What Is The Measure of a Good Base?

I'm a newly minted TH 8 and have an original base design, it's a farming base with an exposed Town Hall. I also am keeping my third storages for elixir and gold at lvl 1 because most TH 8 upgrades cost less than 4M and it's easier to protect 4 storages compared to 6 storages. Thus, I have 5 storages I really care about (2 Gold, 2 Elixir and 1 DE).

So, what are the metrics that I should use to evaluate my base?

Some thoughts:
--Less than 60%
--Max of two storages lost

These obviously need to be inflation-adjusted for Town Hall level. For example, a TH 10 will three star me no matter what and I assume mass hogs will. I realize that troop combination is important but I'm looking for broad strokes metrics of success. Anyway, just wanted to get a sense of what is acceptable from a loss perspective since no base is fool proof.

I assume this is a farming base so the ultimate judge is not how many percentage they got, but how many storages. For me, i would consider the dark elixir taken a fail already or 2 gold storages out of 4.

More storages are actually easier to protect loot. Each one contains less, so the attacker has to do more damage to steal the same amount of loot.

You do NOT want all of your storages in one compartment. Try and keep your gold and elixer in different compartments. Another thing, try and triangulate your Mortars and use your wizard towers to cover your storages. With Mortars in your core triangulated they will rain down terror while your enemies will still be on the first layer. With your wizard towers covering your storages your enemies will have a hard time taking out those massive storages. Another important thing to do is to core off your air defenses to defend against those BAM and Loonian attacks.

Seeing as your TH is outside, I assume you don't really care about trophies, which makes base building much easier. What I have to say is, make sure your storages are separate, if all your gold storages are on east side of base, a attack there will steal all your gold, your goal should be to make them attempt to 3 star your base for all storages (if your defenses/walls are maxed 7+ then I would build your 3rd gold storage) or make them attack all around (a "separate" attack for each storage) engaging all defenses at once (the more DPS for your defense the better). I like to put Wiz Tows in a place where they can protect a mortar, and two storages, and possibly a air defense. If you don't have any mines/collectors inside your base, then you SHOULD be able to make pockets with about 2 defenses in them. Make sure your mortars and air defense are separate so that you cover as much as possible. Triangles work best. Try and alternate your archer towers and cannons, so that minions are less effective, make sure corner defenses are archer towers. Thats all I have to say. Just remember, no base is perfect, there will always be army comps that will 3 star you, all we can do is try and make our bases as safe as we can from as many comps as we can.

Actually, any base that defeats opponent at your level is a good base. There are some basic tips to make a good base.

1. Cover each Storage with a Wizard Tower.

2. Mortar and Air Defense are placed in a triangle to cover the whole base.

3. Place Cannon and Archer Tower together as Cannon can’t target sky units.

4. Put traps in the path where the attackers will go through.

5. Spread Storages to prevent from being completely raided.

6. Place other buildings outside as you want.

7. Centralize your cc to make it hard to lure.

no, not really

Percent of loot taken from each serious attack is a good measure for a farming base. And having only 2 stores will not help you to score high.

A common & basic idea no need for copying, over confident

There's a lot of good advice in the earlier posts. For a farming base the measure of a good base is that it protects your storages. Nothing else matters. Forget about 3 star attacks, if they come they come and there's nothing you can do to stop them.

Your goal is to stop farming attacks. Assume any half decent farmer can get to 2 storages so what does he get? One third of the loot on offer. There is an absolute maximum of 300k gold and elixir at th8 so each storage lost can only cost you 100k. Most good farmers will click NEXT if that's all they can get to. This is what you want them to do.

That only leaves noobs to snipe your th and the other guys who will splatter on your walls if you plan the base well.

A base is successful if your opponent only gets 2 storages and it's really successful if he gets none.

I got the two storage idea from Ninja's Guide to Upgrading, he only does this lack of storage upgrade for TH 8. Do most people disagree with him and say go with three maxed out storages for each resource at TH 8 in the beginning and mid levels?

I could only see a reason to do this if you wanted to have a central vault. In my opinion this is a risky strategy as any serious attacker can breach a th8 vault. Most bases spread the storages in a defended inner defence layer. If you put the storages into a triangular arrangement then it's extremely difficult to get them all with common farming armies. If you use triangular spread then you want them all maxed.

I judge how good a base is by the number of decorations it has. More = OP

Three storages is better than two storages:

Let's say that they could steal 300K from you, then if it is is in 2 storages that is 150K per storage, and if it is in three that is 100K per storage. So if they only take one storage from you it is a 100K loss versus a 150K loss.
