The Better Tank: Golem, Or Giant?

It depends on your situation. For bases that aren't maxed if you have max level giants and level one or two golems you'd be better off with the giants. For maxed bases though golems work better. If you send a golem you can have wiz and heroes behind them destroying everything relatively untouched. If you used giants they would die and the defence would target the next troop which could well be something like your archer queen or wiz which could be a disaster.

One of my gowiwi replays showing golems in action. Notice how the defence targets them while the wiz and other troops destroy everything behind em. I use three from three different points for a spread distraction on the defence. Rage the centre and break open the core with wallbreakers then send in the heroes so they go right in. Game over.

While it may be true that a golem can tank better, keep in mind that the cost of a golem is WAY WAY higher than a giant. You rarely see 750 dk elixer up for grabs at all trophy ranges except MAYBE champions. Compare that with an average elixer haul of about 50k to be stingy. Giants quickly pay for themselves, and are usually the best way to go.

Your scoring system is also completely flawed

Giants get a point for attack speed which is completely irrelevant for a tank which cancels out the fact they are affected by spring traps which is huge and is probably the single biggest reason golems are far superior.

I disagree with this. It may be true in gold but any higher and de is very common. I have finished all my de upgrades in the lab simply because I never have enough elixer and rather than gemming elixer had to keep doing all the de ones.

Lets see...lvl 3 multi inferno kills 6 giants in 6-7 seconds...lvl 3 multi inferno on golem:is something tickling me?

Golems are superior in tanking performance per housing space compared to giants.

Giants are incomparibly cheaper and quicker to train than golems.

Giants can serve as a low leveled dps troops, those th 8-9s that used full giant/healer army have been known to steamroll th 7-8s. Golems can never do this.

Golems are extremely weak against single target infernos compared to giants of the same housing space. Then again, barbarians are a lot stronger against single target infernos compared to giants with the same housing space...

Six giants can provide a short protection period for dps troops against a disco inferno. A single golem can never protect other troops from discos, they still hit 4 other troops besides the golem.

Comparing golems and giants for tanking is the same as comparing giants and barbarians for tanking IMO...

I think it depends. I would use giants for gold to mid crystal range. After that golems def. also depends on how much resource you can waste. But for me if we are talking about tanks I would go with golems

Giants, I am a farmer. Cheaper, take up much less space, shorter train time.

Well if ur poor and hate waiting... (Me) giants are better if u gem/ wait golems better from the way i see.

Golems are better than giants as tanks for 3 main reasons (most people already stated):
1. Golems attract attention for a longer time, so wizards, archers, witch, etc... can do their work without getting targeted.
2. Golems are not prone to splash damage (mortars, wizard towers, multi infernos) and also cannot be ejected with spring traps.
3. Golems do damage when they die. This helps A LOT and has saved me quite a few times.

The biggest issue for golems is the cost and time to train. If these are not issues (which are not for top level players), golems are definitely better.
