{VIDEOS} - A Guide to Goloonion - 2 starring with loons
Hey All,
Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to Edward from Quantum's Web and Stitch, who have helped me immensely with their content on Youtube and the forums.
So what is Goloonion?
Golems, Balloons and Minions.
I carry 2 Barbs, 5 Wall Breakers, 30 Loons, 39 Minions. A CC of 1 Golem, 2 Wall Breakers and an Archer. For Spells, I run 4 Rage and 1 Freeze.
You will find your own balance of troops. Edward from Quantum's Web at around 3800+ runs: 50 Minions, 24 Loons, 8 WB and 12 Barbs, with a Golem and wiz in the CC.
Why Goloonion?
It came to my attention that it is quite possible to get very high in trophies with loons, by just raiding 50% round the outside in a surgical fashion. What seems to be the case to me however is that when you hit 3600+ the offers of large cups are rare, and when you see one it is really, really advantageous if you can get 2 stars instead of 1.
Secondly, and more importantly, the introduction of Clan Wars has meant that getting as many stars as possible on maxed out bases is really important. No on wants to be the guy that only goes for a 50% 1 star! But, I am bored to the back teeth of GoWiPe and GoWiWi and really didn’t want to have to give up my loons in order to help out my clan.
What do I need to Goloonion?
Golems - Lvl5 or a clan that can make this for you.
Freeze - Lvl4+ Ideally.
Queen - 15+. I would say the higher the better, but 15 is the absolute minimum this will work with.
King - 5+. This is all about the queen.
Camps - 240 ideally.
I have never seen a TH9 try this strategy, so I don't know if it is possible and how it would work, but i would love someone to try it and let me know.
How Do I Goloonion?
OK, for this I am going to expect that you have a certain degree of knowledge in terms of using Balloons already, if not, please check out Stitch’s guide to pushing in Champion’s League with loons here -

Pick a Direct Path to the TH
First off, unlike going for 50% you don’t want to go right around the base. Similarly to GoWiWi and GoWiPe, you want to use your loons to create a path to the town hall for your hero’s.
Here is a screen shot of the base I attack in the Video below.

The arrow is where I want my hero’s and Golem to head once I have deployed all my loons. I want to enter in here so that I only deal with Multi Inferno, the single one will hurt me far more.
Additionally due to the location of the King, he was either going to pull my queen to the middle or I simply wasn't going to alert him until the TH was down. It turned out to be the latter.
The Lure
You want to lure the Queen and the CC with your first batch of loons. Or lure them whilst picking off an AT.
If you watch the video, you will see that I go in with around 7/8 rages loons into the right hand side comportment picking up the queen and the CC.
Depending on what is the the CC, I deal with it in a different manner.
Before you drop all your minions to take out anything it is paramount that you test the area for air bombs. These will literally ruin your entire raid if it goes off in the wrong place.
Queen - A max queen does down under 12 minions easily. I usually drop 1 loon to pull her right into the corner as minions are too fast and then drop my 12 minions on her.
Witches - These are the easiest troop to deal with and the most common in CW. Pull them out to a corner with your minions or a loon and take the witches out (Note, although their damage to the minions is minimal, it is splash, so spread them out a little). Once the witches are down, I drop a barb right in the corner to pull the skeletons they have spawned out of the centre of the base. If you don’t do this, it is a nightmare to deal with when you drop you hero’s and they try and deal with them inside the base.
Wizards - I usually pull all an all wiz CC to the corner, bunch them up with my 2 barbs and minions and then drop 2 loons on them and kill them with the splash. I don’t take a lightning spell for this, as I see it as a waste of a space in my spell factory. 1 Max lightening doesn’t deal with a pack of wiz either anyway, so I really don’t see the point.
Archers - Same as Wiz, but it only takes 1 Loon.
Drag - Lure the drag slowly to the corner and let the AQ run back to her stand. Then drop 1 Loon to distract and minions in an arc around the drag. Do not bunch your minions here. Once the loon is down, drop a barb, then another. The drag should now be history.
It doesn’t always go to plan, this is where there is no substitute for practice.
Clearing a Path
From here you want to start clearing a path so that you hero’s go where you want them to whilst simultaneously picking up %. The idea is the same as surgical looming here. If you can trade 2 loons on a lone archer tower, that gives you 7/8% go for it, you still need % to get the second star even if you drop the TH.
What % you need to be on prior to dropping your Golem and Hero's depends completely on what level hero's, particularly Queen, you have. If your queen is at 15 I would urge you to be at 45%+ before deploying her. This may mean that on occasions you cant go for the 2 star. My queen is now level 30 and I feel confident going for the TH with 35% if I know there is a few buildings in my way to help get the % up.
IMPORTANT: It is not a disaster, infact it actually helps, if you leave 1 defensive building in the middle of where you want the Golem and Hero’s to be heading.

Notice from the above picture, my WB’s front he CC and Golem are heading straight to the compartment I want because there is still a cannon in there. Once that cannon is down my Golem is going to head to the next closest defensive structure, which unfortunately is the AD on the right. I always deploy the king straight away after the Golem, but wait a little for the Queen to make 100% sure she is going to go where I want. If she goes round the outside it is a disaster.
Dealing with the King
About now, maybe sooner, the King is going to waltz into play. I don’t like the king. Depending on what level he is I deal with him in different ways. If the King targets my Queen I often wait until he is about to hit her and use her ability, by the time he picks a new target you will have half his health down and he shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Sometimes you don't even have to deal with the King at all, you can take the TH without alerting him. Often though, you alert him just as your queen is homing in on the TH, in this case freeze him and rage your queen if you haven't already. The TH will be down before the King thaws out.
If it is a max level King, I usually wait until he is close and freeze him. he can to catastrophic damage to Queen/Golem/King which is bad. It is well worth the freeze. Obviously if you can freeze him and a defensive building at the same time this is massively beneficial.
Spell usage and management.
You should be deploying heroes and CC with AT LEAST 1 rage and 1 freeze. Ideally you want to have 2 rage remaining, but it will work with 1.
If you have 2, I will rage where the WB’s are heading to make maximum use of them. The Queen makes use of this spell too as that last a lot longer than you think. Try not to drop a rage on a rage that still has 4/5 seconds left as its a massive waste.
If you only have 1 save if for the money shot. You need your queen to be raged when she is firing on the TownHall. It is worth knowing how many shots it takes for your Queen to take out the TH when under and not under rage, you can find out from this chart I made.
http://forum.supercell.net/showthrea...How-many-shots
As for the freeze, I quite often don’t use this, I use it as a get out of jail free card to get me out of trouble. Once you get into the core, if there is lots of buildings raining fire on your pretty Queen then freeze as many as you can, especially Single Target Infernos when they’re at the second stage.
Common sense and practice comes through here as much as anything.
Time
Just a quick last note on time. Time is not your friend with this strat, it is important not to rush but you have to be swift. If you have under a minute left and you haven't deployed your Golem and Hero's yet you should really be doing so soon!
Conclusion
-Pick a direct path to the TH
-Lure and deal with Queen efficiently
-Clear surrounding buildings
-Manage your spells
There is a lot of similarities to GoWiWi in this strategy, but instead of using Golems witches and wiz to create a path for hero's it is loons.
