am the farthest from one of the gimmie now crowds you could find. I dont use my nh as a crutch and I get more fulfillment out of having everything needed to fulfill their requests. A handful of us in our nh used diamonds to finish all the town buildings as we got them, i dont think I did so with my spa....but for some reason i have outpaced everyone by about two levels. I'm not doing anything fancy, just being coordinated and smart with my visitors, I would however like to have a reaosn to post things on the paper. Now, i simply have none unless I am bouncing against my barn space limit.

Just thinking about this some more, I'm guessing the reason behind the price cap is not to protect lower level players but to limit the amount of money they can make. Leveling up before you have the coins to buy the machines is probably one of the biggest triggers for people to fork out real cash, which of course is how SC make their money.

As a question to you, would you still be a millionaire if rss prices increased? Assuming you don't change your current game play (which I know you actually would) what would happen if cost of goods in rss doubled or tripled while bot prices stayed the same?

I would be able to make valid cost/benefit decisions on what I make, hoard, and sell. It may make more sense to churn out cheese and sell it straight instead of making cheesecake, pizza, etc.

As the game stands now, it is have everything producing 100% of the time, sell at max price. That will get a bit stale as it is devoid of any real decision making.

Great catch on SC perspective. I however have only ever spent diamonds on production slots. Only buildings I rushed were early on town. The diamond price of rushing the building of production buildings on the farm is astronomical and is simply a way to pay for a lack of patience. Expanding slots is a gift that keeps giving.

I probably should have tried to be a bit clearer with what I was thinking...

At the moment the little people, trucks, boats & townies are sources of money for the hayday economy (the bank is basically printing money) while purchases of buildings, animals etc are money sinks (bank destroys the coins). The rss on the other hand can only transfer money between players (if Tom & Greg don't buy from rss), so if I buy from you, your money increases by the same amount mine decreases.

What this means is that if there are some people making money from the rss, others must be loosing money as they are buying more than they sell. And if there was no cap, which led to a general price increase, they would probably start loosing more money, possibly to the point that their losses could no longer be offset by what they make from the other sources. When people were saying that prices don't make a difference because higher level players have so much money, they're neglecting the possibility that they might no longer be so well off if the price structure changed. This is what I was trying to get at in my question. From your response, I'm assuming you currently make more money from your rss, so you would be better off under these changes, even with no changes to your production.

I was wondering who would buy more than they sell and it occurred to me that players who buy diamonds to speed up boats & trains are probably in this category. And I doubt SC is going to want to implement a change that would adversely effect diamond buyers! (Sorry - I probably just seriously reduced the chances of this being implemented. But if I'm right, I'm pretty sure they'd already know. :) )

And if there was no cap, which led to a general price increase, they would probably start loosing more money, possibly to the point that their losses could no longer be offset by what they make from the other sources. When people were saying that prices don't make a difference because higher level players have so much money, they're neglecting the possibility that they might no longer be so well off if the price structure changed. This is what I was trying to get at in my question. From your response, I'm assuming you currently make more money from your rss, so you would be better off under these changes, even with no changes to your production.

I was wondering who would buy more than they sell and it occurred to me that players who buy diamonds to speed up boats & trains are probably in this category. And I doubt SC is going to want to implement a change that would adversely effect diamond buyers! (Sorry - I probably just seriously reduced the chances of this being implemented. But if I'm right, I'm pretty sure they'd already know. :) )

No one is ever "loosing money" because those that buy more than they sell on the rss are still producing items and selling though other means. You bring up a good point about money supply and coin sinks. Fact is this game does not have enough cash sinks. So until that is fixed, no price caps would only exasperate this issue.

i actually do not sell anything on the rss because it is an utterly pointless game mechanism for me. If I put anything on besides eggs, bacon, wool, or wool products, it is gone before I can to my town and come back. Things are always posted at max price and it is simply produce, post at max, repeat. That is boring for me. A little competition on the rss would go a long way towards game content. Conversely I am not satisfied with simply trolling the rss to pick up bems and such posted by newer players that dont know any better. That almost feels like stealing. Those have got to be the most poorly priced item when you compare them to other manufactured items.

without more credit sinks i agree no price caps would up end the game since the economy has already developed as it is. I do still think sc should do a price sweep and update prices relative to demand and the newer items.

I'll weigh in. Leave the cap leave Tom leave Greg change paper back to 15 min between ads if not 30 (this will reduce amount of wheat since they post as fast as possible and don't take time to choose between advertise or not). And now for the big change..... Items not sold within 7 days either to player or npc(Tom/Greg) are pulled from the stalls and placed in a box. Items must be removed from box before selling more items. Removal can either be to the disposal for loss of product and possible coins.... Or relist and hope for luck next week. That way the players who are egging and wheating for items can continue. The stock will rotate quicker. And the excess will be in the sewers feeding into the river and clogging up the river road.

My belief is that the coins gathered from wheating are simply a bonus to the Bem sem tem Lem what ever that is actually being sought. Also if there are bot farms this will require them to adjust their algorithms and also slow production for a day... Maybe day and a half.

For example, if you currently earn $15 k a day from np but loose $8k from buying more than you sell in the rss, your net profit is $7 k. If rss prices doubled across the board, you'd be loosing $1k a day. One of the important things about how Hay Day works is that strategizing helps you progress faster, but you should should be able to progress without thinking about it too much.

I agree with the need for more coin sinks. I hope if they decide to implement a tool shed, they make you pay to upgrade it (excess tools are still stored in the barn). I think that's one thing that a lot of people would sink a lot of coins into and the high level millionaires would do it the most.

Completely agree that the team should do a review of the economy.

They don't buy all items. As an example go out and buy 500 bacon and eggs and fill your store wall to wall. Advertise 1. Come back in a week. Greg will have bought 1 maybe 2 same for Tom. They are on. Cool down. And only buy every few days so as to not have constant complaints to sc about Greg bought my bolts. I forget exactly how often they drop by it's been a while since I tested it. I suggest bacon and eggs or red smoothies for the test as normal people will eventually buy up everything else.

Your last sentence negates the result, or should negate the result of the rss doubling in price and having a negative effect on players. Players should strategize and realize maybe they can no longer afford to stockpile any crafted item that requires anything dairy or sugar. Example, I buy buttered popcorn anytime I see it, regardless of price. It is semi rarely requested and this alleviates my farm's butter intake...so to speak.

Don't really like this idea. Like said earlier, you could sell an egg for 728282$ and be rich in a second, wouldn't be fun to have no difficulties in the game!
