It is AIR, a lot less air units.
That would work if their bombs are a bit exposed. However it can be problematic if they are a bit centralised as your baits will get killed before it does the job.
Barbs are cheap, archers are cheap and gobs are cheap, and they only occupy 1 slot. 6-10 DE is not cheap as they don't come along that often.
Air bombs came out before the dark elix update. The price for them was set before minions existed. The red bombs are virtually useless against healers/dragons/balloons which is why the price was low. There is now a decent argument for valuing these more as the minion is probably the most common dark elix troop ; however, supercell is unlikely to increase the price of them in my opinion.
I think the Seeking Air Mines (mega super black bomb) are very worth their cost; they have saved me multiple times for times when my air defence went down.

Seeking air mine is worth for their cost, it's save me many time when attacker/revenger come with giants healers combo, healer died before,before she can heal any units ;), btw as farmer I shouldn't use seeking air mines and giants bombs but I love to see at replay when mass clumped archers,goblins,babs R.I.P asap by nearing my giants bomb!Gold and De I have always enough! Specialy when some people revenge or attack me and took from me 2k DE ,that isn't hurt me because when I need DE,I just raise my trophy to 1800-2000 then is easy to earn more then 10k DE per day!
If a seeking air mine saves me 50k gold or elixir, it's worth it. 600 DE isn't really that much considering how rare air attacks are at lower trophy levels where farmers tend to sit. This is especially true now that dragons do splash damage making CC archers less effective against them.
It's nice to have them to take out the rare dragon that someone pops out of a clan castle on a revenge against you.
Also, it's way different from the big bomb which gets triggered often and costs a lot of gold which is arguably more valuable than DE anyway.
well, not really that powerful, im farming at 1800-900 range at the moment and with up against high level buildings it can be difficult to overwhelm them.
yes i agree on using strong air troops as shield meat for my minions and send them by waves. i've been experimenting on dragons and minions combos for quite a while now, the only problem i see is that the minions tend to move faster than the dragons and they tend to overtake them, thus the meat shield are now the minions intead of the dragons. im starting to think that the minions are more like flying barbs than flying archers due to their short range.
I'm farming up to about 2100 myself. When it slows down to much I just drop to about 1600 and start over again. Been moving up and droping down again quite a few times by now, and it's not like you "have to" use minions to farm those ratings.
I don't use minions a lot myself, since I like to upgrade my heroes and my DE troops, but I have been attacked by them several times and I played around with them after the update, and splash defenses are the key to surving those attacks without losing at least a large chunk of your resources. Since mortars only target ground troops you'd be left with wiz towers only if not for the air bombs, and that wouldn't be enough, at least not against clever attacks.
