For noobs and people who don't know what they're doing, Barbs are the way to go... They attack everything, don't die easily, and are a versatile all-around troop.
Once you know what you're doing, you'll want to strategically use them in combination with other troops like Giants, Archers, WB's, Gobs and perhaps a Healer, Dragon or Pekka.
