Farming is based on attacking weaker opponents, no? And, FYI, I am trying out 1300 based on the suggestion of my clanmates, but generally farm 1800-2100

Yes it is safer to use tier 3 troops, however that is the opposite of being cost effective. If you are not gemming you do not have the luxury to be able to refill your storage so preserving elixir is a true art, one which can be accomplished by using tier 1 troops.

I can't afford to lose a match either, and I don't. On average when farming I fail 3 attacks a day, when trophy hunting I fail 1-3 raids per week. Why is this? Because when cup hunting I choose my matches very carefully, but when farming I take risks for the fun of it.

So in short, the point I am trying to get across is that you do not need to use Tier 3 troops, or gem to b a successful trophy hunter, you just need patience, skill, and strategy.
