For clan wars, i always use an all out dragon attack and 3 heal spells. However, i've been thinking of switching over to the Balloonion strategy, or at least testing it out.
I am fresh into th8 with lv4 balloons and lv1 minions. Some advice on how many of each to use, and what the basic strategy is?

Well i would say take 2 heal spells and one rage place the heals by either air deffences or wizard towers take about 25 loons and 20 minions the rest archers for archer queen or cc troops and before placing minions make sure some deffences are out from your loons so your minions don't die
I recommend you using it when your going against TH7s because it will guarantee you a 3 star..
but using loon ions as a TH8 against other TH8 and above, its not a sure 3 star, neither 2 star so my suggestion
is stick to mass drags with all 3 rage spells
Thanks for your inputs. I think ill test it out on a th7 just to see how it goes. I mostly want to switch to Ballonion b/c it is much cheaper than all out dragon attack, and i can actually profit from Clan Wars.
So i saw that a 25balloons and 20minions army comp with rest archers. Any other thoughts?
I was thinking maybe 30 minions and 28 loons? and not sure on what spells to use.
yeah, until you get lvl 5 balloons you shouldnt fight a th8. I usually bring 2 rage 1 heal, 28 balloons, 22 minions, and 16 archers. If theres a TH8 when I can rush 2 of their air defenses with rage spells I can usually 3 star them.
You need to get your balloons to lvl 5 and minions to at least lvl 3 to even be attempting this..

I am a balloonion user.....and upgrading minions from even 5 to 6 was such a great investment for me. I started my looning career with level 4 balloons and level 1 minions... and I was lucky to get a 50% .......
I just tried for the first time today in wars. I'm TH 8, and I attacked 2 middling TH8s, 6 stars. Lvl 5 balloons (I never tried with lvl 4, seemed pretty much useless), lvl 1 minions (worked fine).
~25 balloons, 30 minions, handful archers/barbs/BK for CC troops. 2 rage, 1 heal, I tried to rage to get a WT + AD when possible, healed when needed. Worked like a charm - this will be the first war in a long time (assuming we win) where I gain in elixer, as I've been doing 10 dragons recently.
Spell choice and placement is key. Heal spells to counteract air bombs, well placed rage spells that lead balloons into critical defense towers such as airdefenses.. also, make sure that the clan castle is lured and killed, that can be bad lol. You seem to have the right idea, I tend to use dragons just to be safe, but mastering balloons would make wars much more economical
Your troops are not strong enough to beat th8. Choose th7 and below as your targets.
I am certainly no expert at the balloonion strategy. I have been using it for a while when I got bored with barch. I am a fairly new TH8. I began by using level 4 balloons, level 2 minions and level 4 archers. My balloons are archers are now upgraded to level 5.
I disagree with some of the earlier posters that it isn't worth trying. I have learned how to utilize this strategy and am having some level of success with it. That said, I would suggest that you use it in multiplayer attacks first. Then you can decide if you want to use it in a clan war.
I do agree with the earlier posters that the balloons really improve once at level 5 and certainly at level 6. While mine aren't at level 6, it's hard to argue with the volume of success that I have seen in other posting and videos. I have seen a significant improvement between level 4 and level 5 balloons. Yesterday I 3 starred another TH8 with this strategy. I even took a stab at a premie TH10. I only 1 starred, but did get 74%.
There are lots of combinations and methods to try. Some are fun. Some are successful. If you don't try, you won't know if you like the strategy or not.
Level 4 balloons are fine if you can pick on weaker th 8 bases. For farming, balloons with heal spells and minions are good as I'm sure others have pointed out already. In war, dragons and balloons are a good combination.
