So I've managed to save up 1000 gems. Should I get the 4th builder or the barbarian king, because I don't see myself ever getting the king unless I use my gems to get dark elixer?
4th builder for sure.
Does dark elixir become easier to obtain? Because right now I only have like 50 DE saved up.
Well, what trophy range are you at? I remember at Th7 I had no trouble farming my barbarian king in gold 1.
What TH are you? That could change the answer.

BK will be easy to get later, while 4th builder won't.

It's a very simple answer, 4th builder.
If you're struggling with getting DE, read on.
Load your spell factory with full lightning spells. Drop them on an enemy with 1.4k+ DE on offer (in the storage). Profit. Rinse and repeat.
Personally I suggest getting the fourth builder. DE continues to get easier to obtain as you advance through the game. Right now I could gain 10,000 DE in a day if I wanted to, but at TH7 (I am currently TH9) It took me a week of lightning spell raiding to get my king. Don't worry the DE will come in time.

Builder king is so easy to get
I would say go for the 4th builder. it could come really handy during those long upgrades. Also for DE farming go to gold1 there is really good DE loot there.

4th Builder for sure! DE will be easier to get as you move on while saving up to 1000gems again will be way harder
4th builder FTW! You can easily farm BK. I did it in just 3 days of raiding at 1400+.
