What To Upgrade First In Clash Of Clans

There are so many newbies out there who don't know what to upgrade first in clash of clans, so I've started this thread on what to upgrade first

1)Mortars
The reason you want to upgrade your mortars first is because they do a mass amount of damage to all tier 1 troops and most tier 2 troops, so they can just end a raid if they're put in the right place.(Put them in a triangle)

2)Wizard Towers
The same reason as the mortars except they also target air units, they should also be put in a triangle so that they cover every sector of your base. Mortars and Wizard Towers go well together because: The mortar has a long range but takes long to shoot again however the wizard tower has a short range but shoots considerably fast.

3) Air Defenses
The air defense is the only unit that will do mass damage to air units(With the exception of the wizard tower)Air Defenses are also best when in a triangle. They should be deep in your base so they can't be taken out by some archers.

4)Clan Castle
Your clan castle may well be your highest DPS building, Upgrading it means you can store more troops and therefore defend and attack better.They should be in the core of your base.

5)Archer Tower
The archer tower comes at 5th spot because it can attack both air and land troops and it has a long range, you also get a lot of them so a higher level archer tower means more protection against land and air. They should be in your first line of defense.

6) X-BOW
The X-BOW earns it's place at 6th place because it shoots extremely fast and it has a very long range. Make sure you set it to land and air because it only costs 3 tiles for the X-BOW to attack air troops as well as land.You should put your X-BOW next to either the storages or the town hall.

7)Hidden Tesla
The hidden tesla is at 7th place because it has a short range, shorter than the archer tower so thats why it isn't at 5th place. Hidden teslas attack very quickly and are very strong when at level 6 or 7 and they do double damage to P.E.K.K.AS. Make sure to put them by the town hall or storages for maximum protection.

8)Heroes
Heroes are one of your most important defenses, however I put them 8th because they are very expensive and by the time you've maxed out your heroes you could have maxed out every other defense.If you notice, pro players have to take out the heroes first, because otherwise they could just spoil the raid for them. You should prioritize your Archer Queen over your Barbarian King as she can attack air units, has a long range and does more damage.
They should be in the core of your base to stop them being lured out.

9) Inferno Towers
The Inferno towers go 9th because they don't get that much of a boost in statistics, however this does not mean unlock it last, unlock it first at town hall 10 as they are the only thing that can stop hogs. If you want you can upgrade them last.They should be in the core of your base.

10)Cannon
Cannons go 3rd to last because they only target ground troops, therefore they will do nothing to balloonions or all - dragon raids, they should be in your first line of defense.

11)Walls
Walls go 2nd to last because if you have level 9 walls and a level 1 cannon, what are you protecting? However sometimes I upgrade my walls to level 5 or 6 and carry on with my defenses.

12)Traps
Well, there's really no explanation to this, is there......

Note: Archer Towers and Hidden Teslas are interchangeable
Wizard Towers and Mortars are interchangeable

Very nice thread. I'd switch the Cc with the air defense. Air Defense level 4 is good enough until masters. CC is just so important depending on what you have in it.

I realize going without an inferno or two at th 10 can be painful, but they should be way higher on the list. Their upgrades are huge, especially on multi-target, as the move from 1-2 is a ridiculous 40 dps while going from 2-3 still gets you a 20 dps increase.

Nope 1-2 gives you an 8 damage increase and 2-3 gives you a 4 damage increase

nice list for gold upgrades.

I think for elixir upgrades it should be the following:

1a) Laboratory (only if too much elixir that builders can't follow)

1) Spell Factory

2) DE drills to MAX
(best building IMO. 3*lvl6 drills produce 7.3k/day.)

2b)Laboratory (if not done yet)

3) Army Camps

4) Lab Upgrades. All are important.
Arch, WB, Barbs, Giants should be a priority.
Rage, Healing, Lightning Spells priority 2
All Other Stuff priority 3

5) Barracks

Yes. If you multiply those numbers by 5 (hint: it's the number of targets multi-infernos have) you get my numbers, the real dps increases.

Nice, but i would interchange the dark elixir drill with the lab

umm the lab is the single most important building to upgrade when going up a th lvl and actually the only reason you really WANT to go up a new th lvl is to get higher lvl troops.

the drill is important for sure. but it cant seriously ever be put over the lab, not by a long shot.

remind me, what TH are you ? I think you'll revise your saying once you spend a little more time on CoC

im about halfway through th9. and i stand by my statement. as will i think the majority of people who play this game.


edit - and for real? if you havnt upgraded you'r lab then you cant upgrade you'r de troops, wich should have been maxed from the th before. minions are most certainly a farming priority so how can doing the drill over the lab possibly be beneficial if you cant even upgrade you'r troops you need de for first.....???

I'm a th 10 and I have never seen anyone seriously advise not to upgrade the lab immediately after your th finishes. Better troops are the best way to use elixir (aside from maybe larger camps) and really ease the transition to a new th.

Unless your talking about hog riders most people don't max out there dark elixir troops they tend to use them on their heroes

I have a maxed TH9 and 5 days left before my TH10 upgrade is done.
My lab will only be upgraded after I have enough to max my DE drill & upgrade my spell factory.

reason ? raiding ressources isn't as easy at th10 as before. (you tell me when you get here). so I don't expect to be overflowing in elixir like I have been almost every day.

Priorities before any lab upgrade:
- DE drill. those 2.4k/day adds up quickly and having strong heroes are a lot more useful than maxing my troops a few days earlier than I would have.
- spell factory. whether it's an extra spell for war, or for raid, these bring in a lot higher chance of ressources/stars.
- army camps (those 20 extra spaces can be very helpful for collector raiders & war). Granted, lvl 80 troops are better. but against a multi inferno, what would you rather ? 5 strong troops or 6 almost as strong troops ? hint: inferno only targets 5 troops.

how soon after the th10 upgrade have you started your first troop upgrade ?

this sums it up... 10% stronger troops at the cost of 40% lower loot is quite useless if you're a farmer.
and I don't know many farmers that use dark troops except minions.

how soon after the th10 upgrade have you started your first troop upgrade ?
what troop was it ?
